  • i'm sorry but that is not the philly bop!! that a cha cha not the bop, that's not even the concept of the bop sorry

  • adwlife215, please stop by our class any Thursday and instruct us the right way. This invitation is good for any Thursday.

  • This is not the Bop please get it right!

  • Hi, Dose anyone the Philly dog ! That was a Philly dance also.

  • Hello Justforkhadijah, we Philly Bop to many different song, oldies, jazz, blues & R&B. We just perfer the smooth songs for this dance. Are you in the Philly area?

    Checkout our website oldiesinphilly

  • I just heard about the Bop dance. Is it supposed to be that slow? Somehow I imagined it would be faster.

  • Philly Bop - gotta love it! Grew up on it! My 18 year old can Bop too!

  • Yep. Pretty much like the bop we did growing up in Detroit in the 50's! A few slight differences, but yeh! Fun to watch!

  • I did some research and was shocked to discover that the Bop WAS different in diff. locations. This one was totally diff. from where I lived in the west. I thought what "we" were doing was the real thing. As a teen we were so proud that our Bop was nothing like the old swing and jitterbug steps as seen a bit in this...but hey, I've discovered that I was wrong. Bop is whatever it was in your area! The fun of it is what matters.

  • @inyomusic can you post a video of your style of the bop?

  • @inyomusic But so many kids began to dance Philly style because that is what we learned watching American Bandstand. It was all a little faster than these folks are dancing, but the Philly Bop became America's dance.

  • @inyomusic Thats really interesting, I was just thinking, "this isnt bop", until i read your comment.

  • @CrashOverideHTP Yeah...at first I thought they just didn't "know" how it was really done. Didn't know it was diff. in diff. areas. Can't find any videos of the way "we" did it. It totally doesn't look like the Philly Bop at all. And no holding hands or contact w/partner. It started out with each foot sliding up to the toe of opposite foot (heel raised). But if you were really cool, you began to step that foot up and did all sorts of variations and moves...and it was usually fast.

  • They may call it the Bop, but those of us who lived it...danced it...this is NOT the Bop. It's a combo of styles but mostly a version of jitterbug steps slowed down, a little swing and stuff.

  • inyomusic

Maybe it depends on wherr you grew up

  • @esquireyes Yes, you are right I discovered. (see my later post). I can't find a video anywhere that shows the way we bopped in California, but it was no way like this one. But I can understand with this way being done on American Bandstand that those that did it would think it was America's Bop. Not on the West Coast...but even here, I would bet diff. areas danced it differently.

  • @inyomusic In Washington, D.C. & Baltimore, MD, the Bop is a Slow Dance with a 1-2-3 Count, side -to-side, in-&-out.

  • This is the Bop. Now, June and Audrey are definitely cool with theirs, but this IS the Bop.

  • THIS is the BOP. I don't WHAT that other girl on another video is doing, that she calls the bop. Nice moves, folks.

  • nice. :)

  • chi town steppin

  • lol it stops at 2:15 the area code in philly. did they do that cause of that.

  • thats all they do in philly is the Bop. i grew up watchin the older cats do this and i am 33 now.

  • its looks to a cross between many style, Chi-twn steppin(but a lil watered down), Salsa, A lil Bop.. But it overall, has a reall nice look and feel to it..

    So go ahead and dance!!

  • Lovely. Man, I miss Philly!!!!!

  • Yeah June! That's how we used to do it at Enterprise, Club La Rosa, Starlite, etc. I'm down SC and they call it Swing Dancin and alot of people down here ain't down.
