  • its gm itll last forever

  • GM isn't lost, they're just paid off.

  • if you could replace the batteries with lithium ions, would you?

  • can you add a solar system on this for charging on the daytime while on the road?

  • that is so useless

  • dude, my go cart has 220 AH, I get fiftey miles to the charge. and it's faster than that truck ill tell you!

  • @vonzace Dude the truck is like 4,000 lbs and runs on the interstate.

  • can you put an air conditioning system or heater in a electric cars

  • @ProtocolsMaster Why not all you need is a drive belt you do the Math,s

  • If you actually converted this, you sir are an idiot. Chevy actually made an S10 EV in 97'.

Which seeing as this is also a 97' makes me second-guess.

  • i wonder how the power breaks work being that there is no vacum system in this truck

  • @kennymbell1 5:29 Vacuum pump.

  • Comment removed

  • @kennymbell1 They cleary stated that everyting is intact. It even has an electric vacuum pump. In the beginning you can actually hear it pump when they pop the hood.

  • Lithium Batteries will take up a LOT less space with more output, longer range and more cycles,

  • @cdickenson64 exactly, but lets do away with the simple lithium ion and go with safer, the lithium iron phosphate, or also one that is promising is the Molten salt/Zebra battery. The Subaru also uses a special battery technology called lithium vanadium and it says on the cars nameplate, it travels 200km and charges in 15 minutes.

  • @cdickenson64 except if the lithium batteries happen to run out entirely it shaves time off their life. so everytim the car dies, it would die quicker the next time.

  • @tjh1127 the controller would probably have a battery eliminator circuit like and RC receiver has, which will cut power from the battery before it reaches critical state of discharge.

  • Where can I get my 1994 S10 converted? I am an electrical dummy so I need to hire it done.

  • A lightweight removable cover would reduce wind drag improving mileage (range in this case), I think estimates for gasoline vehicles are 10% improvement. You could use a rope system, but experience shows that those trucks tend to develop loose rear fenders.

  • So if I told you that I had something that could replace the batteries and the charging what would that be worth to you?

  • wow I might buy that for my son.

  • Dude you need an alignment

  • that is a nice set up what its missing is a custom bed cover holding some solar pannels to keep it charged and a turbine with a generator to make use of the wind at hi speeds keep up the good work that is the future

  • @VelezJ20 putting a wind power generator on the truck for "high speeds" wont produce the amount of electricity it takes to drive the extra power needed to turn the wind generator....

  • I'd prefer to drop a 454 big block into that dime

  • @texican420 but how many times has that been seen and at some point we will need to switch off gas, i love gas engines but at 16 i think in my lifetime if it doesnt stop we will run out. i think if there were more s10s like this those big blocks would be enjoyed much longer.

  • What about the air conditioner? Is there a way to keep an electric car cool on a sizzling hot summer?

  • @Huatamote There is a way. Most common method on a conversion truck as shown here is to run the AC compressor off the front shaft of the electric motor. However, usually this is not done, because regular battery technology today is not developed enough to power the truck AND AC AND everything else, and provide distance between charges as well. Someday, perhaps when lithium-ion battery technology comes down in price it will be more cost-effective to be able to have AC and range all in one.

  • I can't find a kit to tilt the truck bed on my 1/2 tong 79 toyota. Can you tell me where I can buy the kit??

  • @huntingwithed home depot. one pair of hinges. The ones for big fences work. Then go to the car parts store and get a pair of hydraulic cylinders, the type like you would use to hold up a hood or tailgate, but the largest ones you can stand... put it together and you have your "kit"

  • I like the fact they are using a transmission instead of a direct coupler

  • @quantummechanics2 Yes, exactly. Transmissions multiply torque, torque is what does work. So many people these days have this notion that you don't *want* a transmission in an EV simply because it's *possible*. You get more torque to the wheels with a transmission than without...

  • Never mind GM; they're lost.

  • @TimKGrimes Yes you are write....look at this link on their web site the same story as with the EV 1 back in 1995.

"GM Exec: Extended Range Electric Trucks Not Possible With Current Battery Technology"

    gm-volt com

  • awesome truck

  • Rolling vehicles create air distriburance we have windmills to make electricity, is their not some way to incorporate this principal to generate electricity to charge the batteries to get more miles between charges?

