I also have Tourette Syndrome and I developed it at the age of 7, It was very hard because no one knew what it was, Then at the age of 15, I started having Seizures and they finally figured out i have this disorder, they just kept saying im a nervous kid, If you saw his movie, i was just like him with the noises and movements and its hard. At 15 I didnt deal with it well, but now i say to everyone i meet I have tourettes do you know what that is ? Its helpful to educate, God bless you Brad !!
I sat in back of a kid who never talked (was a genius) and bobbed his head. I was scared I caught it because my body jumped too . So no one ever speaks up and we are all scared we are sick and dieing....so thanks.
@tzzlite ,I dont know about his tourettes but personally with mine, Im on medication and it has improved alot ( Mine were very bad almost to the point of where his were in the movie ) and also some people will outgrow them to a certain point.. Now like i said im not sure what happened in his case but they have tried to take me off my meds to see if they will get better and im a wreck. Just a little personal info that may help with your question. Deb :)
I love how this man has great passion for what he does and how easy it is for any audience to see that. I always hate it when my teachers say that students should have their own passion for the subject matter and yet they themselves do not look like they enjoy doing it. If you make your passion for what you teach clearly evident to your students like this man does, then you will inevitably instill a passion in them to learn. That's what I love about this guy.

I would be careful about opening up to questions. Some people who do not want to know believe you. If they learn that if they imitate tics they can make them worse or even cause physical injury to a person with Tourette Syndrome they imitate tics all the more. If they affirm they understand you they will still deny they understood later. If you complain they might call the cops on you as if tics make you a criminal.
I saw the movie "In front of the class". Your story is truly inspirational. Tourette's syndrome has taught me a lesson. I don't have tourette's, but I can understand a little bit better now. In spite of Tourette's, you made it. As I said, I don't have Tourette's, so what stops me from achieving my dreams?
By the way, I would have been your friend in grade school. I always hung around the "not so cool" crowd.... And still, you're way cooler than most of us.
hey Brad im Michael from Philippines i saw your movie a minute ago. you are fantastic! don't let it stop you. now that's the word that i have to think about everyday.
When he is speaking he is not flinching badly. is there medication for it?? and i watched the movie that principal who brought him up to the stage after the concert is a freakin asshole.
Stupid teacher that made him apologize... I have Tourette's, although is not that strong now. It was when I was a child. Now it comes strong when I'm nervous, or for periods when it seems to decide to come and make itself noticed.
i have tourettes. mines a mild case. i have it for few months goes away then again the same tic or a different one. turns out my TS cuz of allergies. i never knew i had allgeries. im going to an allergist for a year and half so far. ive been taking allergy shots at the doctors. im 14 years old, 9th grade high school now. i was diginosed when i was in 5th grade. 4 years with TS. i went to a newalergist (think i spelt that wrong haha :D) and allergist. now im practiclly living a normal life :)
My son has Tourette Syndrome and we have problems with our school system not being able to handle this and it very hard to get people to understand what is going on with him. Thank You for allow a movie to be made to help people understand this disorder. I would love to met with you and have you talk to my son so he understands that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I am from Costa Rica, and I saw the "Front of the Class" movie a few days ago on TV, and I loved it. You are definitely a very insping & brave person, Mr. Cohen.
brad you are amazing and i thank you for being a friend and show me that there are other people out there that have the same as me. i use to cry everyday, after school. i to did not have any friends till i hit my last year of high school. and the preppy boys and girls were the meanest. again thank you brad
@MariposaRedimida you could hear that comment? I never knew text comments made a sound lol. If you don't agree with me I feel sorry for you too, either you are Jewish yourself, or you have been suckered under the thumb of American Jewish run media to respect Jews. I will stand up, with my head down, in silence for 10 minutes, for the mind and ability you hopefully once had to think for yourself instead of being a slave to your media. I truly feel sorry for you bud.....
@booblebumthumb I seriously feel sorry for you, you are so absorbed in your antisemitic thoughts and ideas that it seems you have lost the ability to recognize that even jewish people are human too, who cares if some jewish people are rich and own part of the media, that doesn't mean all jews are part of some conspiracy to rule the world, its like if you'd say that all christians are pedophiles just because some christian priests were.
i like the determination of Brad Cohen.. inspite of his tourettes.. he acheived a lot! the movie front of the class inspires me a lot! he is so amazing!
i never saw front of the class until yesterday and nothing has touched me like that before. You are truely an inspiration.I pray that God will continue to bless and strengthen you because you are truely a remarkable man.I hope that i will get the chance to meet you someday.
i just watchd the movie front of the class it literally changed my life. i mean, ive never made fun of anyone like that. but still, it shows me that i can do anything if he can. and he actually has something that was holding him back. but he learned to deal with it. hes probably going to forever be my inspiration.
I watched the movie for the first time last night. It took loving parents who wanted to know what was going on with their kid to trigger a change of attitude, in everyone. I agree with @crazy5boy8, the actor was believable.
I sympathize with what Brad had to go through while growing up! I too grew up with a learning disability. It wasn't Tourettes but I was hyper and I had dyslexia.
Heard of Brad Cohen four years ago nearly and he is very brilliant and a good example that it is the ability not the disability and that should be learnt more, He has done a brilliant job with his life. Is Tourettes is not hereditary is it, Be sure to know anything that you want to achieve in life, put your mind to it it can be achievable. Sadly people are not only ignorant but uneducated when it comes to various illnesses it is sad.
thanks for sharing Brad u really are inspiring.i to have Tourrets and Suvere OCD. the funny thing though is that i to was aproached by my teacher who asked if they could educate my grade about my touretts back in elementary school. just like you after that more people started to except me for who i really was. well take it easy Brad thanks for the video
speaking of elementary schools, Brad Cohen works at my own elementary school!!!!! i swear, and my friend nick's mom was ther when he was on Oprah, im supprised how popular my own teacher really is!!!
I think that you are amazing, Mr. Cohen and you continue to inspire me. I too have Tourette Syndrome and I want to be a special education teacher or a physical therapist. You have taught me to set goals and to never give up.
@freakzunited2 i have tourettes also. mines a mild case. i have it for few months goes away then again the same tic or a different one. turns out my TS cuz of my allergies. i never knew i had allgeries b4. im going to an allergist for a year and half so far. ive been taking allergy shots at the doctors. im 14 yearsold, freshman is high school now and i was diginosed when i was i was in 5th grade. 4 years ive had it. dont worry go to a newalergist (think i spelt that wrong haha :D) and allergist.
wow, great story!!! i am 15 and i have seizures and sometimes i feel very uncomfortable when people see my problems and stuff, but brad really puts perspective on things.
I love the film about him! He is the greateat teacher I have ever heard about.Thankyou,Mr.Cohen,you showed me that how important are the teachers and...I just want to say that,it would be an other,to be your student, jalthough just once
tht guy is awesome. he was my computer lab teacher in 3rd and fourth grade. i remember him n all those noises he made. he ws an amazing teacher. i remeber he signed my yearbook. and, as he always said, he wrote "cheers"
I have tourettes very similar to his. except i constantly hit my chest and i make a noise very similar to that of a dog barking.. One thing I want to say is dont assume that ecause someone has tourettes there gonna cuss because thats just not the case. Only about 3% of people with tourettes actually cuss... Keep that in mind...^_^
A person with TS is worse in their comfort zone, and indeed when they're focused on something else. Coming from a person with TS, at home I am worse then in public
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I dont understand the big deal about this guy. I have a tic disorder not as bad as torettes but this guy's story is no worse than many people who have the problem. Just because this guy went on Oprah he is now some big American hero now. I cant believe that they even went to the trouble of making a CBS movie about this guy. Only in America......
He is an American Hero because he is an inspiration to all people with tourette syndrome. He wasn't going to let that control his life and he wanted to become a teacher and he became a teacher. He became one of the best elementary school teachers in the United States. He won teacher of the year. He is a HUGE inspiration to people... That is why he is a big deal.
Really, sir, you could just appreciate the different kinds of movies that are heartfelt. So what if he was on Oprah?! That doesn't make him who he is....you should change your perspective.
But if you want to help me understand your perspective message me. Cause really, I just see yours as ignorance.
I have a similar neurological condition. Watching the movie made me cry numerous times because I can relate. I too am a teacher and when I have my condition effecting me, I continue to teach. Never give up has also been my motto even though it's been a long road, it's well worth. =>
When I first sat down to watch the movie, I was anticipating another "outsider's perspective" of TS and what it's like living with it; something innaccurate and overly simplified like so many other reports that I've witnessed. But this was different. It was nothing short of brilliant. I may have even learned a thing or two about myself. If you are interested in learning more about TS, please watch his movie (Front of the Class).
I know the guy personally. He taught at Mountain View, where my mom was a teacher and I was a student. I just watched the movie. Brings back memories. Truely awesome guy.
the movie was so good!!! just watched it!!

