my mom said she was going to london and told me that i could go too and i told her "i don't give one care what we do or what we go to in london but i am going to the one place that i will walk bare foot on-ABBEY ROAD!" all she said was ok
Hm, lol, the Beatles not only made this an epic road, but also a safety hazard. People posing in the middle of this road, lol. Hey, I would risk getting hit for that. So epic.
I went past there today. The locals & people who work round there think the tourists are sad sad sad people, holding up the traffic & being a total nuisance. The zebra crossing (not 'crosswalk') in 1969 was slightly to the left of the one you see today. I'm not going to say to WHOSE left, but none of you were/will be walking in anybody's footsteps, it was/will be a waste of time.
@MsGnorts The talk is that that Westminster City Council has plans to remove the crossing because it is a safety risk. You can see people obliviously posing on the crossing while traffic waits to get across. Had the Bs posed at a kebab shop, public lavatory or bus stop these places would be shrines too today. Enough of the empty iconography already I say.
Let's just enjoy their music, that is more than enough and see the crossing in the Abbey road album. Anyways I'd say the Abbey Road they knew was not so full of traffic or maybe that picture was taken on a sunday I don't know.
The Beatles made enormous transfmations to the music world but i'ts time to move on: Even Mccartney sounds so, I'd say silly still singing the ol' songs he having been a Beatle himself. I think Lennon was more mature in that respect and even Harrison. Lennon once stated that he has already at certain point in his life outgrown A hard day's night.
@MsGnorts Yes, Macca should have stopped doing music around 1980 or even 1970. Lennon's material in the 70s was more Indie, less commercial, some people love it others hate it. The 2009 zebra crossing fest which you can see on Youtube is just an exhibition of almost an alternative belief system, some very sad people holding their LP exactly the way a bible or icon is held by an acolyte for a priest to look at. Terribly emply & sad it was. There probably was less traffic in NW8 in 1969.
@dutchgoing ...well said!! the beatles were from 40 years ago. Let them fade away gracefully!! The old people keep saying they were good, but they dont mean anything to me. Nice little pop songs, but not a lot else really!
@coltsuperocean10 Well they did invent the modern pop genre with a number of variations of style and content over a number of years. Very few bands have that ability to give sustained & original output & helped to define and drive a particular era, long before the era of the 'icon'. The music will probably never fade away but Lennon/Mc Cartney were washed-up by the 70s really & should have done other things by then, today's iconography is as empty as the digital re-master age we inhabit now.
The crossing has EVERYTHING to do with music. Without music no one would be walking over the crossing.
The crossing is in EXACTLY in the same place. It has not loved. at all. It has been made slightly wider, like a few inches either side, and the zig-zag lines painted in the road. The kerbs were lowered fro wheelchair access.
I crossed it last year and believe me, there's a line of people there. LoL! But the drivers on the road were very nice. They know that it's something of a pilgrimage so they're use to it and stop for however long it takes.
Why'd they add the zigzag stuff?

I like the Beatles but this crossing syndrom is a very silly waste of time, I agree.

Listen to St.Peppers for your "Nice little pop songs" LOL!
The Beatles were not washed up by the 1970s. They all went on to have successful solo careers. They split because of personal differences,

I live yards away from the crossing. The locals do not think the tourists are sad at all. The tourists are there all year around, even in the snow.
The crossing is mainly in the same place.

@NearAbbeyRoad Fair enough. I know some who don't like it. It is pointless iconography, nothing to do with music really.

@sigu655 They have to stop when somebody is on the crossing or wants to cross. That's the law.

I always stop, you have to by law if someone is on the crossing. I wave to them to say take your time.
