  • I LOVE U

  • Excellent video, the experience of a teacher and player coming through in the way you talk the viewer through it. I'm here all the way in India, or else I would certainly have contacted you for lessons!

  • he is giving you gold hear ;)

  • This guy is awesome!

    Really accurate.

    Really nice guy too.

Love the backing track he leaves for ya at the end to try out what you've just learned.

I'm gonna check his band for sure.

  • It helped me a lot.

    Thank you :D

  • Fuckin fast,go slower

  • @MoicanoLP You are meant to read the tabs, the video is just an insight as to what it sounds like and how you should play it.

  • Love your lessons ! Always helping me as hell!

    Thanks!

  • my dad gave me his Gibson SG from 1961. it's awesome :)

  • thank you maaaaan nice guitar lesson

  • 105 people are jealous they can't play Sabbath as awesome as this.

    Great Sabbath lessons. Thank you!

  • Its super! Thanks!

Its much better that solo from Randy Rhoads, but before i come here, i couldnt find tabs for Tommies solo.

  • Great job man

  • why the hell this guy has 100 dislikes?

  • Thanks a lot man!!!! thanks to you I was able to perform it LIVE at my school's show. I only have 5 moths playing electric, but we ROCKED the place!!!! thanks again...

  • Nicely Done, Doc! But what does it mean "happy 11/11/11"?

    Best regards!

  • @MultiRudley 11/11/11 was National Day of Metal

  • Bloody Good- both playing and the tutorial!

Me being the noob I am would have liked more indication of which tab, as opposed to just E, but when watched in conjunction with your (great) video, I finally got down one of my favorite solo's ever!

  • i love you man. i don't know why, but i seriously do ; )

  • in the original recording of the song what effect is he using? because if you listen carefully you can hear a strange variation of the solo coming out of the right speaker and the actual solo coming out of the left ear.

  • @AFtheRocker Great question. I am not sure but I think it was a ringmod

  • @AFtheRocker It's a second guitar overdubbed with an "octave" effect. It's basicly a some sort of equalizer pedal that increases the octave over or undertones below or above the sounded note depending on the pedal settings. It was very popular in the late 60's and 70's. Hendrix used it a lot.

  • Which guitar do you think the original solo was played with? The monkey or the white Sg with the tremolo bar?

I never read anywhere that detail.

  • @muaythai4lifelife My guess would be the Monkey SG... zero evidence to back that up, but that seems about right!

    Happy 11/11/11

  • @muaythai4lifelife thanx ;)

  • @muaythai4lifelife I recently read that he did "Paranoid" on a Les Paul.

  • @jacolby0369 Hey you're right, this interview with Tony on Gibson site:

    QUOTE

I could never use a Les Paul because it was too big for me, too bulky in the back. It never felt comfortable. But I did use a white Les Paul. I did “Paranoid” on a Les Paul, an old one. And I used a black Les Paul, a Black Beauty, just to try something different than the SG. But that was the first and last time I used a Les Paul. I could never get the hang of it; I always wanted to but I could never do it.

    ENDQUOTE

  • where is the tabs?

  • Nailed it in 30 minutes. Great lesson, thank you very much!

  • @Mtc529 !!! Rt on, great to hear it. Thanks

  • how long have you been playing for

  • GREAT TEACHER!! THANKS =D

  • you're such a great guitar teacher (also good guitar player). Thanx for this lesson, which perfectly showed me how to perform this solo properly. There is another solo you should like to play, Crazy Train. It would be interesting and helpful if you make a video explaining how to play it part by part (like the way you do above). Just a suggestion! Great job man.

  • @92McFadden nice message, thanks! Probably going to stick with classic Sabbath, but your suggestion is extremely tempting, that whole record is a guitar masterpiece.

  • @doctornerve All right, due to your lesson My friends and I managed to play paranoid (just for fun, we can notice by the bad quality) but the solo was good, almost the way you taught us. Maybe i missed some notes. here's the results watch?v=A1-n8yUL4v8

thanks! not gonna disturbe anymore with messages, lol!

  • @92McFadden Dug it!

  • Thanks for the lesson. Also you have a great method unlike most of the tutorials on youtube. Keep up the good work.