he's not making any noises and no tic's
mileyfan1273 2 years ago
he is making facial tics with his mouth. He probably had some form of therapy or medicine so he wouldn't have tics. Works 4 me.

MustacheFinger 3 years ago
I have tourettes very similar to his. except i constantly hit my chest and i make a noise very similar to that of a dog barking.. One thing I want to say is dont assume that ecause someone has tourettes there gonna cuss because thats just not the case. Only about 3% of people with tourettes actually cuss... Keep that in mind...^_^
luvwins 3 years ago
I don't have tourettes but i have ADHD and when i was little i used to make strange sounds to cope with it

A person with TS is worse in their comfort zone, and indeed when they're focused on something else. Coming from a person with TS, at home I am worse then in public

I dont understand the big deal about this guy. I have a tic disorder not as bad as torettes but this guy's story is no worse than many people who have the problem. Just because this guy went on Oprah he is now some big American hero now. I cant believe that they even went to the trouble of making a CBS movie about this guy. Only in America......
luckycanuck90 3 years ago
He is an American Hero because he is an inspiration to all people with tourette syndrome. He wasn't going to let that control his life and he wanted to become a teacher and he became a teacher. He became one of the best elementary school teachers in the United States. He won teacher of the year. He is a HUGE inspiration to people... That is why he is a big deal.

Really, sir, you could just appreciate the different kinds of movies that are heartfelt. So what if he was on Oprah?! That doesn't make him who he is....you should change your perspective.
But if you want to help me understand your perspective message me. Cause really, I just see yours as ignorance.

i looked at the movie yesterday it was sad cause the adults didnt accept but the children accept it better then the adults
yosammitysam2212 3 years ago
Yeah I know, really! How can we be so ignorant!?
ixymango 3 years ago
I have a similar neurological condition. Watching the movie made me cry numerous times because I can relate. I too am a teacher and when I have my condition effecting me, I continue to teach. Never give up has also been my motto even though it's been a long road, it's well worth. =>

Really, that's amazing. I appreciate your hard work, a true overcomer. Bah! Good job :D

i am hard of hearing.he just made me realize i shouldn't let my hearing loss take advantage of me!!!
Brad, you are my hero!
