What do you think about flash memory versus miniDV? Has the quality of flash improved enough to go that route over miniDV? What editing software do you use? It's July, 2010. What camera would you recommend now?
@EZeeWriter I'm going to be testing out flash memory and hard drive in the next month. Just waiting for the equipment to arrive. I'll let you know. At a guestimate, I would say they are probably excellent. What I will have to get used to is backing up files on externals rather than just keeping the Mini's. Software is Sony Vegas Pro 9. All of my equipment is Sony. I would probably go with the Hard Drive. I like the capacity.
but other than the NEWER line of camcorders Sony has released which are HDD camcorders, there are not MiniDV camcorders than can ZOOM further than 20x except the HDR-HC3 and HC5
i LOVED their HDR-HC3 and HC5, but they both have 80x digital zoom. I'm using these camcorders for automotive events, therefore i NEED the extra distance with the zoom. are there any options to 'further' the 20x digital zoom on the HC9?
G/day JCV dude I was thinking to up date my camera to a sony HDRHC9 I am editing in Final Cut Pro, Will the HDRC9 load straight to Final Cut Pro or would you need to convert file formats, Hope you can help, Regards SowandPigs
I simply go with what works. Sony makes great equipment, but Samsung has great stuff at reasonable prices. It's not that it's necessary to have great equipment: you need great skills to use them to their fullest potential.
Having said that - I'd love to have that camcorder.
What is the resolution of the slow motion funktion and can it record slow motion in 16:9?

There's a 1.7 tele-converter. The problem with digital zoom is that it doesn't always give quality video.

10x optical and 20x numerical. this is not a big zoom ;)

from tape, you use firewire, you copy directly into big .avi files. then you can edit them.
