So is the guitarist like broken? I love this song and I've looked at like 5 versions of the solo and I think I'm beginning to hate the guy, jesus I can play it better than 4 out of 5 of his attempts, really disapointed...album version rocks though...just a shame he cant play it....KNOB!
Maybe my expectations were way too high for my favorite song to sound live? I don't care, NIN is still my amazing, the whole concert was Godly, I just wasn't too fond of the performance of this song. Hopefully my mind changes.
@Squidpus There were a couple of hiccups to be sure. The breakdown in the middle was awkward. Trent started playing the piano from "The Only Time" as he has since the With Teeth tour, but kind of stopped abruptly when he realized the piano's "voice" didn't match. The pause between the end and the downward spiral piano riff) was awkward too. And of course the dude with the flashlight at the beginning.
Having said that, I'd rather watch this than 99% of anything else on YouTube.
Yeah and once i found this i was like, hell yeah awesome break down 70's solo [which i was going to wonder how it was going to pull of the reverse sound from it] .. what a let down :'( oh wells still crazy..
Not sure where you heard that from. Reznor played most of the guitar for this album, though Adrian Belew played for Mr. Self Destruct and The Becoming. I've never read anything of Slash contributing to this album.
For some reason my comment was removed. Normally, I don't care but I want the guy in the audio to know I appreciate his fandom:
"it's my second favorite audience moment in the whole thing. I also love that he rattles off the lyrics around :50 no problem. Dude is a fan. Even if I couldn't go he at least served as a fairly good proxy for the rest of us."
Ruiner is the best song Trent Reznor ever wrote. I know he himself considered it a disappointment at the time, but like, jesus christ, so many awesome elements combined into this towering colossal rage. No other band could do it (even in industrial), no other person could do it, and what he thought was a throwaway in 1994 was way beyond what most good bands could do at their very best.
@ravenouscolonelhart I couldn't have said it better. this is a masterpiece. But I think The Becoming is his greatest musical composition. Industrial at its best. Ruiner would come in a close second.
@ravenouscolonelhart So true, he also thought the same about Last, which I find one of his best tracks, and Kinda I Want To, which got the worst from him, but I find it the best PHM track. I guess I can understand though, being an artist myself.
This song, I didn't even notice it the first time I heard it. Then all of a sudden it hits me right in the face and I love it. I love every Downward Spiral song, but this one is by far my favourite.
Amazing performance of my favorite song off of this album. Too bad it's completely ruined by the singing douchebag. I, unfortunately, Dislike :(

@FinalConflict99 you gotta read the lyrics. he's saying important stuff. I've been a fan of this band and album for 11 years and i just now got around to reading the lyrics for his rap verses on this song. lol
Honestly, how dense are these people? Some twat at the start only seems to JUST understand the fact that they are playing the whole album. Clearly they don't deserve to live...
@kolby386 i think its awesome, when you are on the live show you also hear guys screaming around you.. that makes that great atmosphere. There are other "polished" nin live videos if you dont like it. Im glad there is also one raw like this.
@starstruckstarfuck i know that nin is done playing live, it doesnt mean i cant be hopeful that trent will one day come back to playing live and play PHM
@seldomme14 Actually, he never said these were the LAST SHOWS EVER, he just said that he wont be playing live for a LONG WHILE. We can only hope its sooner than later
@chaotickittie03 Don't say never dude! Trent will be bored in a few years and make a comeback!!!! I give him 5 years before he tours again... I can only hope anyways
The guitar solo sounded so awesome! I don't know if he did the screeching sounds on purpose, but either way it made this live performance on this song AMAZING!
Sounds like straight up distortion. He does turn on a pedal a little bit into it, which I guess is a overdrive pedal to add a little more ooomph to the sound. I know he has a Boss BD-2, that could be what he turns on.

OUch the bridge of this song is so awesome! Each instrument is perfect, loud drum, great and aggressive bass line, keyboard are beautifull, Finck is the best guitar player NIN had and Trent... as usual GOD!
Thanks to the thisoneisonus project, i can't stop watching this show and the gift... So impatient for vegas :D
@ynattirbelise: personally I hated that they played March of the Pigs like the album version, but at the same time I hated how they played "The Only Time" version of Closer rather than something more like the album version.
nice one man, i neverf got too close to him on the 6 or so times i saw them, ruiner still gives me the bumps to this day, never get sick of it. What a great live recording...same with piggy..
@NaminatoR1254 It's great listening to these guys on every video from this performance. None of them can believe that they're hearing the entire Downward Spiral haha.
@NaminatoR1254 It's my second favorite audience moment in the whole thing. I also love that he rattles off the lyrics around :50 no problem. Dude is a fan. Even if I couldn't go he at least served as a fairly good proxy for the rest of us.

@lendude1 Definitely. Finck is sick! I was so happy when I heard he was coming back for lights in the sky. I strongly believe that the sound/edge/style he brings as a guitarist suits Nine Inch Nails best.
I remember when my parents were going through their divorce, feeling isolated in school and watching everything fall apart around me.. this song was the only thing keeping me in step. There is only a handful of songs in my life that when I listen to is like picking a old scab, and this is one of them
@youknowwhoyouare8 You wanted it, you have it. Dude, I have to use three accounts to handdown your comment. You´re welcome. People, now handdown me, please. We're the wretched ones. Life is pain.
My neck is starting to hurt! But i dont give a fuck! feels like being there, and the beer is cheaper at my house! Thank you so much! This is fucking great!
cool, but this asshole singin like a girlie fan pisses me off and kills everything.this is not the jonas brothers and i don't fucking understand why you want to sing along, do you want to hear yourself or nine inch nails when you go to their shows?
well if you get really excited you can't help but to sing a long, its kind of natural, you don't think about it, unless of course you go to a show strictly to hear the band, not to live the concert, get my point? I'm not saying that it's not wrong. It sucks! I'm just saying.
1st you can't really help but sing along, the crowd just does it
2nd It's a form of respect to the band. It's such a cool feeling when the crowd sings along. Some bands use this to do pauses in the songs where just the crowd sings and it just sounds epic.
So is the guitarist like broken? I love this song and I've looked at like 5 versions of the solo and I think I'm beginning to hate the guy, jesus I can play it better than 4 out of 5 of his attempts, really disapointed...album version rocks though...just a shame he cant play it....KNOB!

cool, but this asshole singin like a girlie fan pisses me off and kills everything.this is not the jonas brothers and i don't fucking understand why you want to sing along, do you want to hear yourself or nine inch nails when you go to their shows?

well if you get really excited you can't help but to sing a long, its kind of natural, you don't think about it, unless of course you go to a show strictly to hear the band, not to live the concert, get my point? I'm not saying that it's not wrong. It sucks! I'm just saying.

1st you can't really help but sing along, the crowd just does it
2nd It's a form of respect to the band. It's such a cool feeling when the crowd sings along. Some bands use this to do pauses in the songs where just the crowd sings and it just sounds epic.
