ivysaur scares the shit out of me. with its vines and stuff. plus I had to fight it GIANT and then it got a mushroom that makes it even bigger...woo i was scared
@DondonSF Thanks Dondon! Hey I haven't seen Pants around in a long time on youtube. Do you happen to know if he is still around? I wanted to also ask if you play Wi-Fi in Brawl?
@Timothy2035 he moved to New Zealand a while ago but we still keep in touch,I also haven't played Brawl in a while but when I get my Wii back I can try it out.
I wasn't interested in an Ivysaur combo video, but the title "Combosaur" was funny enough that I decided to watch it... And I'm amazed. I knew all characters had potential to be godly, but I've never actually seen such an incredible Ivysaur-player before. Too bad it can't be mained by itself, since it gets tired midway through the match and switched when KO'd. Overall, great job.
it sucks how charizard, squirtle, and ivysaur dont really have an down b move if you main in one of them. thats minis one move right ther so lol but overall pretty good for ivysaur lol
Still pants is god-tier Ivy, no matter what anyone says.
There's still a nice few tricks in there, but like someone else said, uair shouldn't be used to build damage... Fair, not really a big deal since it doesn't kill for a long time anyway. Get people off the ledge, insta-tether, and gimp them repeatedly. Watch for fast fall Uair openings, fsmash openings (it's honestly not THAT bad of a kill move, you should be saving it), and if you can sweet spot an up-B, go for it.
you do realize this video is almost 10 months old. the metagame obviously would have changed
This video is not meant to show Ivysaur is top tier its just shows Ivysaur has alot of pro's that ppl overlook because they are to concerned with his recovery.
hmm...not very impressive. =/ Your ivysaur isn't bad at all, but this doesn't make much of a combo video. . .6 minutes, and the first 2/3's of the video were the same combos just different enemies and stages. I expect better.
yea it is<_< it catches any1 above you, the stomp ivy does to put you in the air for his bullet seed affects ppl infront and behind him, and it can cause huge amounts of damage in just 1 go. Up to 40% if I'm not mistaken.
You'll get 20% max on someone who knows how to DI, and that's only on heavies. You'd be very lucky to hit with this move in a match because it is very easily punished and has only one reliable set up which is hard to land tiself , and secondly because you should only be using Ivy against like 6 chars in the game, the rest you should be using a Squirt-Zard battery. It's not even his best move, at lower levels it's great but I'm talking about high-level play.
I actually find it really easy to hit ppl with bullet seed and when I do it still does a good amount of damage.=/ yeah, its easy to kill him over the edge but ivy is still pretty epic. his arerials are amazing and he's quick and strong like CF. The thing is you have to be creative with bullet seed. I normally get people when they least expect. I even use it when I'm in the air. x) I really only use ivy and charz. I only use squirtle to build of damage which ivy can easily do as well. =p
CF is the 3rd worst charcter in the game. Ivysaur is terrible in the air, he has no mobility and laggy aerials, he gets destroyed in the air. And no Ivysaur is not awesome, he's virtually never used in tourneys and is considered bottom tier. You should never bullet seed in the air, you'll never catch a good opponent and you'll get punished badly, pretty much the only reliable way to land it is straight after a nair, which is hard to land itself.
Ivysaur is above average in the air.. aside from Dair his arials either come out fast, have a huge hit radius or both. The only reason you are really saying that is because he either falls slow or because of his stage recovery.
It seems like you havent even played the character long enough to comment on it Way to jump on the bandwagon.
I know you had a pretty good Ivy in the day (not sure if you still play) but all the top players say Ivy is terrible in the air. Toby (Tcranter), who I'm sure you know is the no. 3 PT, is always telling me how bad Ivy is in the air. I wouldn't make comments like that without credible sources to back me up.
Besides the 2 things i mentioned did you have more reasoning than "he told me so".
Im aware of who Tcranter is, but Ill let you in on a secret NO pokemon trainer plays the same. not only because of everyones "main pokemon" but also becasue of thier playstyle, whether defensive or offensive. Instead of quotting other peoples opinions why dont you figure out what works for you.
