I think it was more his hand got stuck as his arm went over the rear wheel. I don't think he'd deliberately stick his hand in the moving parts of another bike.

The bike is harder to control if the disc's on the front. The wind plays with it too much.

In the 90s, some guys used to ride discs on front AND back. They don't do it anymore.

@zach00attack There may be no 'normal' wind but bear in mind the cyclist and bike are moving, while the air in the velodrome is not - At speeds upwards of 30mph there's plenty 'headwind' to play with a front disc!

@RochesterCycling Higher levels of racing still use discs on the front and back. THey usually only do that in team pursuit and on indoor tracks

That's correct. It's illegal to use the apron (flat blue part) during a Miss and Out. The rider used it to avoid getting eliminated at the line which would get him disqualified / relegated.

It looks like the rider that caused the crash was over taking from the duck board (the bottom of the track) which you are not allowed to do in track racing.

looks to me like he intentionally grabbed the wheel....its not hard to lock it up. notice the guy stopped pedaling meaning the rear wheel was locked out (all track bikes are fixed geared, NO COASTING)and the hand of the guy who grabbed the innocent riders wheel wasnt even near the frame meaning no broken bones or fingers
