  • At first I thought after cutting the paper apart he was going to use 5/6 the paper but then he took away that part and used the 1/6 part paper! My mind was blown.....

  • Yes but will it blend?

  • Your the best man.. You inspire me always.. I was even a member of your website for a time.. I have some videos also of me folding but of course i'm no nasa scientist. I just love it anyway

  • Can I use copy paper or note book paper

  • (15 mins later) why won't it work

  • @matto809 I'll need a little more info to diagnose the issue via email. Does it tumble? Does it turn? Are you having trouble flying it?

  • Lol

  • If it does go sideways you could go round in circles

  • did u go to bhds or brandise hillel day school the other day like on monday i was there

  • @superkid793

    That was me.

  • Hey John, have I seen you at the Singapore Science Centre?

  • @kenkol33

I've made 4 trips to Singapore for programs at the Science Centre. So, if you were there, yes, you could've seen me in Singapore.

  • @ThePaperAirplaneGuy No wonder. Last year you were there. Your airplanes could fly from one end from the area to the other end. And you said some other guy who makes paper airplanes has a hand like a bazooka! That was the time i saw you.

  • I dont really panic in Chinese i panic in english. lol

  • T.A.G I made a small modification to the T.W. So now it's a glider

  • OMG am sry, again what is the size of rhis paper :S >.<

  • @3all0000sha

It's out of a regular sized phone book. The strip used here is about 40mm wide.

  • @ThePaperAirplaneGuy err then whats the length of the strip coz i dont really have a phonebook in my house so i'm using newspapers.

  • @josh9rox

The strip of paper is approximately 28cm long and 4.5 cm wide. News print is heavier than phonebook paper, so you may need to make it 5.5 cm wide.

  • i created 6 planes. One of the them can fly well like the Nakamura lock paper airplane.

  • Lol. I love the self advertising from 5:00 to 5:07. Very smooth. xD

  • Do u know the phoneix lock? i know how to do some tricks with this plane but not the backwards trick. can u help me with that?thanks

  • please can you make that really fast plane?

  • do u know the batplane? if you know could u teach me how to make its wings flap in the air. Thanks!

  • @rishi5154 There's an iphone ap for that and one on my website The Paper Airplane Guy.

  • Well, i know how to do loop with a NAKAMURA LOCK PAPER AIRPLANE

  • @rishi5154 Bomb the elevators, lol

  • Do u know what's the best airplane?

  • @rishi5154 That really depends on your definition of best. The best glider won't be the best dart. The best stunt plane may not be the best glider. Planes that fly like the Tumbling Wing don't work outside, but I've flown them for more than a half hour indoors.

  • Could you tell me paper you use? I use a5 paper

  • @rishi5154 Use phone book paper or something similar. Regular copier paper is much heavier and harder to fly.

  • wow! i thought u never reply, and i am a singaporean(but born in india!). i started to watch your video SCS Nakumaura Lock in FEB 2010

  • @rishi5154 Drop by the Singapore Science Center and ask about my books. They may still have a few copies left over from my visits.

  • @ThePaperAirplaneGuy could u post a video about how to make a paper walkalong glider?thnx!

  • @dilah1990 I'll be posting video for every plane in both of my books. That includes the one you're asking about. Keep an eye on my personal site, The Paper Airplane Guy.

  • @ThePaperAirplaneGuy Okay um..could u give me the link for your persoal website?thnx

  • I tried to make the wing to "float" in the air in your way, so can you upload a video of how to fly it.

  • @rishi5154 Use a piece of cardboard to create an updraft. Do this by leaning the top of the cardboard back slightly, then walk forward the same speed the plane is moving forward. Position the cardboard under and behind the plane so that the wave of air generated by the cardboard supports the plane. When the speed of the air moving up the face of the cardboard is the same as the downward speed of the plane, a balancing effect is acheived; allowing you to fly the plane.

  • use the force young skywalker

  • @fmullappallil1 lol,i can only do it for a few seconds!

  • Yes!

  • I made it correct but the cardboard flying doesn't

  • You are a Jedi

  • i cant do it. :'(

  • Wow,ua are 1 great guy, an i long to see u agn in nxt years Safmc in singapore,so,are u coming huh?

  • I haven't been invited for 2010 yet.

  • He doesn't show how to START it. PLEASE SHOW HOW TO START IT!!!

  • Just drop it so that it tumbles the direction you're going to fly it. Position the cardboard as shown and walk into position behind the tumbling wing. If you're having trouble, double check that the top edge is pointing away from you. I usually hold the top edge and release the plane with a VERY gentle spin inducing nudge downward.