  • @Mrpl778 welcome to physics 101... first lesson, no. there's no such thing as perpetual motion.

  • @lilbrudder32 you sound very full of yourself. history 101, almost every major scientific achievement and invention prior to today was thought to be impossible. Soon you will be calling witch-craft. Neanderthal.

  • @sirHOAX Ok, show me how it works, smart guy... Tell me how causing more drag somehow gives you more energy than it took to move it? Hundreds of years this law of physics has existed... why hasn't anyone been able to do it? You can break the law, but you can't break the laws of physics.

  • @lilbrudder32 like i said, Neanderthal.

  • @sirHOAX ok, troll... go make it happen, prove me wrong. you'll be rich beyond your wildest dreams, and then instead of trolling on facebook, you could maybe rent a bunch of billboards to call me whatever you want... or, since you'll have zero-point energy or some other super nifty overunity source, you could just write it in the night sky or something.

  • @lilbrudder32 evolve already.

  • how much money did that cost?

  • I appreciate the attention to perfection and safety. I've got a Dastun 620 w/20 6v flooded lead acid batteries...six under the hood and 14 under the bed. "traction pack" indeed! Imagine a Datsun that actually will have traction on slick winter roads. Everyone else has sandbags in the back...we've got the power packs. For me, the extra weight adds to the great inertia and low center of gravity that contributes to a great ride. And there's nothing glacial about the way a well-built EV accelerates.

  • Good news you will get new Nanotech battery A123 systems more powerful than Lithium-ion Powered ! The Nanotech battery quick charged in 5 mins get full , you will get about 450 miles range

  • @apache4541 bullshit. To get 450 miles range in a truck like this, it means you'd need a pack with 180kWh usable capacity. To reach a full recharge in 5 minutes, you'd need about 2000 amps of 460v three-phase power... Not to mention, the batteries wouldn't take that much current that quickly.

  • i drive at least 100 miles a day,need more batteries.

  • This is a great video, very informative, please post updates. GM TAKE NOTES BEFORE YOU GO BANKRUPT! If you start making these for under $20, they will sell. Look at how many prius' have sold. It is amazing this guy can build one of these, but the engineers at GM cant. They need to quit wasting money on dumb trucks like colorado, hhr, and get back to the s-10 and make it electric! The japanese are way ahead of us because they build what people want.

  • Good point--cars and even SUV's like the RAV4 EV and Ford's Escape, but no all-electric pickup trucks. I'm assuming the majority of PU's are rural ranchers, etc. that want power and range, but hey--lots of urban contactors want something they can lay a sheet of plywood flat down on the bed running a few miles from the hardware store to the jobsite inthe neighborhood.

  • That is one kool golf cart powered s-10

  • @wazntme38 no golf part power there... the motor in this truck is MASSIVELY larger than a golf cart.

  • i wanna ask the truck look crazy and that is the future but how is the heater in that truck thx :D

  • electric makes heat right now!

  • i want that, sheeit murder that thing out and your just a shadow in the night

  • If GM would take their heads out of there asses, they would hire guys like this. Very nice job. Air conditioning?

  • I don't know if that one has it, but you can rob the prious AC compressor and use that, works really well.

The prius, if nothing else, is good for electrically drive accesories, like power strearing pumps, elecric power brakes, electric heating, electric air conditioning.

  • Great interview!

  • Sweet

  • what Volts and Amperes does it draw at full acceleration.

  • They should have used a Chevy S-10 Xtreme! Would have looked better for sure.

  • 2 series you can make the Range longer by Doubling up on your Voltage source...

Of course you will add another 900 Lbs to the Cars weight.

Meaning 2 Series hooked to another 2 in series and so on.

Still a good Idea... I live in Canada so I am interested in the Battery Heater. and Range because the my City is over 20 Miles across one way. so a 35 to 40 Mile range is what I need..... I know you can add a small generator and get longer range.

  • EV IS THE FUTURE!

  • don't suppose you could do that to my s-10? lol. maybe some day I can afford to.

  • keep the good work! Yes EV !
