Trade ins are where people have lots of old games that they had a lot of fun with in the past and just want to get rid of them because they are done with games or they need some quick cash. Or a new game is coming out. Either way, you should never expect more than 5 dollars for any given game. 20 dollars TOPS, if it's a NEW game that JUST came out.
Some people trade in 8 foot tall stacks of old PS2 games, and when we give anywhere from 10 cents to 5 dollars for them, they get around $100-200.
I feel as if it is my duty to specify exactly what our policies are:
New Items:
Not returnable (Return = Full Value) once opened.
Only returnable unopened, with receipt from any gamestop, OR if the item is defective. If a new item is defective, you have 30 days from the day on your receipt to bring it in AND EXCHANGE IT for the IDENTICAL ITEM.
If you buy a USED game, it is returnable within 7 days, with receipt, no questions asked. 30 days for defective swap.
Also, when you "pre-ordered" a game and they said that you didn't, you probably went back to the wrong gamestop. We don't have a system-ride reservation set-up because EACH STORE NEEDS TO KNOW HOW MANY ITEMS TO GET FOR EACH RESERVATION. If you reserve it at GAMESTOP 1 and try to pick it up at GAMESTOP 2, they won't know who the HELL YOU ARE because they DON'T HAVE YOUR GODDAMN GAME. So many people are like you. You need to get a grip on reality and the business world. Period.
We deal with bitchy customers like you all day, and that "muggy shit asshole face" of your loyal employee example was generated over 9000 people like you giving us shit for YOU losing your 50 bucks. Everything you said was your fault. If you expect a lot for a game when you trade it in, your an idiot.
And about your online order: They don't run their "invisible" stores like they do their physical store-fronts. Yet. But if you have the ability to go to the store (like you do), then just do that.
If you buy a NEW game off the shelf, and then turn around asking to "trade it in", regardless whether we KNOW you JUST bought it, we can't take it if you opened it. It's yours. It's used. It's now worth to us what a pawn shop would give. It's worth whatever it takes to sit that piece of crap game on our shelf. Do you see how many batman arkham asylums are on the shelf? A lot. Do you know why? It's a bad game. Don't buy it unless you buy it used, so you can return it in 7 days.
If you played Batman for more than 7 days, then why the hell should you get back 50 dollars for something that everyone else paid $65.54 NEW PRICE so that YOU could get a used copy for 5 dollars off. Gamestop wouldn't exist if we didn't make the profit we do. I wouldn't be able to supply CD-ROM Crack to children like you who think it's OK to abuse your parents ID to buy an M rated game. Don't expect a return policy on a NEW ITEM when HALF OUR BUSINESS runs off of USED PROFIT.

If you are "TRADING IN ITEMS" you are going to get a corporate-generated number. If you really had bought Batman "the other day", your FREE 7 DAY RETURN POLICY FOR USED ITEMS was still in effect. Trading in games is for poor suckers who need food and shouldn't have bought games in the first place. If you buy Batman, it's YOURS. You PLAYED IT. GTFO.
Then it would still be a pawn shop. You cannot trade anything in without it being a Pawn shop. If it was not Pawn shop, all you could do is buy games new. No trades at all, nor buying used games. Only new games will be sold at a non pawn shop. No Trade ins.
You wish that it would be more fair? All you have to do is this: Don't buy shitty games and expect to get all (or most) of your money back. If you want to try out a game that you are checking to make sure is good, then buy it USED. If it sucks, return it for full within 7 days. It's that simple. If you really did buy Batman "the other day", then you could have gotten your full credit back. If you didn't buy it "the other day", then you got your $55 worth of playtime, and you can't get it back.

And I defend gamestop because their policies are clearly written, and they make total sense. I like how a lot of people complain that they don't get all of their money back. What are you expecting? All of it? That makes sense. I mean, because you sell cars for the same amount you pay for them. Games are bought based on the demand for them. The fact that you just didn't say "no thanks" to the offer and instead acted like a jackass by verbally assaulting the cashier because they didn't give you the 50+ you were expecting proves that you don't know how a business works. Buy low sell high.

