The fact that middle age was known as Dark Age speaks for itself. Only after the Crusader Wars and the transaction of Arab books to Europe did the Renessance beggan. After that the Europe started to woke up.
The only thing more annoying than people who over-romanticize the Medieval Era are those who feel the need to go around to every single Medieval-related YouTube video and explain again and again how hard life was in the Medieval Ages.
Amazing slide-collection, but only the west & center Europe, why not include the (european cruisaders) castles in Syria, Israel, Cyprus, Malta. Why not the spectacular "kremlins" of the russians cities?
@italokid80 my dear there is no european cruisaders castles still stand in the middle east except one in Jordan because they were destroy in wars during the Muslim conquest of the holy land. But there is a lot of amazing Islamic castles why not include them in the slide-collection.why not include the ancient castles in Syria,Egypt, palastine and other arab countries of the middle east which have long history with civilization and wars more than europe which was live in the dark age
ya but wher is Peles and Pelisor castels (romanian) two of the most beautiful in Europe.... and wher is Bran castel (still romanian) the castle from which the legend of Dracula was born ....
@Aaronmogi Medievil period is a historic era that was spread all over the world. England was not so important at all at that time, center of power was Italy, specifically, Vatican and the Pope. Christian Church had an influence on almost all european countries. And other non-european cultures had their peaks in medievil period, such as Turkey which, in fact, tried to invade Europe (and partially succeded!), countries of Far East and South America. Did you even have HIstory at school?
yah yah, i know about the history of the Church in Europe. I live in far east, i know the history here as well.
I just thought that the word "medieval" itself only describes the situation at that time in UK. And other countries in Europe had their own "medieval era". Because i am confused about the period in Europe, you have so many periods, like dark age, renaissance, baroque, classic etc.
Almost every comment on here says that people want this life. Whats stopping us from having it? Why cant we take the good things from that era and bring them to this one? Why cant we merge the cultures to make something magnificent? Im being serious here!

