This brings back some memories... I had a blue 77 Malibu Classic and I installed the 75/76 Laguna opera window louvers painted to match the color of the car which made it very unique and quite stylish and they fit without any modifications
I LOVE DA CAR JUST BOUGHT ONE LAST WEAK STARTIN TO RESTORE IT HAVIN PROBLEMS FINDIN A GRILL AND REAR BUMPER....GLAD TO SEE ONE FINISHED...THE CAR IS OLDER THAN ME BUT IM A OL SOUL
my dad once had a 1976 chevy malibu "OLYMPIC EDITION" i wish we still had it, cus iv looked around and cannot find them anymore. i loved that car and it would of been my gift for my 16th birthday if it hadn't been junked. so sad it had to end that way
Nice car, man. I have a '77 myself but I like the stacked lights personally. Don't give up hope if you want to make it fast, I've got a roughly 450HP 350 in mine with a 383 build in the future. Given some time and effort, these are very fast cars. GM got the frame and body right and had the gas/insurance issues not ended the muscle cars, these would be legends over the 2nd Gen.
Todd, your 77 is Simply Gorgeous bro!..I had a 77 myself..Mine was a Forest Green, with the tan vinyl interior. It had the 305 in it...The car had balls! I miss my baby!...
That's clearly a classic. My step dad has a 74 Chevelle Malibu Classic and a 76 Malibu Classic. He doesn't like the 76 and 77 header panel so he put on the 73. 76 and 77 header panels just look ugly. Nice car man!
hey dude, awesome malibu,i used to own a 77 malibu clasic landau,it had the same color as yours but repainted it to a saphire blue,15 inch cragar all the way around, dual exaust, awesome alpine stereo system but factory engine, good running motor 305 2 brrl
i about to buy a 77 malibu for 6200, and its practically in showroom cond. 350 looks just like the one in this vid. my only concern, is that it didnt start up right away, how concerned should I be? any experts out there? fair price?
ok people.... so many people seem to know so much more about my car than I do... I have had this car since it was new... this car IS a 77 Malibu Classic Landau.... it has been completely changed... it has a 74 front end, why??? because I wanted to change it!! I am so tired of people not reading earlier posts... i've already been through explaining thisstuff at least once...
are you sure its a 77?i had a 77 malibu classic landau, the original color was same as yours,is that the original front piece, thought 77`s had 4 headlites dim/high beam lites, mine had 4 headlights.
I had the same 77 malibu also.305 elderbrock 600cfm2.5 straight duals with $20 cherry bombs. Earl Schibe $199midnite blue(looked black) Took 1990's stangs from a 15mph roll(3.08,s rear) all for $2500Getting laid for the 1st time in that HUGE back seat PRICELESS! Round lites look 1974ish Chevelle I took dark headlite tints from a bronco, cut em to 4 squares and fit em inside the metal headlite retaining ring! One day ill do it again!sweet car brother.. Where are yopu from?
Thanks for the memories! My first car was 1977 Chevy Malibu Classic that I bought from my dad. It was blue like yours. Similar wheels, dual exhaust, 2 door. Mine had a different hood and just a stock engine.
purrin like a kitten. Brings back memories. I had a new 77 yellow and black with a black vinyl half roof and chrome trim. Had swivel seats and a big ole V8. New it was 3,800 bucks and lasted from 76 till 1987 when it threw a rod. Trashed it for 75 bucks
Awesome Malibu. Where did you get parts to redo the interior? Also the outside trim, etc. I have a 77 Malibu Classic 4 door and am having issues finding parts.
Wow!! I am so glad so many people know more about my car than I do..... I mean, after owning it for 32 years you'd think i'd have learned by now....
This IS a 77 Malibu Classic.... I got rid of the 4 square lights and chaged to the front end of a 74 El Camino with round lights... why? becasue I like them better... it my car... so I do what I want! this IS my 77 MALIBU CLASSIC.... stop doubting me people... and just enjoy!!
people aren't telling you they know more about your ride, people are just interested in the appearence of your the car and just because you've owned it forever there still things you will learn from other people.