It's not just him who says it though, virtually every PT agrees Ivy is terrible in the air, that and the tether recovery are pretty much why he's considered bottom tier. And with regards to no PT playing the same, that's true, no one plays the same as Magik, Reflex and Toby, hence why they're not as good. It doesn't matter how you play, if you're hitting fair and uair consistently, and think that Ivy dominates in the air, then it's unlikely you're versing good players who know the MU.
And there's no point putting in what I know from personal experience, because I haven't played at top-level, therefore most of what I'd say would most likely be misleading. This is always the problem with MU discussions, lower-level players like myself comment on their experience, which slows down the disucssion because the senior players have to corect all of it. If I went on personal experience, I would say rocksmash is a good KO move, werheas in reality it isn't at higher levels.
Yes playstyles are different, but certain styles are better than others. Saving uair and fair is always better then using them regularly, because a smart PT will know that retreating fair and fast-falled uair are Ivy's best KO options, therefore should not be staled.
Fair and Uair don't come out fast at all, a good player like you would know you're not going to be hitting good players with fair and uair very often. Bair isn't as hyped as it probably was when this vid was posted, it's unsafe on shield and you normally can't follow it up with anything reliable, at least that's what all the top PTs are saying now.
fair has an arc radius and uair has an explosion radius, bair and nair are the fast arials.
and this whole "not hitting good players" seriously? everybody is susceptible to being hit, it just depends on how you set it up. saying stuff like that is unrealistic.
@AndreIannucci89 I disagree on the forward air in the air comment. You can hit anyone with forward air. No matter how "good" they think they are. This is a fighting game so it means someone will get hit someway, somehow. It will be harder for people to get hit by Ivy's up air upsmash, but the forward air is a different story. They don't know the range of how it hits and it doesn't hit the same at all air trajectories. Backair can be followed with a neutral air or bulletseed, just depends.
Bullet seed is always rpedictable ebcause you have to so close and a good player will never get that close on the ground because Ivy is easily spaced and easily punished. Anyone who knows the matchup will destroy Ivy, he's never used in tourneys execpt when Squirtle ro Zard do worse than him, which is only like 6 chars.
I don't mean to be rude but it seems like you're talking about versing casual players who wouldn't place well in tournies, I'm talking about top-level. I'm not top level myself but everything I've said is the general consensus among compettive PTs and would not be refuted. Don't use Ivy-Zard, Squirtle is miles better than both of them, virtually all of PT's competitve ability is in Squirtle, generally it's better to go for a Squirtle-Zard battery.
actually when I played brawl(gonna start playing again next week) my friend's second main was ivysaur and he really is a pro. I play alot of pro players who have been in tournines. I'm really good myself. When ever some1 was in a clan they would always ask me to join but I would always tell them I'm done with clans :p. Keep in mind you can be top-level with any character. I have friends who absolutely rape with zelda, peach, and even yoshi. I myself main lucas and ness.
You can be good with anyone but you're not gonna be winning massive tournaments without an S tier. For example, Reflex, who is the number 1 PT, and is amazingly good, placed like 50th at a national tournament. Alot of people say they're good, but really have no idea of the objective standard so they overrate themselves, I'm not saying you're on of them it's just hard for me to know whether you actually are good or not. Who's the pro Ivy? If he's pro he'd be known.
No offence you don't sound like ur good, if you use Ivy-Zard batteries, that suggests you have little understanding of competitve play because it's clear that Squirtle is miles better than them and Ivysaur has virtually no competitve viability, and the fact you use try bullet seed alot and even in the air suggests you're not versing good players. I don't mean to be rude, and I'm not saying I'm good, it's just the stuff you've mentioned is generally considered 'nooby'
