He’s declaring his disdain for organized religion. Not failure in the area of faith. What makes a believer redeemed? Does it have anything to do with smoking, lying and cursing? Selah (think about it!)
if you're living, you've not failed. failing maybe?
if the sermons and so on never got to you, maybe you are a pre-Christian, not a failed one.
since there is nothing to accomplish in becoming a Christian, how might one fail?
Or, are you just looking to tear the rear-view mirror as well out of your cracked windshieldmobile, and thereby escape all responsibility for your choice - then, now and later?