  • i have a qeustion on the follow foil. when i make it, it flys straight and kinda fast. i dont want to wreck it, so how do i fix it?

  • If you're talking about the follow foil (and not the tumbling wing) simply add more up elevator and more leading edge droop. You're using phone book paper, right?

  • yeah i was taling about the follow foil, the one that you kept aloft for a half hour. yeah im using phone book paper. thx, i like getting advice from the maker

  • just made mine an love its not the best at turnin!!

  • but it was too heavy to fly !

  • Very light paper works best.

  • I Tried With An Old Copy Like Classmate Or Bilt It Works Great Try It ?

  • that's great ! can you show us more video's ?

  • i love you O.O

  • Right back at you.

  • Do this works with blockpaper?

  • I'm not sure what blockpaper is. I'm using paper that weighs very little. The more the paper weighs, the faster you'll have to walk to make the supporting updraft. The limiting factor is that the plane tumbles forward too slowly; so that following at sufficient speed to generate the required updraft becomes impossible.

    I hope that helps.

  • can you use printer paper and line paper plz reply.

  • You can make the plane from paper that heavy, but you probably won't be able to fly it easily.

  • Thank you.

  • could u show us how to make the other plane that is like the tumbling wing .

  • could u show us how to make a plane that stays in the air for a long time , when u throw it

  • Thanks paper airplane guy , we had a contest on school with three criteria , which stays in the air the longest , which is the nicest looking , which is a new design , which goes furthest away , i won 3 of them , all except of the furthest away .

Height was about 7 meters and it stayed in the air for about 1.5 minute

  • is not that i like making these things but i respect you and your skills at being the best. Thanks for showing everyone

  • can you make a video showing how to make it with wrapping paper

  • It's exactly the same instructions. Experiment with different sized strips of paper. The lighter the paper, the easier it is to keep aloft. The wider you make the strip, the slower it tumbles.

  • Thank you. I am only ten so please forgive me if this is a stupid question. Can I use any type of cardboard? My mom thinks that I can, so she won't buy me the one that you showed.

  • lol you can use any kind of cardboard the paper airplane guy was joking

  • i trued making one out of tissue paper, really frustrating!!

  • well done ;)

  • could u make this out of loss leaf?

  • If you mean loose leaf binder paper, the answer is yes, but you'll have to move faster to keep it aloft and perhaps use a bigger piece of cardboard.

  • This is awesome; I got it to work after a bit of practice. If yours are tipping off a lot to the side increase the size of the winglets. It really helped with mine. Thanks for the design.

  • Good tip. I've definitely found that to be true.

  • I cant get the tumbling wing to stay up. How do u do it please make a video of how to do it. Also make some videos of some different and new planes. Thanks!

  • Haha @ 0:43 "I don't panic in Chinese."

Great video here, I've always loved the tumbling wing glider. I remember discovering it when I was about six years old and messing around with different designs for a while. I had no idea you could use a slope lift on tumbling wing gliders, I have to try that.

Oh I just noticed this video was posted on my birthday as well :D

Anyways, great video, I love people with an interest in gliders.

  • wad is the width (the shorter part) of the paper u tore away aka. the 1/6 of the paper. my phone book paper doesn't look like the one have.

  • 38 to 42 mm wide should work. The exact dimensions aren't critical. A wider strip will tumble slower. I really like 42 mm wide for a regular phone book height.

  • hey.. nice show at the science center

  • that is so cool

  • How do you make the airplane that drops the bomb.please make the video asap

  • how many inches is a `Thumb and a half'?

  • That would be one and a half inches, or very precisely 33mm, in my case. Don't get hung up with the measurements. Just do it.

  • I tried making your bat-wing plane..but the wings don't flap..how do I fix it? And from the video that is on your website, the paper doesnt seem to be the legal-sized printing paper, so am i suppose to use a paper of a different size?

Thanks. I love the planes that you make, especially the one that drops the bomb and the one that flies back upside-down. Are the instructions on making them in your book?

    Cheers

  • Try folding The Bat Plane with phonebook paper.

And yes, everything on the video is in my books; except the F-14 that briefly on the big screen. That was designed by Michael G. LaFosse.

  • This is sooo cool . It impressed all my friends.

  • very cool!

  • i do not no how to use the card borad can you help me

  • Keep the top of the cardboard leaned back slightly. That way you'll scoop air up the face of the cardboard. The trick is to create an updraft that moves upward the same speed as the tumbling wing is moving down. So, you'll need to carefully observe the tumbling wing flying without assistance, and then match that with your cardboard efforts.

  • very cool

  • can you make a video of a airplane that comes back to you

  • Already posted that. Just search for the paper airplane guy and boomerang plane.

  • Then use a scissors.
