@recardwizard The store that I go to would never let you play without playing. It kind of sucks. If they did let you play without paying, I would get this...
The book teaches how the stuff is read. The spreadsheet was essentially a free gift for everyone who bought the book. Everyone else is welcome to look at it but I make no guarantees that you will be able to get any usefulness out of it.
I just bought you book...and sadly it says it wont be delivered till last week of Feb. with the second fastest shipping. I am sad because of that, since I live in the U.S. How come shipping is so late? Also, are you going to do one of those "If you bought my 1st edition, save on 2nd" As I really want to get conflux down...but dont have the money to try and "map" it myself...Thanks, and I'll let you know how my experience goes when I Finally get the book.
Don't worry -- it won't take that long. Somehow the system always gives these WAY long delivery times, but you'll get it within a week or so at worst, according to what everyone who has bought it has been telling me. The Conflux update is still in the works. I'm going to try to differentiate "update only" versus "update with book" to be fair to those who already bought in.
LOL I had this same box, except that instead of Sharuum the disruption put the Sphinx Sovereign and the Ethersworn Canonist to the top. I never could find the Sharuum...
Many of the best rares are "constructed" rares, no good at all in limited. Most "limited" bombs are not good or valuable in constructed. It's a nice symbiotic relationship. My book teaches how to get the constructed material outta there, leaving nothing but good limited cards.
It's a surprise! OK, seriously though, I am not going to give a contents list, because I like there to be more to discover when someone gets the book into their hands. I have already revealed through videos and such that Shards, 10th, and Planar Chaos are fully mapped, and I have posted that there are calculations (other than mapping) for Future Sight, Morningtide, Onslaught, Dissension, Revised, Legends, and Beta. The rest is still gift-wrapped under the tree for all of you!
Still yet to be determined. Second edition isn't due until late summer 2009 at the soonest, and will contain different sets than First Edition did. (This way, every edition is worth owning, instead of making older ones obsolete and annoying the people who bought them.) I haven't yet figured out the best way to handle the sets that come out in the meanwhile.
I was wondering if the book has patterns for Lorwyn and Shadowmoor blocks, because I am not sure which booster box of those I will get for myself as christmas present. And is the book easy to understand because Iam a Finn and Im not that good in english. Thx :)
The Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block is not covered in the book, for reasons the book explains, except Morningtide (and for math/calculation purposes, because MTD does not map.)
I do not doubt that your system works for all the sets that have come out so far, but in regards to what you said at the end, couldn't wizards just use a randomizing function to make the packs, well, random, like everyone thinks they are? I realize that by nature computers are unable to do anything "random," but I have seen these functions before in simple programming.
Actually, though every set maps, for some sets the collation is complex enough that it isn't worth it to derive the map. The book explains how to use statistical formulae to get the best possible yield out of boxes of those sets. Why WOTC doesn't do that for all sets is anyone's guess. It is probably cheaper from a production standpoint to have a collation that's not all that complex.
Also, the idea is that you want to open your constructed money rares that aren't so great in limited, like the dual lands and such, so that you don't open them at a draft and have to pass them along and take a critical common or uncommon. The jank rares that are only good in limited... sure, why not open those! Filobel is basically correct, though doing it that precisely is toeing the boundary of cheating, which I don't advocate.
Wow you had a horrible box with messed-up packs and still had that many left over. For those of us who are learning this for the first time, I think this is the most valuable video! Because I am sure we will make errors as we are lerning the process. I ordered your book so I will let you know how it works when I receive it!!! Thanks!!!
i dont know how you figured it out but its cool. most people spend 10 min opining two packs.

i wonder... how many booster boxes do you think you have opened, total? like.. in your life. i've opened three and just ordered another but.. man
pyroticmaniac 2 years ago
so you could put aside 3 boosters with the best 3 cards and use them to win a draft? :)
ssuuppeerrbbooyy 2 years ago
It would be horrific cheating, but yes, you could do exactly that. Oh look, a third Flameblast Dragon! Guess I'm playing red! etc...

@recardwizard playing red is pretty hard my white/red deck rocks i even beat some tournament decks :P

I want to buy the book, but I don't want to set up a Paypal account!
I think you would have more customers, when you would allow them to pay in other ways.
The video is very impressive anyway!

i want to get a beta booster box and open a black lotus and some moxes and sell the rest of the packs to people trying to get them xP
secretspy1 3 years ago
For Beta, this isn't necessary, seeing as translucent packs enabled you to just see the rare of the pack.
This is also a reason why you should never buy any loose beta packs. (same goes for a few other sets from back in the day, before they fixed it)
MuramasaMike 3 years ago
You call this the blooper reel but even this box went very well in my opinion.
You only opened 1/6th of the boosters which is still very good to get all the good stuff.
I expected something like "Oh noooo, wrong again!!" LOL :P

If you're going to draft with all of the boosters anyway then isn't this virtually pointless? You could just take those cards as your first picks.
andytoz 3 years ago
Not everyone's a rare drafter. Lich's mirror isn't exactly a 1st pick.
It does mean however that he could figure out which packs has limited bombs and bring those to the draft.
"Would you look at that! I opened flameblast dragon, predator dragon and sigil of distinction!"

Err... very good point, lol
