wow I remember that game console. how did you find one that still worked, darryl? what do you think of the atari 2600? did you ever have one of those too? those games give me nostalgia. they were so much easier to play too.
@GlobalDating I picked this up on eBay for about 50 pounds. Yes, I owned one of the old Woodgrain Atari 2600's back in the day. I keep my eye out for such things at car-boot sales.
About what you said around 2:55, shall I let you know that I am 18 and I loooove retro-gaming ! Atari 2600, Vectrex, ColecoVision, Commodore 64, you name it ! Due to rarity of hardware in my region (It is really hard to find stuff like that around here) most of my gaming is done via emulation, except for Commodore 64. And although I like new games, if I had to choose between modern gaming and retro gaming, I'd chose retro gaming all the way.
I don't think anybody needs to be old to remember or like the Vectrex. I had one when I was 5 back in 1991. It was my first game system, even before my NES shortly thereafter and I still played toe Vectrex, slightly a bit more than the NES.
Then came my SNES in Christmas '93 and I kinda abandoned the Vectrex after that.. I feel bad now, I should pick it up from my uncle's place. I'd be amazed if it still worked after 17 years.
Our Retro Computer Group is looking for one of these for our displays. If you can help out please contact us. We are in Australia so a UK one would also suit. TNX!. Ken, Sj of the RCC. h t t p: // shazam.zapto.org
Ha,Ha that's CRAZY people don't know anything about that VECTREX SYSTEM. I used to get busy on MINE STORM all the time. You are correct it was a awsome time for me to grow up in the mist of the gaming industry at that time.
I've seen the vectrex system (in good condition with a good controller that self-centers) go on ebay for at least $200 bucks.....If you also had a vectrex 3d imager hiding in your basement, those go for about $1000 dollars....
Good review. My old vectrex literally died for ever about 4/5 hours ago. She is finished. AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cool review. got mine for $5 at a garage sale and it came with 10 or so games some with the manuals and overlays and 2 NES controllers for some reason.
I tell all who are watching, if you find olkd video games such as this one for cheap, buy them!! you may turn a profit!
What an absolute bargain. I too keep my eye out for old electronic games at garage sales (or car boot sales, as we in Ireland do). Gems like this are rare, though.
I miss that console. I would beat my brother at Frogger and Pac_Man every time. That and dancing are , to this day, the only two things he'll admit that I'm better than him at doing.
Yeah, I agree. It definitely was a privilege to grow up during the electronic age. I began with Mattel Football in 1977 and have been hooked ever since.
i hav the origanal atari console wiv a bucket load of games like tennis tron, space invaders, battle filed ect. and the reason it is so kool is that these things are so old
Does anyone remember the M&B chess set, where the chess pieces moved on their own? You could actually watch it playing against itself. I don't mean a computer game, we're talking a real, full-size chess board.
OMG, it's an oscilloscope, a friend said me that a console was using it... Oh My Goood!!! Musics are GREAT, but I think that I'm traumatized for all my life...
I discovered the Video-Games with a Game-Boy, not a Game-Boy Color, the one, the only, GAME-BOY! I can remember this day, perverted by my uncle... It was the greatest day of my life, then I experienced the Zelda-syndrom, that makes you love the FIRST game, with black and green graphism, I'm still playing it with my Gizmondo and PPC :-\
If you're still getting MineStorm when the Berzerk cartridge is insterted, it might be worth carefully opening the cartridge (in a static free environment) and cleaning the contacts with spirit.
That happenede to my Vetrex and it turn out to just be dirty cartridge contacts.
Man, i had this also. My dad got it for me at Toys R Us when I was a kid. I am 31 years old now and still remember that console like it was yesterday. My favorite game was Rip-Off.
don't forget red baron. also ilda lasers use vector to draw pictures. and currently flash graphics are natively vector to make scaling from one screen res to another a non issue. you're right though, vector games should be played on a vector display
Always nice to finally own the machine of your childhood dreams
Decent video this
There was something magical about the gaming industry back then and it's more than that we were just kids i think.I too count myself very lucky that we witnessed it all, as evolution of this kind isn't really something you can repeat any more
Damn. I remember playing that once at a friend's friend's house. It was the coolest thing in the world at the time. I also wanted to point out that if you had a TRS-80 (Trash 80, haha) Color Computer, you would also have experienced a true all directional joystick. It wasn't self centering, though, which kind of sucked.
This was fun. I haven't seen one of those in years and years. Never bothered using those inserts. I have no idea whatever happened to the one I had when I was a kid...
Have fun. I should have a new Vectrex video online soon, showcasing some unusual stuff about the console that you won't see on other videos, so be sure and check back.
eBay is your best bet for games. Also, consider buying the VecFlash cartridge from Richard Hutchinson (Google it for more info). That way you can download the game roms online and tranfer them to the cartridge.
Actually vector is the *default* graphic, it can do pixels (take a closer look at the opening screen), you've obviously never played Y. A. S. I., it looks almost exactly like the original Space Invaders!
I've heard a lot of stories of kids being enamored (sp?) over this instead of a PS2, my own 11 year old nephew likes it :)
Funny speed-up and pointing out the overlay not lining up, and nice trip back in regards to some vector arcade games.
30 years old to enjoy this? I'm 17 and I would freakin' love playing this xD

If you could get three of those vector displays (each with a different color filter) and project them onto a wall, I'd bet that would work.
Imagine, no pixels, and color graphics, maybe even 3D as well.

Unlike a normal TV the 'laser' doesn't draw a complete picture from the top on the screen but can move freely.
It can only draw lines but those lines are ultra sharp white lines.
If you're used to the blocky pixel grafx of older consoles it looks amazing!
Only the missing colors are a bit poor.
You got to see it to fully understand how sharp the grafx are.
