When I saw Kermit with the picture of Jim Henson in the shot, and Kermit is looking at everyone, I go teary because Kermit represented Jim watching them all.
If you watch the new movie, you'll see that even if they didn't have the rights to actually use it... the entire movie is based around it. There's at least four or five places they could have put it and had it not be out of place at all; it *is* the message of the new movie.
Which tells me, more than anything, that yes, a little bit of Jim lives on in all of us.
I just want to point out this is the only youtube video i've seen with 0 dislikes... maybe it's corny for me to say but i find that really heartwarming
why can't kids today have something like this? let's trash this generic pop crap that's overtaking the radios, movies, and TV and bring back stuff like this. thumbs up if you agree!
what a great song, very inspiratonal, I wish TV was this good nowadays. Alot of people say things like this are corny, but that shows those people are just sad people.
And when a kid tries to run away in today's world,(or even suggests it) they want to pump the poor kid full of drugs because of some obscure psychiatric term that they've painted upon.
I was born six years after Jim Henson died. Although he was gone when I was born I knew who he was and what he did. I watched Sesame Street, The Muppets, and Bear in the Big Blue House. And as I am going through Middle School and soon to go to High School in August, when I hear this song in my head, I immediatly get motivated. I grieve at your loss Jim. I wish you and Walt Disney the best up in heaven, and God Bless You.
i had watched the muppets all through my child hood. i was born after he had died and had no idea. the creator of this wonderful show that made me happy through christmas, sitting with my family and unwrapping presents. i'll never forget the first time i watched his christmas show. RIP Jim Henson <3!
*trying not to cry* This song always makes me cry. I wasn't even alive when Jim died but I still grief the loss of him. He and his work has always been a highlight of my childhood. All of his characters have and always will be something for everyone to love. They, although through crud comedy at times, taught some good lessons. And it wasn't just the muppet show either. Everything that he ever did has touch so many people that he and his characters will never die.
The composer of this song is Larry Grossman. He originally composed it for the Snoopy musical, but he also used it in Sesame Street. Grossman was also the main composer for Sesame Street.
It's affective that it's Robin who leads the song in the tribute. He remembered. I can just imagine what Steve Whitmire must have been going through playing Kermit for the first time at the end of that special. He must have been emotional, terrified at the same time.
@AuburnRed1 If I remember correctly (I was 12 at the time), at the end of the special, it 's Brian Henson that voices Kermit. The only time he's done some. Steve is actually puppeting Bean Bunny. After that, it's been Steve the whole way for Kermit. And yes, you're right. Robin remembered. :) "Take what you got and fly with it!"
Lessons in life via Sesame Street and the Muppet Show.
Learn to accept. "It's not easy being green."
Learn to give. "Just one person>'
Learn to be compassionate and above all be aware of your surroundings.
I am 66 years old and have six children who grew up via Jim Henson and I remind myself every day to do the lessons above. am happy to be able to do so.
Thank you Jim for all of the lessons you taught and still teach.
wow i love Bernadette Peters, she such a fantastic entertainer, i love that shes a water sign just like me, i love this song an the muppets, wonderful*) thanks for postin)
This is absolutely one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It may be a matter of opinion, but this song should have been on Disney's House Of Mouse as well. Then it could have had all your favorite characters like Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Jiminy Cricket, etc. singing it. I also remember hearing it in Snoopy: The Musical.
Everytime I see Kermit walked through that door. I picture Jim walking in suprised and then happy with a smile on his face watchng his creations honor him.
I wasn't even born when Jim henson died I was born 2 years arther Jim died but do love this song and I want to be an acterss and a singer and maybe work the muppets someday.
if i could say anything to you - Jim, thank you for everything you did, for the love you've been sharing with us. Your work will be inspiration forever, inspiration to change for better. And it's so beautiful, that whenever we watch vids with Muppets, there are so many positive comments, so many people still remember, still love; guys, you're all amazing:)
I was to young at the time to realize jim henson and his work. But as far as I can remember I've been a muppet fan. And... I'm not ashamed to admit it, when the muppets read those letters before they sing this song I cried. I'm a 21 year old guy and I cried because of the muppets. This just shows how amazing this show actually was. Who else can make such an emotional moment with a puppet? Henson was the man and he played a HUGE role in my childhood...
...I know in my heart I'm not the only one doing this fight and been touched by his work, so here he stills lives among so many of us and it is our responsability to do our part "take what we got and fly with it!" for the sake of creativity and entertainment! Thank you for posting this and thank you Jim for moving some of us...
I'm like in tears! He died before I was born but I grew up watching The Muppets with my Mom.And Bernadette is brillant as ALWAYS! I love her.I can understand why it's his favorite.
It was first performed in Snoopy! back in the mid-70's. The song's writer worked on The Muppet Show later and pulled it out of the trunk to use there.
Jim Henson died before I was born (i was born the same year he died), and I didn't even know that the Muppets went on without him. It wasn't until I was a lot older than I even knew he died. I think it's amazing they've kept it so long, just like he would have wanted.
Jim died when i was about four and I can't believe most of my childhood was without him, but I am glad his creations continue to inspire and entertain and educate children.
This makes me cry each time, a lovely song and a fitting tribute to a great man
Steve Whitmire took over kermit after Jim Henson. Jim personally chose Steve and trained him up. Steve also does the voice of ernie, bean bunny, sprocket, wembley, foo foo, beaker, statler, lips, rizzo the rat and many many more. He is one of my favorites :D
@ljks1 I adore Steve Whitmire. He's so diverse. I mean just listen to Rizzo the rat and then his version of Kermit the frog. So completely different.
Oh, this was most definitely before he died. It's from "The Muppet Show"--I don't remember which season, but it ended about ten years before he died. But this song was one of Jim Henson's favorite, I believe, but don't quote me on that.
The skit with Bernadette Peters WAS before Jim Henson died, as the FIRST poster, rolos, said. It was from The Muppet Show, Season 2 Episode 12, one of my FAVORITE episodes. This video then SEGUES into the tribute they later filmed to Jim Henson—two different performances from two different decades. The Muppet Show part is from 1977 and the tribute was aired in November of 1990, six months after his death. No need to be rude, ashie.
my mom got the same illness that year as it was wide spread, she barely survived. the muppets arn't the same now they don't have the same campy charm that even fraggle rock still had. sad really sad.
It is. I see them today and see them the way they used to be and think "Well...I'll just think of it as they've 'grown.'" But the truth is, I miss how they used to be so much less commercial and more just zany and warm. But they are still totally open-hearted--no matter who you are, you're cool to them!
I've loved this song ever since i was a little girl, and i've always wanted to meet the master muppeteer behind it all. He passed away when i was just four. Its a shame, because had he survivved his illness hed only be 71 today. I missed the muppet show by about a decade but i still know every single one of those charachters and grew up with Sesame Street. God Bless you Jim, after 20 long years you're still sorely missed. Rest in peace.
i listen to this every monring at work to start off the day... there is a lot to be learned within the philosophies and art of jim henson.. RIP jim, ,richard and jerry
