Looks not bad, I remember also very interesting program on Amiga called Symphonie. Was also quite innovative with lots of possibilities, but needed a bit more "advanced approach" to this I think. BTW> how comes, that some corporations are killing so much of good software :/ so is it when the guys in ties are taking command over sciencists, engineer, pasionate people...
I still have it on a "vintage" Mac G3 (beige) running OS9, there's nothing out there that can replace this great program. It trully can do somethings that many other modern sequencers cannot do today
I went with pro tools, but as far as midi SVP 4.5 blows Cubase away. It is just the easiest way to deal with midi hands down. Can cubase operate a light board, play midi and 12 tracks of audio at the same time?
There were many offers to purchase the software from Gibson. Gibson claimed that they had lost the source code. Today, I think their wold be a way to crack into the source code and some clever programers could make a new SVP. I am not a programer, so I have no idea how hard it would be to reproduce SVP for Snow Leopard or how many programers it would take, or how long it would take,
How do you propose we save it? At this point I don't think the source code is that useful. It would need to be completely re-written for OSX. It seems pretty simple these days to hire someone to make an iPhone or iPad app, so perhaps with some sort of crowd funded effort we could hire someone to write it in a Mac OSX native format that could read old files and have the same look and feel. The only new features I think it may need is running modern VST/RTAS/AU plugins.
Well, many studios are still using SVP for things that would take much longer to do on any of the modern software designed for midi and audio. SVP could still be a very useful product if the right people would upgrade it to work on modern computers and operating systems. Adding in all the features that are used in Logic and Pro Tools without changing the window and tools it already has.
What a lot of people don't realise is that Vision was copied quite a bit by the other seq co's, look at the arrange page, also they were one of the 1st to offer HD recording welded onto a midi seq.
I always wondered why Gibson did such a stupid thing. They could have sold it to another software firm.
Imagine how Opcode Vision would look on a mac now, if it was brought up to date...!
I will stick with Logic pro , but that was fun to watch and way ahead of its time , but really not better than what we have now ! and i wonder what professional studio's still use this that this guy who posted it keeps talking about ?
OMG this is so funny! I mean they're like 'do you know what a sequencer is? and what about that special and useful quantizing? ooooooo' xD I still find Reason & Record very promising, and Cubase is very professional but the setup is made a bit in the old-fashioned way in which you need to know how the hardware works before you can use it properly without getting lost
everytime i hear about this program i think of NIN's Downward Spiral. Used this program extensively along with turbosynth. That album still blows most industrial out of the water to this day.
Help improve a Free Software like LMMS (Linux Multimedia Studio) it´s verry similar. Open Source can save old software. Adding some features on this software to LMMS for example.
The only thing missing is the ability to use today's audio effects plug-ins. I recently purchased a G3 and I use it for Vision. When my song is arranged, I convert it to a MIDI file, then import the MIDI file into something like Digital Performer on my Mac G5.
By the way, MOTU's Digital Performer is the closest thing to Studio Vision. Its predecessor, Performer was Vision's chief rival in the 1980's when both were first made.
I have been using Vision since it debuted in 1988. Without a doubt, Studio Vision (and Vision) are the BEST sequencers ever made. Those who never used it simply don't understand the beauty of being able to record sequences in patterns and link them with ease... and the ability to put patterns within patterns within patterns... or you can lay a song out like all the lame sequencers out there now.
I'm proud to say that I've been using Studio Vision on all of my compositions for many years, and hope to use it as long as I can. But, since the developers have all gone on to work for Apple, Digidesign, and others, is there really that much of a push to bring back Vision and OMS when you can run a perfectly good system with some old Apple hardware that can be gotten for cheap? There's no need to save Vision, it's still here! The best sequencer Ever! Amen!
In the video he's recording several tracks one after the other without stopping the sequencer. I think the latest version of studio vision (4.5?) can do this, but it's a bit convoluted.
I like the gui layout of the old vision. 4.5 has overlapping windows and they're a pain in the arse.
I have studiovision! It's still available from some website - download for free.
It's the best gui sequencer I've used, very flexible. In combination with my old unitor8 mk ONE its unstoppable, and tighter than any new computer. New midi sequencers pale in comparison.
@zig2b23 the Vision software does not contain any sounds. You can use it to control external MIDI sound modules and keyboards through a MIDI interface such as the M-Audio 2x2 for the popular Midiman devices. You also can buy sounds that support the VST technology and play them from within your computer without a MIDI interface. I hope this helps.
Did you read the whole story? This is the only video of the product that was developed to be Studio Vision Pro. Gibson still owns the software. PROBABLY too late, but it is still used in many studios today. The audio is way out of date now, but it is still the best and easiest way to make music via MIDI. Nothing can touch it even though it was canned 9 years ago.
SVP remains the best MIDI software sequencer ever created. Professional studios all over the world still use it for sequencing MIDI devices of all kinds. The BEST feature of SVP is the ease of use. ANYONE could jump right in and lay down tracks like a professional with out cracking the user manuel. Pro Tools, Logic Pro and Reason can do everything SVP can do in MIDI, but have a VERY high learning curve. Gibson (who killed Opcode) reported that they lost the source code.
I got cubase and reason,..my question is,...where can I get the hotest, newest samples, sounds, sample librarys and vst plugins,...I need new sounds you know,..thank you
This is better than FL Studio (Fruity Loops) because it has support for actual music notation. I FUCKING HATE that about fruity loops. It is potentially the greatest program ever but then they leave that out? How are real musicians supposed to use FL to their greatest potential? FL Developers = idiots because of this.
Does anyone know of any free software thats good for doing rock drums on i don't have space for a real drum kit. Any information would be greatly appreciated Thanks!
This is probably still the best music software but after Gibson Guitars purchased OpCode, it was no longer supported. (I'm talking about Studio Vision Pro.) It can still be run on a dual-boot Power Mac using system 9.2.2 but not OSX.
I know, I HATE that nothing can be done about this. I still use the SVP with an aging machine, but it does everything any of the newer programs do an much , much more. Try operating 3 synths, a midi controlled lightboard and playing 8 tracks of stereo sound at the same time. I run entire productions , lights, sound and MIDI controlled synths, curtains, house lights and anything else that can be controlled via midi.
Looks not bad, I remember also very interesting program on Amiga called Symphonie. Was also quite innovative with lots of possibilities, but needed a bit more "advanced approach" to this I think.
