Thanks a lot! Glad I found this. Now I would like to know how to add text to my food pictures. I want to add a recipe right on the pic. Thanks in advance.
@jlampert99 - in the Export dialogue box there is a Watermark section. You need to do two things-- check on the option for watermarks then select the watermark you created from the pulldown menu. If it says "Simple Copyright Watermark" Lightroom is just using its default settings. If your watermark isn't in the list, you can click Edit watermark to create one.
OMG. thats why.. you have to go to the watermark box in the export menu to make it appear in the picture as you export it. i thought, by simply editing the watermark, the watermark will appear directly on the picture since the dialog box that appears in the edit watermark box lets you see the picture plus the added watermark.. hahahaha.. thanks @ajwood2001 !!
Hi A.J.! Can you please explain how you then edit a watermark once it's been created? In other words, I set up my watermark in LR, exported a picture with it, but didn't like the size or placement. So, I went it to edit it but LR is forcing me to resave it with a new name. Why should I have to resave it over and over when I'm not really changing anything except placement and size. Thanks!
@ajwood2001 I must be missing something because that's not working. When I pick the name of a previously saved watermark, everything reverts back to the original settings of that watermark. If I try to edit the watermark after selecting it from the drop down menu, LR only gives me a "Done" option, which does not save anything. What am I missing?
@T2Reno - Try this. Choose "Edit Watermark" to open the dialogue box. If your watermark isn't already chosen, select it from the pulldown menu (top left of dialogue). Make the changes you want to the watermark. If you go back to the pulldown menu you will see the option "Update Preset 'Your Watermark's Name'" in the list. The option won't be there until you edit & change your watermark.
@ajwood2001 You aren't going to believe this but I'm not getting the Update Preset option in the pulldown menu no matter how many changes I make to the watermark.
@T2Reno - Hmmmm... When you change an existing watermark the pulldown should show "Your Watermark Name (edited)". If it is showing "Custom" then it sees it as a new watermark but you should still have the option to save it. What options does the pulldown menu give you? If you watched yesterday's show, there's a spot at the end where I show how I add graphic watermarks to Lightroom.
@ajwood2001 Ohh!!!!! Gah gah gah, ok I got it that time! Here's what I was doing wrong: I was confusing the LR pulldown menu with the dialogue box pulldown menu. I thought you were directing me back up to the LR pulldown menu, but you clearly said top left of dialogue box in last comment and that didn't register with me. THANKS for being so patient with me A.J.! And for helping me get through this issue that kept perplexing me!!! :D
thanks for making it simple - had trouble with the copyright symbol (kept hitting enter at end) - do you have a video for the graphic? How do you make a graphic watermark to place in LR? I have elements.
@2007omi - a graphic watermark isn't much different from the text. In Elements, whatever symbol you intend to use I would save on a transparent background as a PNG file. In Lightroom in the Watermark dialogue choose to import the graphic you created. Stay tune, and I'll be sure to include a video on that topic in the future.
hello...im having trouble adding a watermark to photos takin with my nikon d5100.....im able to add watermrks to photos takin with my canon powershot or, so far any other camera, but i just bought this camera and noticed as soon as i export a photo and go to check on it....the watermark isnt there.....any advice will be greatly appreciated...
@Helio323 - I have not heard of watermarking problems being camera specific. IF you are able to import the images, then your Nikon camera is probably supported. I would double-check your export settings, or better yet test with a quick text-based watermark.
@AngelusFromHell - the PC version is not altogether different from the Mac version. It may be the section for watermarks is simply collapsed by default when you export images. Watermarking should be after Metadata and above Post-Processing.
@kingofpopsgirl - currently Lightroom does not have the ability to edit video. You can only import video files to the Library module so that they can be cataloged with the images from the same event. If you wanted to edit frames from a video file you would need Premiere (or Premiere Elements). You might also use iMovie or Final Cut on a Mac.
@SHEEPY2006 - For troubleshooting purposes, I would try a text based watermark first. If you verify the watermark appears when you use the Slideshow, Print or Web module then you should be able to choose it when you export. When exporting an image, select the Watermark category, and your watermark should appear in the list.
ei AJ, i got a question, im just new in making the watermark on lightroom, by any chance do you know where can i costumize or make my own graphic watermark? and is it possible to combine the text and the graphic in LR 3? thanks!
@quintano20 - I would use Photoshop, Illustrator or something similar to create a graphic watermark. In Lightroom the choice is between a text or graphic watermark. However, you could create a graphic watermark in Photoshop that includes text. It would be saved as a single image, but would accomplish what you're trying to do.
@pjos111 - watermarks placed on exported images are permanent. You would need Photosohop or another image editor to remove any existing watermark on a photo. You can create different watermarks within Lightroom to be used for different purposes.
Thanks a lot! Glad I found this. Now I would like to know how to add text to my food pictures. I want to add a recipe right on the pic. Thanks in advance.

@T2Reno - you do not need to save it with a new name. Simply pick the name of the previously saved watermark, and you'll be prompted to overwrite it.
