I would argue that no they would not be where they are today if they stole all of their music. And in response to your claim that they did not write viva la vida, that is one of my least favorite Coldplay songs as I prefer their first two albums the most. There are claims that Led Zeppelin stole Stairway to Heaven, does that make Led Zeppelin a horrible band who deserves no recognition for their music? In my opinion, I would say it does not.