  • Best Paranoid solo cover on Youtube.. and it's a tutorial too! :o

  • "classic rock bend" i dont know how you do that, without touch the 4 string

  • @diegoalcar14 you do touch the 4th string but it stays quiet. When I do it the finger tip pushes the 4th string but also mutes it

  • teach Mr. Crowley nooooooooooooooooooooooow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks nerve doc, wishes from machupichu

  • Dude this helped me learn a lot now I can play the whole paranoid!

  • is this in Em ?

  • @lallalallalalla E major

  • @fty170 on the extended blues scale or the normal one?

  • @lallalallalalla straight up E minor pentatonic blue scale.

  • @doctornerve thank you! I have another question: if the song is in Emajor why is the solo in the E minor scale? shouldn't it be in the Emajor scale?

  • @lallalallalalla It's in E minor, not E major. The main riff chords are E, D, G, D, E, G, right? G is the minor third above E.

  • @doctornerve I got it. thank you!

  • @doctornerve Hey im a Big Fan, Could you just do a video to help with the 2nd 12 Position. It just goes like that

  • The same gibson like Tony Iommi's?

  • Nice work Doctornerve and very helpful as I'm learning this song as we speak. Question: Do you have a War Pigs Lesson available and if you do can you put it up?

  • Love your videos man. Helped me learn a lot. Thanks.

  • you are the master!

  • Whats the amps setting man???....

  • @pablovin96 A little bit of gain on the amp and a little bit of gain on the Distortus Maximus. I like the way they mix.

  • Thanks man!!

  • awesome. i'm working on it right now. sounds cool!

  • Thanks for the tab Doctor Love, I mean Doctor Nerve. It's amazing how simple the song is and the only bit that needs a bit of time to get is the solo. Thanks for taking the effort for transcribing this dude. It would take me about a year and a half and even then it wouldn't be right. I appreciate it.

  • @bergalini Nerve comes when you least expect it

  • awesome! that really help me out do you thnk you could teach heaven and hell by black sabbath im stuck on that.....GREAT job!

  • The hardest moments are played by you the fastest and it's hard to learn...

  • @TheMalyQ there are links for the tabs in the description. very helpful

  • can you do it with numbers plz im not familar with the letters

  • thanks u! good lesson

  • Thanks for a great lesson,very helpful

  • Sorry, can you make me a tablature please????

  • Dude! so helpful!

  • PLEASE WATCH MY PARANOID COVER!!!

    you wont be dissapointed!

  • love your vids doctor, you've prescribed sab for all

  • wow!!!!

    thankssssss

  • holy SH$#% yours sounds exaclty like the song!

  • really helpful dood.im returning to guitar after a ten year absence and this has helped lots, count me in for a subscription

  • hello there you are amazing and so your group, i have got a question for you , more than a question is an advice: look i,ve just make a ban d with two guitars a bass and drums, we are going to do are first concert in one month and we have very little songs i will be very pleased if you could tell us some nice songs to play , we are not very hi level but we now how to play

    thank you very much

  • wish you but tabs on the video bro. thanks for it anyway. nice job :)

  • Hey man i just realized you should put up a lesson on Planet Caravan solo .... that would be awesome

  • Your going to fast i didnt catch any of that

  • "Tabs Please"

  • @djerwulfe Nice comment, thanks. Smiling...

  • Good video, you're amazing...!! And nice Sg ;)

  • this is such a helpful lesson

  • Out of all the paranoid solos on here yours by far is the most accurate sounding, everyone else adds notes or forget some.. I use software that slows down tempo and not pitch to learn solos, I find all the notes first then to find them in bends, this software shows the frequency of the notes, I got it lower than E, just slightly, its a old trick to tune down from the rest of the band, like A is 440, tune it to 439, Tony tuned the whole guitar way down though, its played higher up on the frets.

  • @HumpnYoMama Thanks for the good words!

  • Sos un MAESTRO!!!! Capo sos el mejor!!

  • Superior. This man is teaching me the techniques of the master, Iommi.

    Awesome.

  • if someone comments saying "TABS PLASE" ill get angry....

  • @MetalInstrumentals Haha foreal

  • I like that you play it slowly but you aren't like one of those annoying guys who says every single note out loud then says it in tabs like "G string 12 fret". You play it slowly, but force us to use our ears and learn it by ear. Sometimes guys take over 10 minutes just to explain a 30 second solo. Your method is the most superior and time efficient.

