  • 30 years old to enjoy this? I'm 17 and I would freakin' love playing this xD

  • wow I remember that game console. how did you find one that still worked, darryl? what do you think of the atari 2600? did you ever have one of those too? those games give me nostalgia. they were so much easier to play too.

  • @GlobalDating I picked this up on eBay for about 50 pounds. Yes, I owned one of the old Woodgrain Atari 2600's back in the day. I keep my eye out for such things at car-boot sales.

  • does Moss know you stole his Vectrex

  • Nice video ! :D

About what you said around 2:55, shall I let you know that I am 18 and I loooove retro-gaming ! Atari 2600, Vectrex, ColecoVision, Commodore 64, you name it ! Due to rarity of hardware in my region (It is really hard to find stuff like that around here) most of my gaming is done via emulation, except for Commodore 64. And although I like new games, if I had to choose between modern gaming and retro gaming, I'd chose retro gaming all the way.

  • im almost 32, share the same thought and bought one today

  • Wow! I remember looking at this console in a toyshop too. I always wanted to own one, but I'm going to stick with my Xbox for now. Excellent video.

  • You are awesome!

  • *THE BLUEPRINT :

    Vectrex

    +

    Tron

    +

    The Last Star Fighter

    +

    AtariVox II (Voice Synthesizer)

    =

    Incredible Gaming Experience!

  • I don't think anybody needs to be old to remember or like the Vectrex. I had one when I was 5 back in 1991. It was my first game system, even before my NES shortly thereafter and I still played toe Vectrex, slightly a bit more than the NES.

Then came my SNES in Christmas '93 and I kinda abandoned the Vectrex after that.. I feel bad now, I should pick it up from my uncle's place. I'd be amazed if it still worked after 17 years.

  • or old enough 2 remember star trek II the arcade game ~

    vector graphics 4 ever ~ geometry wars any1 :

  • 2:22 GOT YOU HUMANOID!

  • looks like a tv ~ & the vectrex looks prettier :-)

  • dam thats fkin sick i want one!! :D

  • you dont neet to be 30 to like this

i'm 18 this, thing was made 10 years before my birth and i really really appreciate it i wish i had one,

i still have all my old consoles and i'm a huge fan of vectors and 2D and low poly 3D games

    thanks for the review ;)

  • Our Retro Computer Group is looking for one of these for our displays. If you can help out please contact us. We are in Australia so a UK one would also suit. TNX!. Ken, Sj of the RCC. h t t p: // shazam.zapto.org

  • good video. informative and nostalgic!

  • I still have my Vectrex. I bought it at Maas Brothers in Tampa.

  • they should have made vector man on the vectrex.

  • Great vid! Playing my Vectrex today in fact. Perhaps you're right that you have to have been around in the golden age to appreciate it...

  • Ha,Ha that's CRAZY people don't know anything about that VECTREX SYSTEM. I used to get busy on MINE STORM all the time. You are correct it was a awsome time for me to grow up in the mist of the gaming industry at that time.

  • How much would this system be worth today? I have one in my basement that I still play from time to time... when I'm not playing MW2 on PS3 lol

  • You should be able to fetch a hundred bucks for it on ebay.

  • @Model1887PRO1 I(f you have the box and a minth condition and few game with light pen i saw 1 on ebay like that and it was sold 2,459$

  • @Model1887PRO1

I've seen the vectrex system (in good condition with a good controller that self-centers) go on ebay for at least $200 bucks.....If you also had a vectrex 3d imager hiding in your basement, those go for about $1000 dollars....

  • didn't nintendo's virtual boy use vector graphics in some of their games?

  • Good review. My old vectrex literally died for ever about 4/5 hours ago. She is finished. AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great system ... they are fun ..

  • Lol 1:14, 2:02, 4:04. Old school games are hard.

  • Search Space Wars cinematronics. That's the one I remember from the arcades. Came out late 70's. There was real skill involved -- like a sport.

  • You left out spacewar!

  • i have berserk too for the atari 2600

  • I still have my Vectrex.

  • absolutely bro. I'm glad I grew up in that period. Bezerk was awesome. Battlezone=sweet.

  • yep vectrex is one of the top 5 most underrated masterpieces of videogame history

  • cool review. got mine for $5 at a garage sale and it came with 10 or so games some with the manuals and overlays and 2 NES controllers for some reason.

