The orchestration of those albums is magical.

Sotu is their first album where you can feel very heavily tge absence of Alan Wilder.

Sak, glad you enjoyed the album, and you summed it up well with the last sentence. I am not giving up on Depeche, just saying this was not a paticular favorite even after listening several times. I thought wrong was a great song, and had an edge to it, so it really got me excited for the album, but it felt like a generic dm album. its like going in a restaraunt that you love and getting a bad meal, doesnt mean i wont go back, just wont order what i had before.

sorry everyone i have to say although you all do like it and i dont oppose opinions, and being a fan of depeche modes for 25 years, i have to say i just cannot stomach this album, i even feel that the poor production and filler album exciter was better than this album. this is the first album of depeche that i have never and will probably never own. i have listened numerous times and feel they could have done alot better especially following up playing the angel which was great listening.

That's an amazing song. I think that SOTU is quite hard to understand but if you love depeche mode and the way they produce music, you'll love it. "Fragile Tension" it's the best track of teh album for sure

Sure. Apart from "Wrong", most of it sounds exactly like The Cardigans or Smashing Pumpkins at their worst. The supposed analog synths come off as cheap softsynths. The songs have no substance. The lyrics seem forced and recycled.

That instrumental tune is a direct rip-off of a 20+ year old far superior song by Logic System. "Peace" rips off both Kraftwerk & The Beatles, yet it's utter crap. Dave's singing is adequate.

Only reason this album sells is due to the hype and nostalgia factor.

Hi!, I am a DM fan since many years ago and I am not liking the new songs. I don´t understand why it´s not accepted being CRITICAL, it´s a constructive criticism because we are true fans. We´ve been listening to DM records for a long time and now feel "let down" because it is not what we would spect. The uncompressed album version of this track feels very different in the chorus. This youtube version is a clash of sound in the chorus. Not so the album version which has a floating synth sound balancing the guitar.