One time i bought a Tom Clancy Game from Game stop and it was a complete other game used, wouldn't let me get my money back..
Then i Tried to sell my DS lite buy the told my since i didn't have a stylist i had to buy a stylist pack for 10 buck!

i woulda thought youd get up to 15 dollars for batman...but 5???? ive had problems with online as well i got fucked out of a preorder for darksiders since i guess my billing and shipping address needs to be the same(only order that need that btw) so i traded it in for 25 cuz i really didnt care for it but if its a brand new game they most likely will give you 25 for it

Gamestop told me and every associate who gets hired there that there business thrives on used game market. They dont make any money on new games. Or name brand accessories they are a company who makes there money off bullshit trade values and a shitty magazine they get you to sign up for called gameinformer. Gamestops trade values are corporate set as i told many customers if you dont like the trade values dont shop here. Not being an asshole but it is what it is. However you have alternatives....Ebay, craigslist,friends,bestbuy started doing trades,Gametrader,gamecrazy you have so many stores you can go to beside gamestop. Trade ins are where people have lots of old games that they had a lot of fun with in the past and just want to get rid of them because they are done with games or they need some quick cash. Or a new game is coming out. Either way, you should never expect more than 5 dollars for any given game. 20 dollars TOPS, if it's a NEW game that JUST came out.
Some people trade in 8 foot tall stacks of old PS2 games, and when we give anywhere from 10 cents to 5 dollars for them, they get around $100-200.

I feel as if it is my duty to specify exactly what our policies are:
New Items:
Not returnable (Return = Full Value) once opened.
Only returnable unopened, with receipt from any gamestop, OR if the item is defective. If a new item is defective, you have 30 days from the day on your receipt to bring it in AND EXCHANGE IT for the IDENTICAL ITEM.
If you buy a USED game, it is returnable within 7 days, with receipt, no questions asked. 30 days for defective swap.

Also, when you "pre-ordered" a game and they said that you didn't, you probably went back to the wrong gamestop. We don't have a system-ride reservation set-up because EACH STORE NEEDS TO KNOW HOW MANY ITEMS TO GET FOR EACH RESERVATION. If you reserve it at GAMESTOP 1 and try to pick it up at GAMESTOP 2, they won't know who the HELL YOU ARE because they DON'T HAVE YOUR GODDAMN GAME. So many people are like you. You need to get a grip on reality and the business world. Period.

If you buy a NEW game off the shelf, and then turn around asking to "trade it in", regardless whether we KNOW you JUST bought it, we can't take it if you opened it. It's yours. It's used. It's now worth to us what a pawn shop would give. It's worth whatever it takes to sit that piece of crap game on our shelf. Do you see how many batman arkham asylums are on the shelf? A lot. Do you know why? It's a bad game. Don't buy it unless you buy it used, so you can return it in 7 days.

If you are "TRADING IN ITEMS" you are going to get a corporate-generated number. If you really had bought Batman "the other day", your FREE 7 DAY RETURN POLICY FOR USED ITEMS was still in effect. Trading in games is for poor suckers who need food and shouldn't have bought games in the first place. If you buy Batman, it's YOURS. You PLAYED IT. GTFO.

Then it would still be a pawn shop. You cannot trade anything in without it being a Pawn shop. If it was not Pawn shop, all you could do is buy games new. No trades at all, nor buying used games. Only new games will be sold at a non pawn shop. No Trade ins.

You wish that it would be more fair? All you have to do is this: Don't buy shitty games and expect to get all (or most) of your money back. If you want to try out a game that you are checking to make sure is good, then buy it USED. If it sucks, return it for full within 7 days. It's that simple. If you really did buy Batman "the other day", then you could have gotten your full credit back. If you didn't buy it "the other day", then you got your $55 worth of playtime, and you can't get it back.
