lol my tsx does the exact same thing! shop said it's just the transmission making that noise. when I give ppl a ride, they're like "what's that noise? it sounds cool.." im like yeaaa it's a supercharger whine LMAO
My friend has a 2001 Honda Accord V6 with 289,000 miles on it and her car makes the same noise at any given point throughout the rev range. Mechanic said it was just a noise that the transmission makes and is perfectly normal.
Yes for some reason the early 2003 pilot and some 04's did have a whine similar to a supercharger. Definitly it was corrected by 2006 and on. I have an 07 and not a whine to be heard. My brother in law has the 2003 and it is the same whine. He also has over 100K. However I remember the whine being there from when he got it.
Our 2003 Odyssey does the exactly same noise at the same RPMs but only on D or D3, it won't whine in D2 or D1... I also researching for a fix... Let me know if you figure it out other than replacing the whole transmission since is crazy expensive...
Yeah I just hit 110k miles today, replaced the tranny fluid still the same noise, honda still thinks to replace the tranny, I noticed some hesitation when pressing and depressing on the gas, but its been doing that since I bought it.. Been hearing posts that it could be the tourque converter. Everything works no codes, or leaks or vac leaks. the VTM-4 works, tried it this winter for the heck of it.. Who knows anyone have a fix yet?
@livetoextreme there isn't really a fix. the pilot shares a similar transmission with the odyssey and the 2000 to 2004 models have a transmission defect that has something to do with overheating of the trans causing fluid to go bad quicker. our odyssey has 150,000 miles on it and has whined forever. every now and then you might see a gear slip. its fine though.
@StuntDoubleTheatre honda just wants you to change your trans early and spend money. keep the trans till its dead. take that pilot on the highway and floor it and itll shift and move great im sure.
my 05 does the same thing. i'm curious to find out if it's something bad, but from the comments, it seems it's normal. sometimes i just pretend i'm driving a transit bus, because that's what it sounds like.
yo its not only the pilot. i drive my dad's 2002 odyssey and it has the same issue. I figured it was normal since we've had this issue since we got the car in '03.
my chevy S10 does the same thing. the speakers whine until you get to like 60. so i was messing around looking for the problem and i found out my alternator was slowly burning up. until yesterday it finally gave out. so i have to go get a new alternator today . you might look into this. hope this helps!
Yeah I tell everyone its a supercharger! I guess its common in these 2003 honda pilots, I dont know why they dont recall them.. The pilot drives fine.. I'll just keep it till the wheels fall off, Ive never had problems with it, except for my BRAND NEW Audi breaking down all the time, gotta love german cars!!
I have a 2003 Pilot, 126,000 miles, with the same issue. Transmissions are obviously a weak point on these.

I finally replaced the fluid and torque converter drove it for about 10k miles and seemed to do ok with no whine noise, sold it and bought a new BMW.

Your pilot has become jet powered.

i sent it to service and they said something about the ABS being locked up
and they replaced the whole wheel bearing and brake

It's quite simple...SUV's are not designed to be racecars!

My Sebring does this, are you sure should it be a problem?
chrysleristhebest1 9 months ago
@chrysleristhebest1 I wouldnt worry about it unless its unnecessarily loud
davakidnique 7 months ago
Respond to this video... Its called a gear whine which comes from gears moving at high speeds and such
