I was waterboarded last weekend so I would know how it feels. It's a horrible feeling and your body goes into a state of panic because you not only think you're drowning, but worse you think you're going to die. I should say that (as far as I am aware) the prisoners in Guantanamo have not had access to a fair trial. To hold them for more than a month without any sort of appeals process is an unsafe practice. It invites the possibility that an innocent person be held and (potentially) tortured.

I dont have any religious affiliation. However, when I did learn about the nature of Islam I percieved it as a mechanism for submission. There is language in the Quran that is intended to subjugate infidels.

I was in jail for a night and I could see how someone would say something (confess) just to gain some comfort (like a pillow when you are laying on a cold floor). If you want to see some more realistic videos of the waterboarding technique, search Google Video. I'm sure there are other ways this torture is being used, however, they are not documented at the current moment.
