when it comes to job application for government etc. I was taught to check white for race and hispanic for ethnicity. I always felt it was wrong, but a big part of my mother's side of the family has spaniards in them and take pride in that. I however always felt I was different and looked different. I never agreed with term hispanic and til this day everyone ask me if I'm hispanic from southamerica. Until recently someone told me I should check native american and write Taino.

Im reading a lot of post with people saying tainos are only in puerto rico and santo domingo but im here to let you all know im from haiti and my blood line is taino. Even though my blood line has african blood too (thanks to the european that brought the africans over) my grandmother is from haiti she was very dark but she had indian hair and i always how did she have hair like indians so i started my research and the elders in my family informed me that we were indians 1st. true story......

when it comes to job application for government etc. I was taught to check white for race and hispanic for ethnicity. I always felt it was wrong, but a big part of my mother's side of the family has spaniards in them and take pride in that. I however always felt I was different and looked different. I never agreed with term hispanic and til this day everyone ask me if I'm hispanic from southamerica. Until recently someone told me I should check native american and write Taino.

One does not have to be DNA certified to carry the spirit Taino. So I may have Portugese, Spaniard and African blood in my Taina mix, but by no means am I accepted, nor can I identify with either of these cultures. Therefore, I will continue to identify with what my spirit feels.

Enrique or Enriquillo lived in what is today the Dominican Republic, so you need to change you're tags. The island of Kiskeya Hayti or Bohio had the largest population of native people in the entire caribbean that's a fact. Many Dominicans have Taino blood also.

I truly detest Columbus/Colombo now. Makes me ashamed that I am part Spaniard. My grandfather's parents moved to DR and on one of his travels to PR, he met my grandmother. My grandmother, she has passed (I love you Abuela!) I dont know who her ancestors are, but Im pretty sure she had African in her blood. Anyhow, this truth explains a lot. Dominicans and cubans still have Taino heritage. We too are Tainos, we too shed blood, and Enrique the "rebel" was born in Quisqueya (the Taino name for the Island of the Dominican Republic and Haiti). His people settled in Cibao, which is a northern region in the Dominican Republic.

This year i saw about 100 hundred of dominican dying in the process because they couldnt find the land. I've read about this so many times in high school in D.R. and i still wished that somehow this documentary was going to end differently. Coño... people don't talk about this enough. We have more heros like him, hatuey, guama etc etc. What people dont understand is that the treaty was signed in 1540 but we were asummed extinct 20 years after contanct. The numbers dont add up. But this was a nessary evil. Bartolome de las cassa pushed for the extinction myth to spain. As a matter of fact. If you had 10 taino slaves some spaniords would say the 5 died.

Interesting.. im cuban and my dads side of the family were native indian i remember as a child he used to show me pictures of my great great grandfather and used to tell me he was an indian and also taught me how to make a whitle sound with my hands, but i dont know if he was taino or guanahatabey which was another tribe in cuba, but my moms side of the family was spanish..also a furtune teller told me i was indian in a past life.. Pretty cool huh!