  • @mattdd05 Nice words, thanks very much!

  • @doctornerve And btw thanks because I'm playing this song at a gig and your video helped me get the solo down in less than an hour.

  • @mattdd05 Rt on! Play it loud and proud

  • @mattdd05 Yeah, I hate those videos where they even tell you what finger to use and everything! I honestly think that a monkey could learna simple solo or lick from one of those videos of they were played it enough times.

  • The Doc makes it seem so easy. Another thing I've learnt from watching this excellent video is to get out of the mechanical stage and get soul into the finger tips.

  • well done, you are coll, not like others beginner slow teachers, really well done!

  • well done, you are coll, not like others begginer slow teachers, really well done!

  • Cool lesson man, I like how you also put some music theory in it.

  • thank you guy with this video i did better my technique

  • Darn, I got to learn the Paranoid's solo for our school's 8. grade music event. Well, I think I'm gonna watch this alot more times...

  • @iRawket Cool school you go to!

  • soo.. just remain to say "good luck brother¡¡

    "

  • you are like jigsaw

  • u are not old u are at jigsaw's age(thnx for paranoid man)

  • @kostasos7 Cracking up. Wish I understood this... I think I need to see Saw

  • Maybe the best tutorial for this on YT... super hands, seems like you've been playing it for the last 100 years and still making it come alive every time, thanks

  • @AnarchyAhead Well I'm not THAT old, but I get the message and it's a very nice thing to say! Thanks and rock on.

  • This video is extremely amazing, and i learned it from your tutorial and i understand the fundamentals to the solo MUCH better now. and great job on the solo, Its pretty much spot on.

  • the video respense i sent is how far i have got using this and the follow up kesson with the tab, i am not as talented as u, but u are a good teacher

  • i''ve got an epiphone SG and do you know how to get the same great sound U have ? i know it'll be a little bit difficult, but i havent got the money for a gibson .. :/

  • hey can U tell me where to get the tabs pls ? :)

  • @stones2day URL to tab is in credits and in More Info above

  • @doctornerve could it be that the tabs are a little bit wrong ? i mean this second tab; if you hve a lokk at it you'll see that in the last paragraphe are 7 strings : EBGDDAE ... ?! and the hammer on's ..^^

  • having issues with the fast part, I know the notes, but I dont really know the "rythm" or how fast i'm going to play it. I know you all thinking: Dude, listen to the song. But I dont find this easy, would be great if u uploaded the fast part and showed more exactly.

  • @isakrobin I know the feeling... please check my video entitled:

Paranoid Guitar Lesson followup, lick at 3:16 played slowly

I think that's the part you mean.

  • @doctornerve thanks m8

  • Thanks mate great video

  • Check out my paranoid solo at my channel =D

  • u could go slower man but yh kl

  • it´s great man.

  • this guy is great at teaching guitar.

hey every one, If you like guitar playing can you chaeck out my guitar playing on my channel and tell me what you think.

  • thanks alot, but i have an ibanez grg170dx and the pickups sound and i cant get the warm tone which u need for the solo

  • @kokipWnZ That's got the three pickups, right? Bridge humbucker, single coil, neck humbucker? Try the neck position humbucker and roll off a little treble. Maybe you'll get the warmer tone you want, or close.

  • amazing!,could u please tell me the amp settings? coz i just cant find a tone i want for th song

  • @kokipWnZ Thanks for the good words. I used a blackface emulation on the Flextone II amp, with just a little gain, and used the Krank Distortus Maximus stompbox, also with minimal gain. I don't recall the settings (and unless you have the same gear it would not help much!). But the key idea is not too much gain, just enough to get bite and sustain, but not so much that the tone of your ax disappears into a buzzsaw grind.

  • come on Iommi, take of the mask.

  • thanks for the tabs and video really helpful!

  • excuse me, this is totally awesome and i love you

  • pinche viejito si rifas!!!!!

  • Nice Vid I'm trying to learn that solo ATM and your vid is so helpful !

    Thanks Man Great One ! ! ! !

Greetings to all Black Sabbath Fans ! :D

    Keep Rockin !!!

