toyota corrola is the way to go .... i owned an all electric car for a couple years. Thing sucked. And wasn't cheap to deal with, and inconvenienced my life. Hybrid car was way too expensive. The only alternate vehicle (besides a motorcycle) that I thought was great and totally worth the money was a Segway.

Do us a Favor, If you can't afford a hybrid car, go buy a yamaha Motorcycke for $5000, they get better gas mileage than they do on hybrid, why, because there lighter you can push it and even lift them, my friend has a Yamaha Motorcycle and he's getting 65 MPG, he takes it to work every day unless its raining or its too hot, he would take it to work every day.

The price of electricity is not affected by Hybrids, they generate their own electricity,using the braking power as a generator. But your right, manufacturing the batteries is not exactly environmentally friendly. Someone here said the hybrids are gutless, which is not right either, the electric motor has significant torque ratings, the cars are extremely peppy off the line.
But there are little gas powered cars that get mileage nearly as good.
Hybrid is a Piece of SHlT because my parient reciently had to replace the battery in a honda Civic hybrid and it cost them $5000. whats worst about hybrid is that is powerless gutless and the backseat is very unconfortable, hybrid cost $6000 to $11000 more than the regular gasoline cars. Go with a Honda Odyssey EXL, or a 08 Toyota Camry there fuel effecient and cheaper than hybrid and you get more room and space than you do with hybrid. I'll never own a Hybrid.
yeah and gas is so much cheaper than a battery. I don't remember replacing my battery as many times as the gas and I use the battery alot more than the gas. I also don't remember seeing anyone choking on battery exhaust.

5 years 80,000 miles later? The batterys have anywhere from an 8 to 10 years warranty on them and they do not cost $5,000. Most batterys are expected to last the life of the car. That is unless the vehicle you drive currently only gets 15-20mpg overall. If I were to buy the car i want (VW Jetta TDI) My fuel savings would be around $180 a month. That's $2160 a year. In my opinion that more then justifies buying one used for around $12-$15k.
My hybrid gets 50mpg which cuts my fuel costs in half. The price of the car is comparable to the price of the car I would otherwise be driving. I've found that it also forces you to be more mindful of your consumption and you end up driving less. Also, hybrid cars generate their own electricity--why would it effect electricity prices? I haven't looked into the recycling issue yet so I can't comment. All in all, it's a viable short term solution until better alternatives are realized.
Non hybrid economy cars can get 50mpg and cost a whole lot less. The 1985 Honda CRX HF can easily do 50mpg...with a carburator..23 years ago. The 1978 Rabbit Diesel was close to 50mpg as well..30 years ago.

I think you've overlooked the matter of personal preference. I never said everyone should drive a hybrid. For me it's a great solution. I didn't overpay if I got the car I wanted at the going rate. If anything, with demand exceeding supply, I got a good deal. The point is, if I'd bought a cheaper car I wouldn't have gotten the car I wanted. You can't quantify peoples' tastes.
But banning SUVs isn't a solution, SUVs are very useful here in the illinois winters, Ground clearance, 4x4, room, and rugdness. We shouldn't ban anything, what we should do is continue to advance our technology into something that will completely not run on Oil. Not make a vehicle that adds 20MPG to what average SUVs and Sedans run on these days. GM is working on a vehicle of such caliber, and so is Honda. So chill down, it's too early to start banning anything.

The price of electricity is not affected by Hybrids, they generate their own electricity,using the braking power as a generator. But your right, manufacturing the batteries is not exactly environmentally friendly. Someone here said the hybrids are gutless, which is not right either, the electric motor has significant torque ratings, the cars are extremely peppy off the line.
But there are little gas powered cars that get mileage nearly as good.

Hybrid is a Piece of SHlT because my parient reciently had to replace the battery in a honda Civic hybrid and it cost them $5000. whats worst about hybrid is that is powerless gutless and the backseat is very unconfortable, hybrid cost $6000 to $11000 more than the regular gasoline cars. Go with a Honda Odyssey EXL, or a 08 Toyota Camry there fuel effecient and cheaper than hybrid and you get more room and space than you do with hybrid. I'll never own a Hybrid.

Yes it is quite a bit bigger than the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Honda Insight and it has a lot more power. The 2010 Toyota Prius gets better MPG than the older Prius. It is rated at 51 MPG City and 48 MPG Highway.

I am pretty sure that we have a greater supply of oil then the statistics tell us. Why? - The government wants your money and they will do anything to convince you to do so. Air quality though is real. So perhaps even if the government scams you at least you get to breathe fresh air with your environmentally friendly car.

Do hybrids really save energy? The extra cost of manufacturing, maintenance, and as Bob said battery replacement, all add up quick.
Plus it does not make a whole lot of financial sense to blow $20k to save $50 a month in gas.
Oh, and hybrids really don't get any better millage then any other economy car..mainly because of the additional weight of the 2nd power train.
Changing the way you drive the fully-paid-for car you have now will save more gas then anything else you can do.

That is unless the vehicle you drive currently only gets 15-20mpg overall. If I were to buy the car i want (VW Jetta TDI) My fuel savings would be around $180 a month. That's $2160 a year. In my opinion that more then justifies buying one used for around $12-$15k.

My hybrid gets 50mpg which cuts my fuel costs in half. The price of the car is comparable to the price of the car I would otherwise be driving. I've found that it also forces you to be more mindful of your consumption and you end up driving less. Also, hybrid cars generate their own electricity--why would it effect electricity prices? I haven't looked into the recycling issue yet so I can't comment. All in all, it's a viable short term solution until better alternatives are realized.

I think you've overlooked the matter of personal preference. I never said everyone should drive a hybrid. For me it's a great solution. I didn't overpay if I got the car I wanted at the going rate. If anything, with demand exceeding supply, I got a good deal. The point is, if I'd bought a cheaper car I wouldn't have gotten the car I wanted. You can't quantify peoples' tastes.

We shouldn't ban anything, what we should do is continue to advance our technology into something that will completely not run on Oil. Not make a vehicle that adds 20MPG to what average SUVs and Sedans run on these days. GM is working on a vehicle of such caliber, and so is Honda. What are your solutions? What reason is there for you to drive up to the top of a mountain? I'm sure we could figure out somthing. The point is that we need alternative energy. But first and foremost we need to ban SUV's - or at the least put a heavy tax on them to discourage ownership. Then we need to focus on fuel efficient cars. The 1996 Geo Metro got almost 50 mpg. And look at the TATA. Thats what we need. Small affordable cars that get 50 mpg. THEN we can explore real alternative energy.

Actually, apartment buildings are more energy efficient that smaller buildings. Each person in the building uses less energy for heating, cooling, etc, because it is shared.

OPEC need to produce more oil at a faster rate, but why would they since America is there enemy. Technology here in America could produce Electricity at a faster rate keep the price within reason. The laws of supply and demand dictates short supply = high price. America surround by water and can use new technology to produce electricity from alternative sources. If its such a good idea then why didn't the republicans do it while they had a majority. Alot of politicians that oppose drilling offshore are republicans. I support the drilling.
