Personally, I like this theme better than the 3rd Season Theme b/c it was so cool and I liked it and plus, during the 85/85 Season, Miami Vice, Punky Brewster, Snorks and HUNTER were also back for a 2nd Season on NBC as well
and plus, the late Bill Cullen was still hosting The Joker's Wild and Tom Kennedy was hosting The Price is Right on syndication and Body Language for CBS
and also, NBC even gave us The Golden Girls and 227 and The Facts of Life was back for its 7th Season as well

I've been studying comedy for 5 years, I fail to see what's so funny about this show. It's just another generic family friendly sitcom just like the others from the 1980s.
Today's sitcoms doesn't suck. Most of them are actually funny and don't rely on cute kids to make the show funny.
This show is basically the only 80's comedy show that was good - and it was the only African-American TV show that was not racist or stereotypical at all... so I fail to see how you can like "Wizards of Waverly Place" or "iCarly" better than this.

I don't watch those shows. How can you assume that I like those shows just because I hate this show? I watch comedies like Scrubs, The Office, 30 Rock, Flight of the Conchords, How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory and stuff like that. Now those shows are actually funnier than this show. They don't shove stupid after school lessons down your throat unlike this show, so that's why I think it's overrated.
Well you really can't compare 30 Rock or Office to this show. Cosby Show is a family show (and family shows "shove after school lessons down your throat"), and 30 Rock and the examples you have definitely ARE NOT family shows. This is the best of the family show genre.

I'm glad someone agrees with me. I thought I was alone on this one. I fail to see what makes this show so funny. The first episode was funny, but that was it. It was just basically condensing, smug lectures from Claire Huxtable (which is the most annoying TV character in my opinion) and Cosby hamming it up for the camera. They call this comedy?
It always seems to me like he's dancing and he forgets the last note is coming, so he turns to look at the camera a split second late like "oh, shoots, time for a commercial already?"

The things that this show did for the African-American community...please, you all are crazy. This show promoted education, the arts, family, and most important, BLACK LOVE. Bill Cosby and the cast of the Cosby Show changed the world. You all need to get a grip and stop hatin', cause that's what it sounds like to me, y'all hatin'!

It is supposed to be a sitcom, not an after school special. Sitcoms are supposed to make you laugh, not learn. There was nothing funny about this show. Fuck!

Cant say it any better myself. It's as if people have really bought into this notion that ALL black people are ghetto and simple...as if we really are a big monolith. The legacy of this show is that it showed the freakin' country that black people could be, can be...and are just as "American" in their ideals and values as anyone else. All the revisionist history about it not being 'black' enough cracks me up. WTF does that mean? It's not real if we're not in the ghetto (ex. Good Times)?

@cbaldwinjr Just for the record, there was criticism from some when the show was first on the air that it wasn't "black enough," so it's not just revisionist history. I agree that this criticism was misguided, but it WAS there.

@773SleepyHollow You're so right, I remember at the time my mom's bf hated the show because he said "no black people I know live like that" he was basically a man who could never let go of his ghetto past. All I could think was I hoped I would be a dad like Cliff when I had a family...and I hope my kids think I am..if not, well I'll just beat them until they do. (joke!). :-)

I've been studying comedy for 5 years, I fail to see what's so funny about this show. It's just another generic family friendly sitcom just like the others from the 1980s.
Today's sitcoms doesn't suck. Most of them are actually funny and don't rely on cute kids to make the show funny.

This show is basically the only 80's comedy show that was good - and it was the only African-American TV show that was not racist or stereotypical at all... so I fail to see how you can like "Wizards of Waverly Place" or "iCarly" better than this.

I don't watch those shows. How can you assume that I like those shows just because I hate this show? I watch comedies like Scrubs, The Office, 30 Rock, Flight of the Conchords, How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory and stuff like that. Now those shows are actually funnier than this show. They don't shove stupid after school lessons down your throat unlike this show, so that's why I think it's overrated.

Well you really can't compare 30 Rock or Office to this show. Cosby Show is a family show (and family shows "shove after school lessons down your throat"), and 30 Rock and the examples you have definitely ARE NOT family shows. This is the best of the family show genre.

Rashad, modern sitcoms (98% of them) is some of the most worthless stuff that has ever been put on television.
it's why the sitcom has been dying as a genre.
a person would have to be utterly devoid of good taste to even compare them to this classic, much less say what you have said. You HAVE TO be a millennial, no one my age or older could have taste this poor lol.

I'm glad someone agrees with me. I thought I was alone on this one. I fail to see what makes this show so funny. The first episode was funny, but that was it. It was just basically condensing, smug lectures from Claire Huxtable (which is the most annoying TV character in my opinion) and Cosby hamming it up for the camera. They call this comedy?

They're not "pretending to be white". Anyone of any race can be extremely successful. You could be blue with red polka dots and be successful. I'll have you know that I know many black people who are successful, and all the same, I know that there are just as many white people who are unsuccessful. And don't use that repulsive word when describing dark-skinned people. I could call whites "white trash" but I don't because it's wrong. I'm not racist. But I think it's time you had a reality check.

Well obviously I was talking to the one who is Orientalsonacid or whatever his name is, and you decided to add your two cents worth or in this case half a penny of thoughts to this thought process. No one was referring to you. I know that the individual who uses the "n word" is definitelty a racist in his way of thinking. It shows that they do not wish to evolve and that they want to be in a frame of mind of putting down someone who is of another race.
