  • Hey. What do you think about using the pinky instead of the 3rd finger?

  • I play the Bb (Bd,D,F) with the moved A shape, until it becomes impossible higher up the board due to space, generally with a full barre across, all 6 strings, then you can play Bb/F or Bb, and the bottom string(F). The guy who teaches my kids is able to do this shape or the movable A shape. but his finger is so flexible/deformed he's able to barre the 3,4,5, without touching the bottom string.

  • Justin _ I keep muting either the the 1st or 2nd string

  • U R Great - So many guitar teachers on the net - but u r the only one I have seen that really builds a foundation that a student can build on.

  • Justine, For E major, there is no gap between the barre and fingers but for A major, you have 2nd fret open. why?

  • Justin you're so awesome!! But seriously my 4th finger knuckle doesnt bend like that!!!

  • love the accent....

  • For the ones who can't manage to do it with 1 vinger,

I actually use 2 fingers to press the D G B snares, just add your pinky finger. to mute the B

  • Fantastic!

  • rofl to the beaver or some bear at the end

  • That's a super cool video!

  • I created an account just so I could comment to say thank you so much! Your video had exactly what I was looking for. This particular barre chord had been very difficult for me, so I had been ignoring it until now. Thanks again and I'll be practicing.

  • why do i have to mute the low E-string and the high too? Isn't it the same like the type with all fingers if i play he 6th string too (type with the 3rd finger)?

  • omg im in tears! finally a youtube video that teaches it thoroughly like my dad but better because this teacher has very similar hands to mine!

  • please make a video for bar chords without using some fingers. I have a serious problem, my pinky finger was cut off at the tip so it's really painful to use it. It's totally screwed. I need some help learning chords without using normal technique and am running out of solutions. advice?

  • That two fingers A shape is so difficult!!!

I will practice it to correct my wrong A shape barre chord...

    thank you justin...

  • why is your hand bending? O_O carpal tunnel!

  • Lol, carpel tunnel is when you can't move your fingers.

  • P.S.

The bit about having your knuckle further out than your ring finger was incredibly helpful. Keep it up!

  • Man seriously, thank you SO much. I've been looking for like, a week for a video like this. Not only do you teach how to play the chord, you give some tips and tricks to make it sound better... but you obviously already know that. Anyway, yeah. Thank you so much.

  • U ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!!!!

  • wondering if anyone can answer this question, but i have a book that has the A shape withe the 6th low E string muted, and the high e string fretted by your first (index) barre. On this lesson he mutes the high e. Also google A-shapes and you'll get the same thing described in the book. Does anyone have an answer?

  • The A major chord consists of A (which is the root) C# (which is the third) and E (which is the fifth). You have to play all this three pitches to have A major chord.

You have E on G string 2nd fret, so is up to you if you mute high e string or not. The other way you can play this is to mute G string and not to mute e string. These are just different voicings of this chord.

But the important thing is to mute low E string unless you get inversion.

  • I meant you have E on D string 2nd fret. Sorry for mistake.

  • I had a look on some images of the shape on google and saw the same think you mentioned with the 5th, thanks for confirming it.

  • Justin or any one....Im finding this barre using my right hand third finger tough but Ill practice...however it sounds kind of dull anyway even when I get it right with all four strings ringing properly.....should I practice strumming only the four strings? This is as hard as fingering the barre...help

  • Does he have any videos on thumb placement???

He didn't even talk about it in the other 2 vids on this topic!

  • I am not able to get this A shape bar chord. My ring finger just won't bend and thus I mute the lower two strings together. I am just not able to mute the high e alone. Is there a way I can make that finger more flexible? Will this come with practice or is there something with my finger structure that will prevent me from getting it right?

  • Practice should resolve all issues. Check out the guys website. He has videos of things you can do to help finger strength.

  • hey thnxxx for the help

    it really worked

    ""my finger are numb now""

    but worth itt lol

  • A C shaped bar chord is build around a C?

    open C chord: (x)32010

The bar shape you play with your pinky, ring and middlefinger so you can put your bar with you ring finger.

More info=> google it or maybe here on youtube...

You can also check out justins lesson for under the bridge of RHCP. It starts with a Cshaped bar chords

    greetings & happy xmas

  • Part 3 really helped me alot. I completely avoided playing A shaped chords because I didn't know about barring with your ring finger. Thank you~

  • im learning this stuff for the song layla

  • a good trick to do to see the middle finger bending back right... is to make the tip of your thumb and your wedding ring finger touch. and with the tip of your thumb apply a bit of pressure to a relaxed wed ring finger (at the top of the finger) and see that little bit of a bend.

looks right and good to help your form for this chord

  • I actually laughed at 8:55 LoL.

    Good job, man.

  • your very naughty

  • thx for bringing the theory-stuff on barrè-chords to us!

  • Where in London did you buy a lapel mic?

  • wow.. You're great! You really focus on the important factors of playing the guitar. Great for beginners (like me). YOu get in depth with it.. down tot he muscle! thanks! Rock on :)!

  • Wait, the way I learned it was that the high E string was actually played. So you'd be pressing down the A string and the e string.

  • JUSTIN WHEN did u get that tattoo on ur left forearm???

  • A shape barre chords don't seem like too bad of a stretch, so far.. I will say that it's easier for me to do using all 4 fingers than using only 2. That was a bit much for me right now, I guess.

Your lessons are the best, man.. keep it up.

  • And what if I want to play with all my fingers...?i can't make so big streches!

  • looks like a harder streach than e barre chords

  • nice jaguar in the background there

  • i cant bend my 3rd finger T_T" it wont let my kuckle change posistion lol

  • So, I didn't think about that, i feel stupid, and at the same time relieved!

  • Dear God do I hate A shaped barre chords.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! have been struggling with a buzzing sound when fretting an open A maj. You have just changed my life by suggesting forming the chord with the little, 3rd and second fingers! Cheers!

  • your wrist looks a little bent here. in your last video u said keep it straight. just thought i would point that out. keep your wrist straight

  • God I hate A shaped barred chords :p. They've always been messing with my fingers. I've been playing on my own for 5 years or so and I master most of the different shapes, but A really was a pain...in the bottom. So thanks Justin for telling me to mute the lower E \o/

  • thnaks justin...good video. finnaly understood barre chords. :D

    one question,

How to create barre chord for E note using e bar shape and A note for a bar shape then ?

  • lmao technology is awesome

  • thx this really helps =]

  • ahh... so you mute the bottom string

ive been trying to bar the A shape and let the E string ring

    my finger says thanks J

  • Justin you champion, thanx for the lessons

  • Hi

Your lesson are so helpful, im progressing slowly but would be alot slower without your help! anyway!

On you video 101, you said that that finger next to your little finger has to be slightly bend when doing the barre chord, i find this really hard as my them top joints of my finger are stiff and not "double jointed". what can i do???

    cheers!

  • thank you very much justin, i'll start playing guitar soon, and you're going to be a big help to me, thank you.