I tell all who are watching, if you find olkd video games such as this one for cheap, buy them!! you may turn a profit!

    ~Bungee

  • What an absolute bargain. I too keep my eye out for old electronic games at garage sales (or car boot sales, as we in Ireland do). Gems like this are rare, though.

  • @bungmasterteddybear i jst got one at a store 4 99$ yesterday

  • @bungmasterteddybear

    2 Nes conrollers?

    10 games

    1 vectrex (is it working?)

    All that for 5 bucks?

Did you buy it from a noob?

  • @ArsonistInUrFirewall He was just a guy with stuff in his house that he had no use for. and YES! the vectrex works pretty well :)

sure i guess he was kinda noob ;)

    ~Andy

  • I miss that console. I would beat my brother at Frogger and Pac_Man every time. That and dancing are , to this day, the only two things he'll admit that I'm better than him at doing.

  • We had Atari until my brother set it on fire.

    My son's father had Intelevision.

My son has a Playstation 2 and a Super Nintindo

  • My Atari worked until I washed it with a wet cloth. I was ten, I think. :-)

  • Yeah, I agree. It definitely was a privilege to grow up during the electronic age. I began with Mattel Football in 1977 and have been hooked ever since.

  • Porra,muito legal,nem conhecia esse videogame! joguei muito Atari,Master System,Mega Drive(Genesis) mas este eu desconhecia....muito bacana! xD

  • If you could get three of those vector displays (each with a different color filter) and project them onto a wall, I'd bet that would work.

Imagine, no pixels, and color graphics, maybe even 3D as well.

  • Hey, I wasn't born until 1988 and I still miss my old vectrex (we got it at a yard sale).

  • I'm selling vectrex!! that still turns on but the screen displays a diaganial line which still has moving graphics but its all squashed.

This happend because I was playing hyperchase and the game wabbled in the socket causing it the malfunction.

Still turns on and displays graphics also selling to games with it Scramble and Hyperchase

    ]msg me[

  • i hav the origanal atari console wiv a bucket load of games like tennis tron, space invaders, battle filed ect. and the reason it is so kool is that these things are so old

  • Does anyone remember the M&B chess set, where the chess pieces moved on their own? You could actually watch it playing against itself. I don't mean a computer game, we're talking a real, full-size chess board.

  • LOL you smug bastard....looking like the cat that got the cream at the end there.

  • Ah well. I would rather be called a smug bastard than a big child. :-)

  • Oh, but you're a big child as well!

  • stop pickin a fight

  • Who are you telling to stop picking a fight?

  • ummm considering it sends you a message when i reply to you... im obviously telling you to stop picking a fight... lol

  • Are you talking to me, or chewing on a brick? Because either way, one loses one's f*cking teeth.

  • i dont remember the system and im 32, but am about to get me one on ebay. a movement on a vector monitor is very fluent.

  • I'm 25, and didn't start playing video games until I was about 8 years old, but I can see why people like this system, I want one.

  • i just got 6 games i got berzerk i LOVE IT

  • OMG, it's an oscilloscope, a friend said me that a console was using it... Oh My Goood!!! Musics are GREAT, but I think that I'm traumatized for all my life...

I discovered the Video-Games with a Game-Boy, not a Game-Boy Color, the one, the only, GAME-BOY! I can remember this day, perverted by my uncle... It was the greatest day of my life, then I experienced the Zelda-syndrom, that makes you love the FIRST game, with black and green graphism, I'm still playing it with my Gizmondo and PPC :-\

  • If you're still getting MineStorm when the Berzerk cartridge is insterted, it might be worth carefully opening the cartridge (in a static free environment) and cleaning the contacts with spirit.

That happenede to my Vetrex and it turn out to just be dirty cartridge contacts.

  • if anybody want's a good emu of this puppy try the ParaJVE emulator it even has built in over-layes verry cool and works great on win-xp

  • how mutch did you pay for it on ebay?

I know like many of our old systems they be worth a bit and is verry cool.

I never had one as a kid butt remember seeing one at a toy store was exspencive even in the

    80's

  • About 50 pounds.

  • Man, i had this also. My dad got it for me at Toys R Us when I was a kid. I am 31 years old now and still remember that console like it was yesterday. My favorite game was Rip-Off.

