  • just take a look at other Dave Grusin vids here on youtube - sometimes there are even more dislikes than likes! it's a shame how some jealous people try to ruin his reputation.

  • 102 dislike ?????? Haha! jalous persons or something like that !? By the way this is the original version disliker lol .. Dave is a God for me ...Amen!

  • 102 personas no saben lo que es la buena música

  • awesomeness check this video , the opening sequences of this osng are inspired from Memphis Stomp Hello Mr.Ethirkatchi

  • This is great stuff by Dave. Worth hearing several times in a row.

  • i dont get why dave grusin has so many dislikes on all his vids...wierd...

  • @paisteguy799

    Ikr

  • This almost sounds like New Orleans funk. I like it. It's the dynamics and phrase shaping that really make a good pianist. That's where the story is woven.

  • Great!

  • How can there be 100 dislikes for this? It's so unbelievably good (and infectious)! Makes me feel good like almost no other music will... in spite of what a pitiful pianist it shows me to be, heh.

  • I've been playing for years & realized long ago that their exists a precious few who were born with a predisposition for playing, often they do not practice. I know this to be fact. For example Shawn Lane, a gifted guitarist (now passed) was an increcible player but to the displeasure of his band mates, refused to practice because; "it ruins my spontaneity". Go figure.

  • @1954tele Well they practise to get to their level. A member of my family was a very successful session musician who started very young and after practising for years, learning scales and how to sight read music by his early 30's there was no need to practise because he was playing every day.

Nobody's born with the knowledge needed to play an instrument, they have to practise.

  • WHY ARE THERE 100 DISLIKES? JUST, WHY? you people can fuck off. you're envious, fine, don't just go hitting the dislike button on videos like this for no reason...

  • Adoro essa musica, e digo que so por ela já valea pena comprar o CD do Dave . Comprei original sim, porque o cara merece . ABracos

  • organistguy: You've got it right. As far as 'technically perfect' this is the best Youtube Grusin. But, for a change, try the 'live' version by Dave on Youtube. It's not as technically perfect (he's older now) but the 'soul' in it will blow you away!

  • i can play that :D

  • No body. I repeat, No body exacts from all 88 keys a piano has to offer than Dave Gruisin. If you can't groove to this, tap your feet, or in your mind - well, your'e deaf and need a helping hand from God Almighty. And I surely hope you get that in your lifetime, because this is one of the best!

  • I remember when the movie The Firm came out, and this song was in it. I stayed 'till the end of the credits just to listen to it. Its just so perfect!

  • nobody gets that groove with the memphis stomp. only the old father dave himself!

  • 88 likes, 88 keys. :)

  • 0:34 he makes the piano sound like a phone ringing...very apt for the firm

  • Great composer!!

  • I guess it's played on a keyboard. You hear that on the low (hammered) tones. I think this hard keyboard sound is intentional, right??

  • @thomii1983 Don't think so... guess it's a real piano, maybe a yamaha with percutant and deep basses... and recorded with a meticulous reverberation. Incredible groove!

  • oh gosh, after every time i play this my wrist hurts so badly. it's like the ultimate working out for piano.

  • i played this song for my highschool talent show and it brings back such good memories hearing it...

  • Got sheets. Pm me, if you want it ;) Btw it ain't that hard, no offense, but played it when i was like 11-12 years..

  • copied by AR Rehman in some tamil song

  • Check this tamil song: ?v=4kt_YUWaJ2Y

It is by Oscar winner Ar Rehman. Sounds quite similar.

  • i love playing this song on piano its fun!!!

  • i have the sheet music and can email it to anyone interested...freeeee of cost:) drop in ur e mail address as reply..'ll take it from there:)

  • @rautsumeru

Please send it to me (mrblackkeys@verizon.net). Thanks.

  • anyone fpund full sheets?

  • @CuxyBG I found them at musicnotes for $5.75.

I can't play it like this yet, though! I'm playing it much slower and trying to learn.

  • My friend got carpal tunnel playing this song because his fingering was wrong haha. God healed him though so its awesome! He loves this song.

  • ... I simply LOVE this piece!!! I have been playing it for some time now, and the hardest part is getting the groove right!! But i WANT to be able to play it :p

  • Fantastic play

  • I just saw Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour at the Hollywood Bowl this week with John Scofield, Taj Mahal and Keb 'mo. This was one of the songs Dave played, and it was just outstanding.

  • Just awesome

  • can anybody tell me other jazz pianists that sounds like this please?

  • you are my hero, you won;t believe how long I have searched for the score on youtube.

  • The best movie and most inspired music for a film with lawyers.

    Dave is a wizard...

  • ich spiel das stück grad, is ja nicht so schwer vom notentext her, aber in der geschwindigkeit und trotzdem so klar!!! echt verdammt gut gspielt! wer steckt denn hinter der tollen interpretation?

  • Goddam I wish I could play like that.

  • @TheLibertyLion I think we all want that

  • hell yeah!

  • @8BoogiePianoWoogie8 Damnn,, I'm practicing this the whole day and now I can only the first 8 seconds...

  • GREAT!!!!!

  • i really like the piano sound!

  • This is by far the best rendition on YouTube!

  • It's the original...

  • @organistguy that's because it's really Dave grusin playing it

  • Played this in my class today and my kids were mesmerized... LOVE this song =)

  • Excellent performance !

  • man i love this song. i just got the sheet music last week n i already know the first page. GREAT SONG!!!

  • amazing!!

  • I would like to know around 3:00 to 3:15, how he can sustain the low f while playing an non pedal sustained ostinato, with both hands. Its in the ending when the track fades out. Maybe this was recorded with overdubbing?

  • Grand pianos has this feature that the middle pedal you can sustain the first tones you pull down and let the tones pressed later not be affected by it. Grand piano is very different than a normal upright piano :)

  • @SteffenMoll That is not true in all cases, top end upright pianos also have this feature. For example, the Kawai K-8, although it is one of few that has this feature.

  • @sleigh93 My Yamaha U3 also has the middle pedal, although I've never used it. Will be soon, I love this piece. xD

  • the middle peddal on a grand piano only sustains what you play just when you hit the pedal. hard to explain.

    - he pushes down the low f same time as he pushes the middle pedal and then he can play what ever he want unsustained. try it yourself. not shure how good i am at explaining.

  • @magicmrmadman Middle pedal.

  • I've been like a maniac listening to this all over and over again! Wonderful! Thanks for posting this!

  • @sjkoa it's still on repeat

  • Thanks for posting this - it tried to buy the song from Amazon, but it wasn't possible. I just bought the sheet music, and now it just cant go fast enough learning it! This is the superior performance, good to learn from.