Also, pro Pts are virtually non existent, because it's pretty much known in the PT community that there's only like 5 good ones, and the rest of us are scrubs. Again not tryna be a jerk, none of this is my personal opinion (although I do agree with it all) I'm just stating what the general consensus is amongst competitve Pts.
i play with PT once in a while. I suprise so many people when I am Ivysaur. It's so much fun to see their reaction. He is my favorite in PT's team. ^_^
jeez the edge strat is insane =)! i fkin hate how ppl underestimate characters, like yoshi and jigg, and ivysaur too, this vid proves that wrong! 5 stars!
I don't really play with PT at all, but I'm confused at 2:19. It looks like you tether to the edge, and drop down without untethering. Is that what happened or did it just look that way? GJ btw:D
the exact thing happened to me today my friend twilight0007 spiked me with ness and i used my upb hoping for the best and recovered he was expectating the game to be over so he fell to his death great video
It's best to use mindgames when luring an opponent into Ivysaur's upsmash. Like when pulling off an aerial attack, you fast-fall and start an up-smash after they've tried to attack you.
your last video at the end is really impressive, but it doesn't mean that ivysaur isn't bad offstage.
In fact, he is really crap offstage, cause his jumps aren't that high and his recovery cannot work when someone occupies the edge. So yea, the end sure what cool, but I think you have lots of videos where your ivysaur dies because of his crapness offstage.
In terms of damage and tricks he's quite a god though...as seen on your vid.
ya..those combos only work if your fighting someone who isnt fighting back or a noob otherwise you wont land a single one because your opp will be kicking your ass while you try with ease
Seriously you have no clue then. It's easy to land combos with anyone. All of those were fairly basic to setup and kill with. Ivysaur can combo just as well as any other character. Link is a piece of shit too but I don't see you going to any of Izaw's videos and saying they wouldn't work on real players. So shut up and acknowledge a well played Ivysaur.
haha i like the comparrison of using lvl9 computers to showcase the validity of these combos.
Brawl combos are never garunteed, consecutive hits are are a result of reading and set ups. if you cant see past that then thers now ay you can possibly understand how these combos, may not be garunteed are still valid.
but i guess I shouldnt expect that from someone with an an average 2 star rating like yourself.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
first off you need to lrn 2 spell and second o that was a lv 1 not 9 you fucking nub id smoke you youde be sitting there trying to use your useless combos and id just manhandle you like nothing
Of course these combos aren't a guaranteed thing, there are hardly any guaranteed "combos" in Brawl, it's all about reading your opponents next move. And telling him to use these against CPUs clearly shows that you know nothing about competitive Smash at all.
theres nothing ironic here you fucking twat ohh btw nice alt youtube account aswell no its not about reading there next move its impossible unless your psychic haha you fucking noob you know nothing about brawl u fuckin nub
I dont agree, brawl combos just work different, you need to have fast follow ups mixup up with MINDGAME combos. brawl is different from melee and so the combo vids should be of a different kind to. I only have seen a few really good ones that approve to my "combo rules" XD but hese are the ones really good...the combo vids against pros. your's deffinetly not bad though ;)
I realize the combos in Brawl are different from Melee, but I was saying that in these Brawl highlight/combo videos, the opponents always tend to look bad.
one of the main things about when ever we play is he can read his opponents so well that there really isn't much that we can do but try to get away which rarely works,if you ever get to play his Ganondorf you would swear he was inside your head.
God said "thou shalt not covet", but I tell ya, your Ivysaur looks like covet material. LOL! The solution to that is to work on my own Ivy, which I have been doing lately. Though I see a few combinations that open my mind up more. I wish I could see you fight a few characters like ZSS and Meta Knight, but your Ivy is really great. 5 out 5 for the video and thanks Pants.