Well you dont think do you, I would choose these times over ours any day, of course if you where out to hurt other or take whats not yours then you would be punished, but who wants to do this and be punished, the appeal of the past is the freedom my friend.
I dont think you understand that being executed for stealing bread at the age of 13 in those times was a more fulfilling and free life than most men have known for almost 500 years.
@AuditoryIllusionist Really now? Because of how justice was carried out people wouldn't want to live back then? One should not commit those crimes either way, the punishments were more severe though all the more reason not to commit them. Though on people wanting to live in other terms, the Medieval Ages are cloaked by much fantasy thus people think of how those more privileged lived rather than those in slums.
@hasseo1 In breaking down what one means to wish to live in medieval times, what you has some merit. And you are correct, no one should commit crimes either way. But tell me this...Have you ever saw the 11:00 news where an individual was released from prison via DNA results or some other exonerating evidence that did not exist in 1000 A.D.? This is ten times better than that awful music I have the misfortune hearing where I live. This goes straight to my favorites. Wonderful pictures of castles as well. Splendid.
This is my sex music...if by sex you mean me and my girlfreind standing opposit one another fully dressed in medieval attire gently slapping each other with handkerchiefs.
@ariel17222 Oh you better don't want! It's dirty and smells bad everywhere, the people are just aggressive and never ever heard something like washing in their lives! you had to work much harder than today, you even did not live long cuz of that! There was war everytime, cruelty and hunger. The Church was the centre of everything... you don't believe in god? Well, then you're dead very soon. All your life you focussed in reaching the heavenly kingdom. Well, not my favourite time o.O
@ariel17222 Seems romantic but it was a very hard era, disease and hunger was part of everyboied life, there was no middle class, you were in the top of the social scale or in the lower, unleast you become a monk, there were abusive lords take rob you from one side, there were an abusive and corrupted church who also robbed you and control your mind and soul, people born miserable, lived miserable and died miserable... there was no freedom
@icasas72 Obviously there were bad things going on, corrupt rulers/churches/disease/hardship/hunger/etc, but there were good things as well, good rulers/churches/arts/music/chivalry/etc. It's not black and white, all awesome fantasy land or horrible tyrants ensalving and killing left and right.
Also, in most times and places I would argue that there was a middle class, be they rich merchants, craftsmen, minor nobility, or other well-off folk. There were more than just royalty and peasants.
@icasas72 Is true, always I read in these videos, some person who says " i´ll like to live those times ... " the truth is that not stand even an alone day XDXDXD
@icasas72 I've tried to tell people this so many times. They say "The world is so bad these days, everything is so awful". Haha . . . take a look at history. We are doing much better now, but there is still work to be done to improve humanity. I do however find it funny that a lot of this music seems to have a . . . "happy" tone. You can feel the strife . . . but the hope in it at the same time.
@ariel17222 Although I share your love for the Medieval Ages, I wouldn't be foolish enough to live in a time of dictatorships under tyrant kings & Popes, a life of diseases & without much education.
They don't call it the Dark Ages for nothing, you know...
@Prophet4YAHWEH Sure they do. The "dark ages" was a title forced on the medieval times by renaissance scholars who were trying to make their time seem more enlightened. Needless to say, they succeeded. Modern historians vehemently disagree with the renaissance scholars though.
@Dorkus89Malorkus Agreed, however, you can't ignore the fact that disease, ignorance & tyranny were the order of the days during the Middle Ages. As much as I love the beautiful Medieval Times, I can to concede that I probably won't be able to last there for more than a week. So just enjoy the Medieval beautiful castle, music & arts in our times.
Do we all know one another or NOT??? It seems to me some practice selective memory. ~Oh I see some merely only relate only as far as the International smorgasbord only merely to feed the GULLET Aye?
@lohengrinnk I knew it, hungarians make best music... when you just look at my grand grand grand uncle Arthur Nikisch for example.... great conductor, hmm.. n this music... exquisite, magnifique!! :)
Hah! This is the best yet. Once again you ignore what I say and bring up my being an American. I may be American, but I can bet I have traveled farther than you. I've been to over 30 countries throughout my life, including your precious Greece, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia, what have you. I can say surely enough I have seen more ruins than you have. I'm majoring in European history at the moment. So though I don't speak Greek and you speak (poor) English, I do have better credentials.
Oh! So no one who lives in Italy is descended from the Romans! And you are sure that Greeks are the true Romans? How sad. I dare say you were descended from one of those barbarians.