    Peace :D

  • Great video, man. Your favourite part of the solo is the part I'm struggling the most with, haha. Still, this video helps alot. :)

  • Thanks for making this vid. I have always wanted to learn this solo but certain parts (especially that first lick for some reason) have always seemed like an engima to me. O_o

Great tone btw! Helps give me motivation to repair my less paul. : D

  • excelente!!! muy bien echo aprendere de este video

  • omq its my favourite solo <3

  • nice great job done for this solo!

  • nice !!!

  • Hey doctonerve, check out this video of me and a bunch of other kids performing paranoid at a summer rock camp. Im the lead guitarist btw.

    /watch?v=MdfYqYLgBt8

  • @UniversalClanForums Hey this is great - congratulations. Tight band. Excellent job on the solo, but the singer shouted crowd-rousing stuff over your best licks! For this he must be made to suffer.

  • Thanks Dr. Nerve..the prescription is in to cure my Paranoia.

  • @richnet12 !!!!

  • great video, I need to learn the entire heavan and hell album Already got Neon nights chidren of the sea and heaven and hell, need the other 5 Thanks

  • @lcgrivas Ambitious! Good luck and rock on

  • Thank you for this video. Yours is the definitive lesson on this solo. The only thing that helped me.

  • Nice man thanks! Helped out 100%

  • is this hard to play

  • is there something to doing the pull-offs on the top E string at 3:16? i'm having trouble getting the 12th fret to sound..>_< tougher calluses?

  • Very nice lesson :D But i didn't get the 12th position part so i was hoping u might could send me some tabs for it? But once again! Really nice lesson ;)

  • awsome lesson. best paranoid solo lesson on the internet

  • I play Paranoid on the 7th fret, would I have to play the solo 3 steps down the fretboard for it to sound right?

  • Good but your going much too fast

  • @wcdfilms there always have to be something bad, right?

  • Awesome idea with backing track. Awesome lesson. Thank you.

  • Nice lesson :) u helped me nail the 12th posison part :D

    but one question :P

how do u get that sound?? :P

  • @MatsAFalao Thanks! The Krank Dist Max makes a nice combination with a slightly overdriven clean setting on the Flextone. Works well at low volumes. Neither gain on the amp nor on the pedal is very high.

  • @doctornerve where did you get the tabs?

  • @juliusyeung0330 Sorry not sure what you mean. Where did I post them or how did they come into being? I made them myself and they are posted in the link provided in More Info. Thanks

  • you're a kick ass tutor \m/ thanks

  • thank you so much for posting this. Your instruction is clear and easy to follow. I never really appreciated nor had I ever realized how difficult it is to teach someone a solo. Thanks again.

Bye the way, after a week of practice and watching this video I got it down. Rock on Dr.

  • Awesome lesson right here! Great vibrato btw!

  • Thx alot! =D the solo is great, this helped me alot! =)

    Keep uploading your stuff! =)

  • thanks for help me ! you rock friend !

  • SG!! I have a similar but in black!

  • your vibrato is awesome, great lesson

  • wait wait waaiit first its reaally great, whats the tuning please, stupid question but ive been struggling with the chords what u did looked easy. is it down D or something?

  • @faRahGT Standard tuning. Thanks for the nice words

  • @faRahGT it's not in drop D. it's standard tuning. EADBGE

  • Great lessons, if you don't already professinaly teach guitar than I think you should considar.

  • OOOH!!!!!! Thanks man, i love this song :D and thanks for the backing track HEHE

  • Dude, your solo lessons are great!

I'm playing guitar for about 3 months now and playing guitar is kind of new for me, but your video's are really helping me to play solo's.

I learned the Iron Man solo as well with help from your video!

Thanks for the great video's and keep up the good work!

Oh by the way, you like so much like Gertjan Verbeek, a Dutch soccer-coach!xD

but I'll bet he can't teach solo's as clear as you!

  • Nice video man! Its much better to watch someone do it and show you rather than just having a tab on its own! Hope to learn this afternoon then I can get a whole Paranoid cover down :)

  • Excellent lesson many thanks

  • Can u answer this why does it take so long to learn this?

  • many thanks great lesson

  • a lesson with tabs, brilliant! keep it up mate.

  • Awsome lesson man, rock on!