i didnt know ivysaur would be so cool
wwwilliam0024 2 years ago 3
your last video at the end is really impressive, but it doesn't mean that ivysaur isn't bad offstage.

Thanks x). Very good Ivysaur, PT is my main, and i like herbi, even if he had a fucking recovery ='/

how do u main ivysaur like what appens when you die u like run away so u can change ur person??
Drift108 3 years ago
Ivysaur is overall my best pokemon but I dont rely on him to win my matches. You have to be able to play 3 pokemon efficently to main PT.
pantsrwf 3 years ago
ya..those combos only work if your fighting someone who isnt fighting back or a noob otherwise you wont land a single one because your opp will be kicking your ass while you try with ease
MysteriousZisback 3 years ago
Seriously you have no clue then. It's easy to land combos with anyone. All of those were fairly basic to setup and kill with. Ivysaur can combo just as well as any other character. Link is a piece of shit too but I don't see you going to any of Izaw's videos and saying they wouldn't work on real players. So shut up and acknowledge a well played Ivysaur.
Slipsystem13 3 years ago 2
nope your wrong go ahead try that against someone good or 3 lv 9's hell even 1 lv 9 you wont land shit
MysteriousZisback 3 years ago
haha i like the comparrison of using lvl9 computers to showcase the validity of these combos.
Brawl combos are never garunteed, consecutive hits are are a result of reading and set ups. if you cant see past that then thers now ay you can possibly understand how these combos, may not be garunteed are still valid.
but i guess I shouldnt expect that from someone with an an average 2 star rating like yourself.
nice try.. but still phail

This comment has received too many negative votes show
first off you need to lrn 2 spell and second o that was a lv 1 not 9 you fucking nub id smoke you youde be sitting there trying to use your useless combos and id just manhandle you like nothing

orly?
pantsrwf 3 years ago
man I swear I already talked about reading your opponents and this guy goes and says its impossible,oh well, congrats on the hater = D
DondonSF 3 years ago
Hahaha wow...
Of course these combos aren't a guaranteed thing, there are hardly any guaranteed "combos" in Brawl, it's all about reading your opponents next move. And telling him to use these against CPUs clearly shows that you know nothing about competitive Smash at all.
It's also ironic that you tell him how to spell.

theres nothing ironic here you fucking twat ohh btw nice alt youtube account aswell no its not about reading there next move its impossible unless your psychic haha you fucking noob you know nothing about brawl u fuckin nub

cracker1204 3 years ago
That's just how Brawl combo videos work unfortunately...
CopShowGuy 3 years ago
I dont agree, brawl combos just work different, you need to have fast follow ups mixup up with MINDGAME combos. brawl is different from melee and so the combo vids should be of a different kind to. I only have seen a few really good ones that approve to my "combo rules" XD but hese are the ones really good...the combo vids against pros. your's deffinetly not bad though ;)
Freek1204 3 years ago
I realize the combos in Brawl are different from Melee, but I was saying that in these Brawl highlight/combo videos, the opponents always tend to look bad.
CopShowGuy 3 years ago
thats true indeed, the most just looked normal but only some opponents just.really looked bad xD
IamCracker1204 3 years ago
alot of the people in the combo videos are also in the matches I put up.
they are not terrible players at all but these were obviously when I caught them off gaurd with mindamges and fast set ups. like freak said.
pantsrwf 3 years ago
meh rofl at u saying brawl has insane mindgames.. it gave me a good liahg.. fun video either way

Yeah... to bad he didn't say insane. Just mindgames. -_-

he was implying.. and serious was it really worth your time comenting that.
lovingmonkay 3 years ago
one of the main things about when ever we play is he can read his opponents so well that there really isn't much that we can do but try to get away which rarely works,if you ever get to play his Ganondorf you would swear he was inside your head.
DondonSF 3 years ago
aright, I want to play him, lets see how he gets into my head xD fc? =D
IamCracker1204 3 years ago

glad to help you out steeler take what you want.. this video is to showcase ivysaurs metagame
pantsrwf 3 years ago
God said "thou shalt not covet", but I tell ya, your Ivysaur looks like covet material. LOL! The solution to that is to work on my own Ivy, which I have been doing lately. Though I see a few combinations that open my mind up more. I wish I could see you fight a few characters like ZSS and Meta Knight, but your Ivy is really great. 5 out 5 for the video and thanks Pants.

lol i like how you put it...
im working on some new videos as we speak.. dunno how long it will take me to gather clips though