  • I had this. I only played that built in game. Wonder if i can buy it again? The memories!!

  • Cool

  • Congratulations, man! You own it finally :)

  • wow this is old. where did u find that?

  • Picked it up on eBay. They show up regularly. Might do another Vectrex video, as I've bought some interesting things for it since making this vid.

  • Many thanks:) look forward to more vids:)

  • don't forget red baron. also ilda lasers use vector to draw pictures. and currently flash graphics are natively vector to make scaling from one screen res to another a non issue. you're right though, vector games should be played on a vector display

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • I actually have a Vectrex for sale, if anyone is interrested... I don't have any game exept for the built-in game; Mine Storm...

  • The little vectrex logo music reminds me of my childhood home :)

  • Always nice to finally own the machine of your childhood dreams

    Decent video this

There was something magical about the gaming industry back then and it's more than that we were just kids i think.I too count myself very lucky that we witnessed it all, as evolution of this kind isn't really something you can repeat any more

  • nice-looking system. i had an intellivision back then and would have liked to have the vectrex too as well as colecovision.

  • Great review. Good background information, informative, and easy to watch. Nicely done.

  • Liam Neeson givin the vectrex lowdown

  • lol. Liam Neeson's twin cousin.

  • i want one

  • Man, Berzerk used to be one of my favorite games. I never played the Vectrex version. It looks interesting.

  • Damn. I remember playing that once at a friend's friend's house. It was the coolest thing in the world at the time. I also wanted to point out that if you had a TRS-80 (Trash 80, haha) Color Computer, you would also have experienced a true all directional joystick. It wasn't self centering, though, which kind of sucked.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • This was fun. I haven't seen one of those in years and years. Never bothered using those inserts. I have no idea whatever happened to the one I had when I was a kid...

  • if i had a choice between those cheap plug and play joy sticks and this, I'd chose the vectrex. So much better. And so much more memorable.

  • great video! thanks for the demo :D

  • this was the first system i ever played

  • I finally got my own! I used to play it at a friends house one time when I was a child and I was amazed!

    BTW: I'm 22 but I play VG since I can remember. ;D

  • man my brother had one i used to play blitz and cleansweep

  • Darryl-

Mine came in the mail today! Great video man.

Stop by and check some of my classic game clips. Cheers-

  • Have fun. I should have a new Vectrex video online soon, showcasing some unusual stuff about the console that you won't see on other videos, so be sure and check back.

  • bluescreen (of death) as overlay ;-)

  • i had one from the beginning and i sold mine in 1986

  • COOL

  • In the name of the father .....thats a cool system ive got one but have a hard time finding games

  • eBay is your best bet for games. Also, consider buying the VecFlash cartridge from Richard Hutchinson (Google it for more info). That way you can download the game roms online and tranfer them to the cartridge.

  • thats very cool

  • Thanks. Should be another book along in a year or two. Got some ideas for a direct sequel to Chion.

  • cool.

p.s. just finished reading chion! it rox my sox! LOL nice job, will there be another masterpiece?

  • my controller does not look like urs!

  • I think the US controller had different decals. But as for shape & size, this is certainly the only Vectrex controller I've ever seen.

  • i like urs better

  • i like urs

  • I'm 34 and I played the Vectrex with my oldest brother.

    It was great !

  • can you explain vecter graphics?

    i had a atari 2600

    i am 35

  • Unlike a normal TV the 'laser' doesn't draw a complete picture from the top on the screen but can move freely.

It can only draw lines but those lines are ultra sharp white lines.

If you're used to the blocky pixel grafx of older consoles it looks amazing!

Only the missing colors are a bit poor.

You got to see it to fully understand how sharp the grafx are.

  • I just got one recently too. Very underrated machine!

  • I was under the impression that any pixels were done using vectors, due to the way the monitor works.

  • Actually vector is the *default* graphic, it can do pixels (take a closer look at the opening screen), you've obviously never played Y. A. S. I., it looks almost exactly like the original Space Invaders!

I've heard a lot of stories of kids being enamored (sp?) over this instead of a PS2, my own 11 year old nephew likes it :)

Funny speed-up and pointing out the overlay not lining up, and nice trip back in regards to some vector arcade games.
