  • Has this been edited to delete "Under God"???!!

  • @roxy11tpb If you note, Red tells the story about the pledge. Before the 1950's, the words "Under God" were not used. During the Eisenhower administration, Congress voted to add "Under God" to the pledge. The graphic that shows up near the end where the principal has the class join him is how the pledge looked prior to the 1950's change. Thanks for the comment.

  • @variaxguitar A few degrees of what? We could be as far away as 3.0AU and as close as 0.75AU. That is a huge section of the orbital plane. Not very precice for the almighty if you ask me. Also the original writer of this pledge was a christian socialist. The original salute looked very similar to the Nazi salute so it was changed to the hand over the heart.

  • OK, the most misinterpreted Amendment in the Bill of Rights is the 1st one with ""Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion". I believe that the founding fathers didn't want America to have a state sponsored religion, like the UK and the Church of England. It did not establish that law to Neuter religion in our government. Religion is one of the backbones of this country, and many of our founding fathers were men of great faith.

Any way I look at it I see - LETS TRUST THAT GOD CAN WORK HIS WILL and IT"S BEST WE KEEP OPINIONS OF HIS WILL OUT the business of the nation.   • I am so tired of atheists being afraid to say "Under God" . God can be who or what ever you want him|her to be. I"m not a big believer in Christianity but I also don't deny people to use the words "Under God" in the pledge. If you don't want to use those words when it comes to that part then just leave them out and leave the pledge and other people alone.

  • "One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all". I wish the pledge would be changed back to (this), as it was originally written. By adding the word God it only divided our nation. Atheism may be in the minority but it is continually growning. I thought that our pledge was supposed to reprsent all of it's citizens including minorities. Our country protects religious freedom why shouldn't it include & respect those who do not worship a deity.

  • Thank you for your comments. I have grown up saying the pledge with "Under God" in it. I respect the views of others. I found that the audio was so inspiring, that I just had to do a video on it. The only way to remove "under God" is to have an act of congress. However, the Supreme Court of the United States, in their decision when an athiest tried to ban the words in the pledge said that the words are more symbolic than stating that this nation is Under God.

  • I too grew up saying the pledge with the words "under God" but now that I'm over fifty years old & so much more aware of what is going on in the world around me, I feel that a pledge to our country should show unity instead of division amongst it's people. The pledge, written by Francis Bellamy (a Baptist minister) wrote it without the word God. He was a man of God yet he knew the importance of keeping religion and government separate. Red Skelton was obviously of a different opinion.

  • As I said Red was of a different opinion and always ended his tv program with "God Bless". I respect anyone who wants to believe in God and is religious as long as they don't force their opinion on others. I am for making this great country of ours even greater and want everyone to be united in this effort. Thanks for posting this interesting video & for respecting the view of others.

  • @sisterwitch1692 The words under God were added not to say we are a religious country but to emphasize the historical fact that this country is founded on the beleif that our rights are given to us not by man but by "a" God and therfore can not be revoked by man. To give up this part of our heritage would be to give up our "God" given rights.

  • @TheNewsJunky2009 The words under god were added as an anti-communist affirmation. Our rights are not god given but man given. Man decides what laws to pass and what rights individuals should have based on what is good for society. How can we be one nation under god when many people do not believe in a god? Our pledge should be "one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all". This way it includes everyone not just the god believers.

As a matter of law regardless of whether or not a God exsist our rights are God Given, read the constitution and other founding documents the highest law in our Land. -- We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness

Remember, It is men who wrote the constitution and men who wrote the words "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights". These men impossed their belief of a creator into the constitution. One can not say that our rights are given by god when there isn't even any proof of god's existance. Like I said, for 62 yrs it wasn't important to have under god in our pledge.

  • @TheNewsJunky2009 the original pledge was written in 1892 and it wasn't until 1954 that the words under god were added. For 62 years it wasn't important to have the words under god in our pledge; I wish those words had never been added... religion only devides people.

  • @sisterwitch1692- YesYesYes- PLUS, shouldn't it seem curious to believers who say "under" God ?. I remember thinking- " Whaat ??-- isn't everything UNDER God ? ".. Even now it still seems awkward and oddly similiar to adding "God willing" or "Allah be thisor that " at the beginning and end of sentences for no appearent reason. Probubly it is entended to stress that the 'OneNation' part is somehow secondary or dependant upon the "UnderGod" part so that it is clear there is a kind'a escape clause.

    Eisenhower said when he signed the law adding "UG"

    it was obviously added for religous reasons..decidedly un-American for the gov to promote religion

  • I was in the USAF from 1973 (I was 18 at the time) to 1980. I am a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

    I'm a veitnam Vet and repect our flag for what it stands for. the great thing about this country is that we have the freedom to disagree.

    I disagree with President Bush and believe that the BIG 3 auto companies should have been allowed to go into chapter 11. However, the though of that happening was too much so we, the taxpayers bailed out another bunch of failing operations. If Toyota, Honda, and Kia can to it they should be able to.

    Thank you for your comments. I agree that the America that we knew is now in the hands of a liberal president elect and a liberal congress. Our rights will slowly be erroded. We are going to become a Nanny country and not as strong as we once were. Iran and the other countries that wish us ill are licking their chops. God protect us.

  • The mis-spelling does not detract away from the intent. You and I all have the same resposonsibility whether you spell better than I , that this country is to be goverend by us and not goverend to us by those who speak better than I do.

  • This recession is going to bring a lot of people back to good old fashioned values. Hopefully they will find that they exchanged their compassion, patriotism and good character for greed. Young people today don't know what it is like to do for themselves. Americans have always done for themselves and each other. That wasn't done with money. It was done by reaching your hand out to your fellow American.
