I saw this at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. It was the best movie I saw there, and I saw some great films there. I believe this took home the Best Narrative Feature award.
Yeah, I really dug it. It had everything, humor, drama, animation, etc. I just liked the fact that it was something totally different, not only for an Asian American film, but for film in general. I've been following Asian American films for a while and to tell you the truth, I was getting a little tired of the same recurring themes in them about how hard it is being Asian, or trying to reject the model minority stereotypes, etc....
I just really like how bold and imaginative this film is, and it just so happens that the things in it are happening to Asian Americans. But even if it wasn't an AA film, it would still stand out as a wonderful achievement. The director took a lot of risks and the audience reaped the rewards.
Should I invest in some drugs before watching this?