How typical of a Christian. Ask us to read all of your sources before we argue with you. That's not how it works. The simple fact that you view the pre-Renaissance West as "barbaric" shows me how ignorant and narrow-minded you are. You view your native "Romania" as a wonderful and perfect land that has been decimated by those "evil" "barbaric" Franks who stole all your glory. You are an idiot. I will not read YOUR sources just to see your bias and hypocrisy.
Judging from everything you've said, it seems you're only point is that you hate the Franks, and you consider the Western Roman Empire to not be the Roman Empire. Maybe you missed that small event when Constantine decided to split his empire. Sorry, but the Italians are just as Roman as you. You are still Greek. And sorry, but those evil Franks happened to beat your ancestors pretty badly and take their entire city. You lost. History is written by the victors.
I never once sweared at you. I am amazed at how many irrelevant and completely random points you continue to bring up. All I stated were the general time periods that the middle ages took place. You seem to be obsessed with the H. Roman Empire, the Greeks, and the Ottomans, NONE OF WHICH I ever brought up. You also seem to believe that your sources are more accurate simply because you speak Greek and I speak American, which is bullshit.
By the way, since you looked at my profile, I took the liberty of looking at yours. You seem to believe in a God. That alone shows me how ignorant you are. Belief in any religion is a perfect sign of ignorance of the world around you. How sad you are. Please, have fun arguing with the millions of historians who will continue calling your ancestors Byzantines, without a care in the world what they called themselves.
At the end of the day, it is irrelevant what I choose to call cultures. I call Russians Russians, not Rooskayas, and I call Spanish Spaniards, not Espanyas. I can call Greeks Greeks and I can call Byzantines Byzantines. You are a nationalistic narrow-minded hypocritical moron. I never once mentioned Charle's Holy Roman Empire, nor did I mentioned the Justinian's Byzantines. You began this by conjuring up lies out of thin air.
You speak Greek, so you are more intelligent than me?
You call me an "ignorant" (nice use of nouns), then refuse to respond to me due to my "insults"?
You argue on the technicality of that name "Byzantine", which has absolutely NOTHING to do with what I argue, and I NEVER mentioned Charlemagne (which, while we're on the subject of names, is NOT Charlomagne, as you say).
You're an idiot. You deny the split of the Roman empire, you call the Byzantine empire a "lie", and the rest of your sentence makes no grammatical sense. Just because you cannot speak English, does not mean we are ignorant of anything. Please stop holding yourself above anyone else.
Charlemagne came after the collapse of the Roman Empire in the West. Renaissance generally refers to the cultural rebirth that occurred in the Italian states as a result of wealth accumulated from the Crusades in the 15th century. The sacking of Constantinople really has nothing to do with what I was talking about. I assume English isn't your first language, so I'm guessing there's just some kind of misunderstanding here.
"Medieval"(middle age) generally means Collapse of Rome -> Italian Renaissance. Dark Ages is a term many historians dislike using, as, though there were many dark patches, there was no age that was really completely "dark". That would refer to the smaller time period from around 500-800. There was plenty of culture and innovation before the Renaissance.
This is not the type of music want! ;) ...i need something ruff and barbaric for inspiration because im writing a story about the dark medieval ages...
no seriously, the music is very nice! and nice fotos, too!
thankfully, this music has been preserved for us to enjoy. yes, it would have been thrilling to live back in those time; however, the downside is, the majority didn't live that long!
I wish I could go back to these times: The time of the Aztecs, Maya, Inca. Ancient Greece, Rome, Crusades, Vikings and mostly anytime before 1492 in the Americas cuz thats when everything went downhill for us. And anytime before 1600 in Europe because then they invented guns......
Thx for your comment! You can call it Renaissance (these songs are basically from the period 1490-1526) - I agree of course, but the question is (as I wrote it earlier), what we can call medieval? Renaissance is an other era or just a part of the late Middle Ages? Apart from the answer, this music is beautiful and gives sth to our heart.
@lohengrinnk Renaissance is period between the dark ages/medieval times and the baroque period, .. living was poor, people were poor, people got the black plague, also there were wars and people killing others out of religion, thats why its called the dark ages, and Renaissance means re-birth,
@lohengrinnk I agree all these musics are from the Renaissance period. It is very easy to distinguish a medieval and a renaissance music. Renaissance period was time for Polyphony and harmony. Medieval was not. Medieval was period for monophony and first attempt of accompanied melody by simple process (bicinum, organum, conductus, discantus, ...). You have no more than to listen.
@asako92 Thx for the comment! I know the renaissance and the other periods, but as I wrote it earlier, there were many different opinions from historians too. I always travel, try to discover new places, countryes. I spent two weeks in Carcassonne (and nearby) this summer, it is really enchanting.