I had a 1976 AND a 1977 2 door with STACKED SQUARE headlamps. We should take a vote.lol Stacked headlamps or singular round. The stacked square headlights give it some attitude. To get the most out of it, try to keep it as close to origional as possible. They looked PERFECT just the way they were when they rolled off the line with the rally wheels.
Im sorry Todd,i guess i was wrong it is a 77 ,i saw your other site on yahoo about your car,BUT WHY? did you remove the original front clip?????I owned a `77 for almost 25 yrs until i had to sell it out of dire straits, which i regret but cant change now.The 4 square headlights look awesome on this car.
its nasty! did you swap out the front clip? mine has the double stacked headlghts. they ran those round ones in some 76 models but you already know it im sure
My mom bought this car new and it came with the 4 stacked lights. I just liked the single round ones better. These are from a 74. They put round ones on base model 76 and 77 as well. Hopefully after the economy clears up a little I can get it painted. Till then it's gonna be like it is now... which really isn't all that bad in my opinion.
atleast you don't still have the 305 in it. My 1st car was my dad's 77' malibu and it was an awesome car, though the 305 did not do it much justice for wearing the name "chevelle"
Haham nice car! I have a 77' Malibu Classic as well, but not nearly as good condition. I love it though, the best car to drive in my opinion. I have the stock 305, with either 11000miles, or 21000 miles. Either way its still running great. Oh and mines RED. :D
The SS stripes are going away with the next repaint. It will be 2-toned silver on top and blue on the bottom. The front and rear swaybays are both 1-1/4" Hellwig bars and I got both of them on Ebay a few years ago. It corners like a sports car now!!
The hood is from VFN fiberglass and was around $450 and it takes them about 6 weeks to build you one. The console is from a 76 Cutlass. I hand built the center section and had the upholstery shop that covered my door panels cover it in matching cloth. I works great, you need some place to put real gauges when all there are is 3 "dummy" lights on the dash. Plus it keeps me from having to hack up the dash. I got the cutlass console on Ebay too.
The Impala SS was 10 times faster than the Malibu. The Impala is gone now. I sold it to get a new truck. The Malibu is powerful and fast but isn't "quick"... it's much more of a cruiser.
I had a sweet malibu for my first car, I threw hay bales all summer long to buy it. Man theres so many memories coming back from seeing this video! such a solid ride.
@todd77malibu By the way, have you ran it down the track? If so what does it run in 1/4? My step dad's runs 14.24. His is built like yours... very powerful and fast but isn't the quickest.
It depends on what scene you see in the movie. Sometimes it's a Malibu like mine, sometimes it's a Laguna, sometimes it's a Monte Carlo. All basically the same car, but the movie pwople didn't think anyone would notice... I DID!!
hey nice car.. i have a 75 nova that just got a new 350 HO in it. What do you think of yours, mine seems to be lacking a little, although i do not have headers.
Mine seems really strong to me. May just need some break in time. When mine was brand new it had allot less power than it does now. I think i have a couple of thousand miles on the new engine and it's getting stronger as it breaks in more...
I owned a '77 Malibu Classic in the early 80s. It had a 305, but it was powerful enough yet, decent on gas. Loved it.
The front on yours is all wrong, I think that's a 76 grill. The 77 had dual square head lights stacked on top of each other, and the grill had vertical bars not he honey comb of the earlier models. The wheel is wrong as well. They had the standard one piece chevy wheel with the horn in it.
"WRONG"??? We bought this car new in 1977 and it did come with 4 square lights. I have been dealing with all models of 73-77 Malibus and I know all of the diffs from year to year. My grill is a 77 grill with the vert bars painted black because they were faded. I changed the front end to the round lights from a 74 because I like them better. I know what year every part is from and that it looks exactly the way I want it to look. It's a street rod.. not an original restoration project.
OK, so I wasn't wrong and you knew what I was talking about. I just thought someone may have led you astray when selling you parts. They were pretty interchangeable. Those years mostly changed lights, 77 being the last of that breed and the one with the square front and rear lights. I didn't care much for the new configuration in the years after that.
i have a 77 chevelle malibu too but its still got the 305 but if my friend still has it hes goin to let me buy a 350 off of him and my retard friend says that its no better than the 305 but i know it is and i cant wait to drop it in there but thanks for postin this vid and send me a message to tell me where i can get parts for it thanks
