@amers83 That era of pop music is mostly gone. The way they used synth to not just make pretty good music but some of the songs had a very haunting mood set. It wasn't just Winwood, Peter Gabriel uses this to great effect and even some RnB songs into the mid-90s had it.
I remember this was used in the first episode of 21 jumpstreet when Depp(Tom Hanson) walks into the church for the first time. When I bought the dvd it had been replaced with some scrub song, along with other great 80's tunes used during the shows run..I guess they couldn't afford the rights!!
i remember being a little girl, going through my parents albums and coming across stevie winwood, and reading the lyrics to this song and just feeling so enchanted by this song, and then hearing the very beginning, sounds like you're being whisked away by a knight in shining armor, very whimsical song.
@mediterraneanqueen also i have to tell this story, as i stated above, this was a time when both my parents were going through addiction, drugs and alcohol, i was a kid, about 11 or 12 and i'd go down in our florida room and listen to their albums, and again this song just stuck with me for a long time, i felt like there was hope, the music just kind of took me away from all that hard family stuff. so thank you stevie winwood and all the other incredible artists out there that took my pain away.
Great music with great lyrics. Sadly, they don't make them like this anymore. Today's stuff is junk by comparison. Sorry if people don't like to hear that but it's true!
One night while playing the Lone Star Cafe, N.Y.C. with Jr. Walker, my friend Steve Ferrone brought Steve Winwood to see me play keyboards. When I got to the gig Jr. wanted me to play guitar. They came to the dressing room to talk to Jr. about playing on this album, but Jr. refused as he's done so many times in the past, except Foriegner, whom I had talked him into doing their record. Anyhow, Steve was so inspired he played a grest solo on the end of "Finer Things" , thats all Jr.& Finer Things
This Song takes me back to my childhood days, when I was 6 years old . It is a beautiful composition, that brings back, old memories and calms your mind. Thanks Steve for this wonderful song
I remember.. my dad worked on the project that created the TouchTunes, a digital touch screen jukebox. We had a bunch of fun 80's songs like this on there, and we used to listen to it every Saturday night and just... have fun. I remember this song. I remember being frikkin eight years old.. listening to this, laughing and having fun. That's what this song is for me. ^^
I want this song to be played at my funeral. I think of laying in my casket while the beginning notes play.

Mr. Winwood's voice and his songs were made for lovers --"let's go out and try everything." Only real lovers would dare to go forth and enjoy life.
