  • Dude your riffs are sick! just my style

  • @MetallicAciDD Thanks man!!!

  • The planet Venus goes through retrograde transits in the zodiac five times every eight earth years. Talk about Music of the Spheres! Think about that next time you play a piece of music in 5/8 time.

  • @TheWarrrenator I already do :)

  • 3 x 5/8, then 4/8 and then a full bar works out nice.

  • you live in ny by any chance? i want to work with you...that was a sick riff..i love tool and been playing for over 20 years and have played in very technical bands where 4/4 was odd timing for us..so let me know lol

  • @nycbassist76 Unfortunately I'm out in Cali. But the internet makes the world a small place. I'd love to see what you got!

  • @axeofcreation ok cool...we'll have to do something..i'll make a video so you can check me out a little

  • dood how many takes does it take per lesson for you to have a complete one without messing up or stuttering or something?? XD

  • you definitely have to be involved in some type of project man. if so let me know? and yes i love these videos you put up, thanks for the info!

  • @jtpb501 You can check out some tracks from my last project. I've uploaded a few tracks. Right now I am working with drummer Addison Kurt on a new project. Snippets of our material is in some of our joint lessons. We should be releasing some initial tracks in the near future.

  • @axeofcreation Addison Kurt, the guys from Punching Robots?

  • @Freezaen Yeah

  • I think one night of watching your lessons taught me more about composition than two years at university. :)

  • @cnmaster01 That's awesome. Thanks!

  • You better make a full song out of that end part. If you don't, the world is gonna end.

  • @dwasdwas1 haha, will do!

  • such an enjoyable riff at the end.

  • @freeradicals Thank you so much

  • You're in standard tuning right?

  • @levijaymz correct

  • you can play the saem riff 4/4 ... it'll just be polyrhythmed/snares in different places everytime around, making it more awesome XD

  • @krisszanczuk Yes!! How fun~

  • Schecter FTW

  • wow...i wish i played guitar...i can keep up with everything theory wise of what you're saying too...i write a lot of music so i guess the added rhythm theory counts...i just need a better staff type writing program (i write 8 bit music and post it here on youtube) or i need to learn tabs...but i am starting a band so i guess i'll learn anyway! :D

  • man i feel like i'm watching a video in science class lol but instead it's like "the science of metal" :P but god damn your good! i could never come up with something so brilliant!

  • @TheRed343 Awesome! Thank you, I'm sure you'll come with something!

  • @axeofcreation your welcome. and hopefully :P

  • awesome sound man! really dig it

  • @schwinn637 Gracias

  • cool poster. awful sound.

  • @schrammscythe insightful and constructive

  • I actually learned something on how to count in odd timing (123-12) in 5/8! Thanks

  • @horacioabraham Good job!

  • Very nice videos.

The first riff played slow and muted really reminds me of tool

  • cool poster.

  • "What's going on everybody?" Haha, that's your signature opening, but seriously these videos help a lot, thanks!

  • @DylTwentyFourSeven Ha!! Hey, it must be working. Thanks a lot!

  • Would you believe that in trying to learn time signatures, until this video, I still didn't get what the deal was? I'm a beginner bassist, and am both learning songs and technique - all the while, I'm like, "if I knew what the fuck this 5/8 meant, I could get a better feel for this!"

    Thank you so very much:)

  • @RezRez Your welcome!!

  • @axeofcreation No, seriously. I figured out what the entire thing meant, the whole x/y marker, which helped in me in learning the basic structure of a song - see, the whole thing had a 7/8, but I couldn't get what it would be as it seemed to stop awkwardly at one point. When I figured it out it was supposed to be 7 8th notes, I realized that the 7th 8th note kinda just 'spilled' over. Then it became easy:)

    So thank you for explaining.

  • Awesome work man! I'm actually a bassist in a prog rock/metal band, but this has been VERY useful to both myself and my guitarist. I've written some pretty compelling basslines thanks to this.

  • @OCMBass Very cool! That's what I like to hear! Keep the riffs coming.

  • @axeofcreation Do you play bass aswell?

  • @OCMBass Enough so support my riffs.

  • It's 3 AM now... I've been watching your videos all night. Even though I find most of the stuff you show really easy and simple, I still can't stop watching because of your awesome way of explaining things. Thanks for a great night dude!

  • @ParaDexul That's awesome! Thanks so much. Sounds like you need a challenge then :) How can I help?

  • @axeofcreation I know something that would help me is an overall composition video, cuz i can create orchestral compositions easily, but for some reason I can not apply the same theory to guitar.

  • @ipguitar I definitely plan on starting those types of lessons. Anything in particular?

  • @axeofcreation Definitely just trying to get smooth transitions from phrase to phrase and the different styles that you can put into a song, like how you can go from a prog metal/rock to blues and jazz to big band, weird particularities, yes, but its just something I have been trying to do this type of sound combo to try and break all of the monotonous music out there

  • @ParaDexul you just had a great night with a dude

  • I found myself a cool trick to discover 5/8 measures. A part in the Tool song Rosetta stoned, Meynard says 'Holy Fucking shit' a couple of times. that piece (and most of the song too) is in 5/8, so now I just say 'holy fucking shit' everytime I want to check if a song is in 5/8 and stuff.

  • @Reinoutify Yes! That's a great song for Meter practice. Constantly changing from 6 to 5. Great device!

  • I couldn't see the first riff you were playing but upon hearing it I came up with my own and understood the concept... Thanks!

  • @RaspberryJams69 Awesome!

  • Good video!!!

  • @Wallimann Awesome, glad you dig it!! I love me some odd time!

  • That was awesome, i dig the tune at the end!

  • @utubemoviesftw Thank so you much!!

  • your videos have yet to dissappoint me. Keep up the good work.

  • @twitch101994 Gracias senor

  • This was really cool, even though you make it look so easy that was a nice tune. Keep up with the videos.

  • @ZiobroV Thanks man! I'm glad you dig the tune. I hope you rock some sick 5/8 now!!

  • @axeofcreation that is a very nice tool poster, very trippy and nice work
