The last 4 rounds of Rogers Matagwa V. Juanma Lopez was worse than the sixth round of this fight.

i remember that one i thought the fight should have been stopped after the 7th when smith was hitting him with bombs and he didnt even have his legs.. good vid

Fascinating analysis vid.. Crawford did look out of it half way through the fight. Difficult one to call though because he made it all the way to the 9th. He survived for a long time so it's possible he could learn a lot from that fight.

it's also likely he suffered a severe concussion for No reason

It could be possible, I haven't seen the whole fight but judging by these clips he was almost matching his opponent punch for punch in the 9th round, he was throwing almost as frequently as Smith. I think the ref let him continue after the last knockdown because he knew the round was about to end in seconds, he heard the end of round clapper during the count. He was probably giving Crawford time to recover in between rounds, I think that was the motive behind his actions.
