I play the Bb (Bd,D,F) with the moved A shape, until it becomes impossible higher up the board due to space, generally with a full barre across, all 6 strings, then you can play Bb/F or Bb, and the bottom string(F). The guy who teaches my kids is able to do this shape or the movable A shape. but his finger is so flexible/deformed he's able to barre the 3,4,5, without touching the bottom string.
Thanks heaps. You have been a great help. I always wondered why my hand hurt...lol. I haven't been playing for long and I will certainly be changing alot of my bad habits...lol. U ROCK...i will be subscribing and practising good habits. Cheers from NZ
I created an account just so I could comment to say thank you so much! Your video had exactly what I was looking for. This particular barre chord had been very difficult for me, so I had been ignoring it until now. Thanks again and I'll be practicing.
why do i have to mute the low E-string and the high too? Isn't it the same like the type with all fingers if i play he 6th string too (type with the 3rd finger)?
please make a video for bar chords without using some fingers. I have a serious problem, my pinky finger was cut off at the tip so it's really painful to use it. It's totally screwed. I need some help learning chords without using normal technique and am running out of solutions. advice?
Man seriously, thank you SO much. I've been looking for like, a week for a video like this. Not only do you teach how to play the chord, you give some tips and tricks to make it sound better... but you obviously already know that. Anyway, yeah. Thank you so much.
wondering if anyone can answer this question, but i have a book that has the A shape withe the 6th low E string muted, and the high e string fretted by your first (index) barre. On this lesson he mutes the high e. Also google A-shapes and you'll get the same thing described in the book. Does anyone have an answer?
The A major chord consists of A (which is the root) C# (which is the third) and E (which is the fifth). You have to play all this three pitches to have A major chord.
You have E on G string 2nd fret, so is up to you if you mute high e string or not. The other way you can play this is to mute G string and not to mute e string. These are just different voicings of this chord.
But the important thing is to mute low E string unless you get inversion.
Justin or any one....Im finding this barre using my right hand third finger tough but Ill practice...however it sounds kind of dull anyway even when I get it right with all four strings ringing properly.....should I practice strumming only the four strings? This is as hard as fingering the barre...help
I am not able to get this A shape bar chord. My ring finger just won't bend and thus I mute the lower two strings together. I am just not able to mute the high e alone. Is there a way I can make that finger more flexible? Will this come with practice or is there something with my finger structure that will prevent me from getting it right?
a good trick to do to see the middle finger bending back right... is to make the tip of your thumb and your wedding ring finger touch. and with the tip of your thumb apply a bit of pressure to a relaxed wed ring finger (at the top of the finger) and see that little bit of a bend.
looks right and good to help your form for this chord
wow.. You're great! You really focus on the important factors of playing the guitar. Great for beginners (like me). YOu get in depth with it.. down tot he muscle! thanks! Rock on :)!
A shape barre chords don't seem like too bad of a stretch, so far.. I will say that it's easier for me to do using all 4 fingers than using only 2. That was a bit much for me right now, I guess.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! have been struggling with a buzzing sound when fretting an open A maj. You have just changed my life by suggesting forming the chord with the little, 3rd and second fingers! Cheers!
God I hate A shaped barred chords :p. They've always been messing with my fingers. I've been playing on my own for 5 years or so and I master most of the different shapes, but A really was a pain...in the bottom. So thanks Justin for telling me to mute the lower E \o/
