beautiful cars, but ya know what Id really like to see some people do? Id love to see some people who build new age rat rods, not just traditional rat rods, but ones with the same meaning. As in..cars you can buy today for several hundred dollars, and slap together to be cool, low, and fast. It dosnt matter if the welds arnt perfect, or bondos covering parts of it, because thatd be part of the character. Im sure someones dones something similar, I just havent seen it yet lol

Why "id really like to see what some people do?" Why not do it and start the new trend yourself??? Many, many of these cars were built by people who previously had no welding experience, but used their car to learn the skill, so don't be afraid. So your welds aren't right, and you got bondo covering spots...

the reason rat rods and old very old cars can stay rusty like that is beacaus of the alloy of metal they used , after a certin point the rust cowagulates wich meansthe rust clogs its sel proventing it to rust any further.

other thing is, you need to ask why these cars look like they do...if yur building a car up slowly it might spend lotsa time in primer etc - thats where my XB 351 coupe is at the moment - black primer - and lotsa people like it that way. For me, rat rods are like an ultimate expression of the `still working on it' vibe - at least you know ur dealing with a gearhead. If you don't get it, and only like em if they're shiny, then maybe thats cos you've not really built anything with ur own hands...

While "low buck hot rodding" is a good idea, too many of these so-called "rat rodders" go to the trouble and expense and chopping, channeling, and pinstriping these cars (or even painting those corny fake speed shop graphics on the doors), but then don't even bother sanding or even rattle-can painting the thing....they just leave it full of primer and hideous flaking rust.

There's nothing "cool" about being too lazy to build a car right.