Beautiful video with impressive castles and music !!
we particularly love the song starting at 2'54 : "Tant Que Vivray" by
Claudin de Sermisy (c. 1490 – October 13, 1562), French composer of the
Renaissance. Along with Clément Janequin he was one of the most renowned
composers of French chansons in the early 16th century; in addition he was a
significant composer of sacred music. His music was both influential on, and
influenced by, contemporary Italian styles.

icasas72 8 months ago 21
@icasas72 That knowledge came from watching movies lol?
toposs1234 3 months ago

VITOLLFOTOGRAFIA 2 months ago
@icasas72 What would be known as miserable to us was not for them. Look at it through their own eyes. The concept of "freedom" did not exist.
michoo13 1 month ago

Prophet4YAHWEH 6 months ago
@Prophet4YAHWEH not that you can choose when or where you live..
fosyl 6 months ago
@Prophet4YAHWEH Sure they do. The "dark ages" was a title forced on the medieval times by renaissance scholars who were trying to make their time seem more enlightened. Needless to say, they succeeded. Modern historians vehemently disagree with the renaissance scholars though.
Dorkus89Malorkus 6 months ago
@Dorkus89Malorkus Agreed, however, you can't ignore the fact that disease, ignorance & tyranny were the order of the days during the Middle Ages. As much as I love the beautiful Medieval Times, I can to concede that I probably won't be able to last there for more than a week. So just enjoy the Medieval beautiful castle, music & arts in our times.

Kloborgg 1 year ago
@kyrpap1981
Oh! So no one who lives in Italy is descended from the Romans! And you are sure that Greeks are the true Romans? How sad. I dare say you were descended from one of those barbarians.
Kloborgg 1 year ago
@kyrpap1981
Kloborgg 1 year ago
@kyrpap1981
Kloborgg 1 year ago
@kyrpap1981

@kyrpap1981
Kloborgg 1 year ago
@kyrpap1981
Kloborgg 1 year ago
@kyrpap1981
Kloborgg 1 year ago
@kyrpap1981
You're an idiot. You deny the split of the Roman empire, you call the Byzantine empire a "lie", and the rest of your sentence makes no grammatical sense. Just because you cannot speak English, does not mean we are ignorant of anything. Please stop holding yourself above anyone else.
Kloborgg 1 year ago
@kyrpap1981
I have no idea what you're trying to say.
Kloborgg 1 year ago
@kyrpap1981 Why are you reposting the same comments numerous times?
And what exactly are you trying to say? I tried my best to understand but couldn't.
As an Orthodox Greek, how do you view the Vatican & its crimes against Orthodox Christians?

After listening to this i suddenly realised, that Wolf&Spice used REAL medieval music for OSTs.
Gotta rewatch it. And do not believe those, who say W&S is "romantic" or "about love"
It is about Medieval economics and trading, trust me.
Racoon42a 1 year ago
"Medieval"(middle age) generally means Collapse of Rome -> Italian Renaissance. Dark Ages is a term many historians dislike using, as, though there were many dark patches, there was no age that was really completely "dark". That would refer to the smaller time period from around 500-800. There was plenty of culture and innovation before the Renaissance.

Thx for your comment! You can call it Renaissance (these songs are basically from the period 1490-1526) - I agree of course, but the question is (as I wrote it earlier), what we can call medieval? Renaissance is an other era or just a part of the late Middle Ages? Apart from the answer, this music is beautiful and gives sth to our heart.
lohengrinnk 1 year ago 4
@lohengrinnk Renaissance is period between the dark ages/medieval times and the baroque period, .. living was poor, people were poor, people got the black plague, also there were wars and people killing others out of religion, thats why its called the dark ages, and Renaissance means re-birth,
witchcraftlord 1 year ago
@lohengrinnk I agree all these musics are from the Renaissance period. It is very easy to distinguish a medieval and a renaissance music. Renaissance period was time for Polyphony and harmony. Medieval was not. Medieval was period for monophony and first attempt of accompanied melody by simple process (bicinum, organum, conductus, discantus, ...). You have no more than to listen.

End of middle age is around 1500, after this period we call it renaissance :)
if u like that and are not far from France, i suggest you to visit a city( castle ) called Carcassone.
It s a huuuggee castle in the south unchanged from middel age and all the city is still there, people living there =)

@asako92 Thx for the comment! I know the renaissance and the other periods, but as I wrote it earlier, there were many different opinions from historians too. I always travel, try to discover new places, countryes. I spent two weeks in Carcassonne (and nearby) this summer, it is really enchanting.
