Sooo... thats what? A 180 THOUSAND dollar 9 foot Steinway? Why dont I have one of those again??? I'd gladly sacrifice a large portion of my living room for lack of a better place to put it
@fadethetrade It's written ALLEGRETTO! This tempo is PERFECT! Look at MY VERY FIRST YouTube video; it's at the bottom of my YouTube page. Read what I wrote in the description as well. =o)
@careyeOhkey beethoven would prefer alot of his sonatas to be performed a trifle faster. Sorry thats my understanding from prominant musicologists and world pianists I've spoken to and listening to beethovens pieon sonatas,I agree.I prefer them a little faster, especially this and moonlight first movement is always played too slow.
I really dislike it when pianists put on a show. Shaking your hand doesn't bring out the melody any more. Their playing should be beautiful enough to entertain no its own.
you may dislike it but there are others that would prefer to see the visuals, just to understand how powerful yet beautiful this song is. When I see pianists "put on a show" sometimes it helps to understand, and it makes me listen closer.
awesome - this is how the tempest should be played, with passion and emotion but no unneccessary showmanship. i'd love to hear this pianist play more beethoven (and brahms!!).
JohnDoerrie, that's what I was also wondering. Maybe he's a smoker and he needs a cigarette. He also seems a little intense. So maybe it's time for a smoke. lol lol
Personally, Mr. Shihor has done an excellent job in his interpretation of this song. I'm no expert in music, but I have enjoyed this piece tremendously than other Beethoven Tempest interpretation of some other famous world-renowned pianists. Good Job, I hope you come to New York!
Perfect tempo. It doesn't need to be any faster than this...Beethoven marked the movement Allegretto, not Presto. I like this interpretation because he brings out nuances in voicing, colors, shaping of melodies, etc..there are a lot of repetitive elements in this mvt but the pianist makes it sound fresh and interesting the whole time. Well done!
Hehe, youre right. Although what does it really matter if it sounds exactly the same as the 3rd and 5th bars? Either way, you can always blame nervousness. After all, he is playing in front a full sized audience. Something not many people can boast.
This is the funny thing though; I didn't notice this until tonight. My video response has been up since last summer, and I come back to this video periodically noticing this "glitch" now. I think it's YouTube, because I recall a bit of a pause before this movement began in the past!
Lovely performance. This movement has been compared with the release of the spirit, Ariel, by his master Prospero, in Shakespeare's Tempest. I like the pianist's interpretation.
Very moving performance!! Kept the theme out front throughout, and with grace and bold Beethoven fire! The tempo was almost perfect for me! I would speed it up ever so slightly; however, I prefer this tempo to many who just want to fly through it without the experience.
this is what i call interpretation

Too slow.Too many pianists play Ludwig too slow.I know ludwig would want his sonatas played a little faster with less staccato.
