  • Great performance!

  • Dude, You are fun to learn from! That note really was long, and steady. I thought I was gonna see the clouds roll back and the Mtn. split. You are a cool person and fun teacher. Good job!

  • @AugustJames2006 Well thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Our shofar blower also does a tikia gadola that is as long as he can make it. When he is done, there is a big sigh from the congregation, as they have been holding their breath along with his sound.

  • Very good. Thanks.

  • WOW! Tekiah gadola 40". Fantastic!

  • We await the 100th shofar blast this Rosh Hashanah. We are on a HIGH rapture watch this year. Come Jesus, come!

  • I took interest in the Shofar about 10 years ago but had nothing to practice with and no knowledge. So my first "Shofar" was a goard I had hybridized for that purpose. I got lucky and got a pretty good one of good size. Then next I found a shell that worked. And a friend found an actual very large heavy rams horn shofar at a yard sale. It had been cut with a fine size for mouth peice. I am practicing almost every day and learning it is more difficult than I thought. Your vid is excellent.

  • I would like to know if he's available to drive me to pick up my girl saturday night. I could sure use a "Shofar." LMAO.

  • I can play melodies with more than just two notes on mine.

  • Lovely video, sweet! Well done and quite informative to those unfamiliar with our ways. Tov Meod! :) Cheers,

    Hadassah

  • @russianhadassah I'm very glad you liked it. If you've not checked it out, I also have another YouTube channel in addition to my alistaircohen one - WDINT which you can get to by clicking my username.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Hi Alley,

Its your couisun Jake. Ive watched a lot of your videos including the "mouth off" which was my best, I think you have a very good talent on holding your breath a it shows in this LONG VIDEO you should do one about pesach to

    Jake

  • What a great little video! Thanks for sharing a wee bit of the history & how to!

I've been wanting to get a shofar for sometime now. This will aid me in playing it.

    Thanks! :-)

  • Wow, excellent job!

  • hi alistair, this video is informative and interesting. i love the way you explain about shofar. very relax and cool style. hope to see more of your video. my grand dad too kept a shofar at home, but we just hang it up there without being used, LOL.

  • @Kubangpasu thank you very much. glad you enjoyed it! :)

  • what if i want to use a shofar for a school sports event? is it wrong, im personally not a religious person myself, i wanted a "viking" horn but a Shofar is the best thing i can find. just thought i'd throw that out there. and i am a brass player (cornet) and school events are the highlight of my school year.

  • @Jshnizzoor I GUESS that would be ok. After all, it is just the horn of a ram, and not specifically a sacred or blessed item. I'd say go for it, but on one condition - you have to tell at least 5 kids (jewish or otherwise) what it is and where its from - just to spread a bit of education about :)

Be interested to know what anyone else thought...

  • @alistaircohen well thats reasonable, but there arent many jewish people in my school, like, at all, but if i am confronted about it i wouldnt mind tellin em about it.

  • @alistaircohen Here's my take. In order for jshnizzoor to play a shofar at a school function, I would think that it would be entirely permissible, as long as that shofar in particular is not used for holy feast days purposes, as well. In keeping with the definition of "holy", it must be set apart, and used for that one purpose. But, since jshn mentioned they weren't religious anyway, I suppose that shouldn't be an issue. Just some thoughts.

  • @alistaircohen I have to agree and disagree with your response. Remember that a Shofar is said to represent the voice of God so it is sacred. He also can't just go around blowing it without knowing what each blast represents. He could play it as long as it's with good intentions. I know you don't see no wrong with what you said but remember that some people take it serious. If it were up to me I'd let him play with no worries just as long as he knows what it represents. BTW nice vid. I loved it.

  • out of about 7 clips on shofar blowing, yours is definitely the best and i think you are going to do fine as a presenter. Great breath control gives you poise, and you have dignity without pomposity, which is quite rare in your chosen profession.

  • @pamelaamoils Thank you very much. If you know anyone that works in tv, feel free to pass

  • @alistaircohen Thank you very much. If you know anyone that works in tv, feel free to pass on the link :)
