It's OK hate a version of a song, but not to hate people for playing someone else's music! The Clash couldn't have done "Police & thieves" if Junior Reid had your aggressive, over-protective attitude to cover versions. The Clash showed that people from different backgrounds don't have to hate & fear each other, but can combine forces. This included playing each other's music in their own way. P.S. I'd like to hear it played by a highland pipe band, in a tiny room full of people pogoing.

you do realise that Junior Reid had nothing to do with Police and Thieves eh? Do your research buddy. Any Clash/punk/ska/reggae or dancehall fan knows that the original Police and Thieves was written by Junior Murvin and Lee 'Scratch' Perry, recorded and sang by Murvin and produced by Perry.

OK, thanks for letting me know I mixed up the Juniors Reid and Murvin, although you weren't especially polite. To me, a fan is simply someone who likes a band's music, not necessarily someone who researches a great deal. I only commented to point out that because the Clash covered Police & Thieves, it seems odd for a Clash fan to seek to "protect" Clash songs from being covered (however the covers turn out). Covers can be terrible, but they can also be fun and interesting.
