  • A-MAZING!!!

  • Sorry, meant to say Suicide Silence did a heavier cover of Them Bones.

  • This is a damn good cover. And to whoever said they should've made it heavier...Suicide Silence did a heavier cover and it was total shit.

  • Good cover.. it has a fresh take on the song good to hear they're keeping aic alive!

  • Wow. I like the covers that Opeth does, Becouse the few that the do, they do perfect and i a sence they do it their own way...It's Perfect! Love Opeth!§

  • ... and Layne

  • great vocals, i like this version, but no one can sing " to rather see it once my way " better then Lane ,

  • for the record, it's: "try to see it once my way"

  • chills down my fucking spine!!!!

  • I was kind of hoping Mike was going to use his growls during the chorus. At least on the bridge. It's still a good cover, but I think if they made it heavier... it would've been better

  • i dont listen to alot of super heavy stuff but suicide silence covered them bones and the whole song is growling

  • Nicely done!

  • Not as good as the original. But very well done, none the less.

  • Great cover. Definitely does the original justice.

  • Great cover!the only band besides Nevermore I feel would be allowed to cover alice.

  • Hell yea! would love to hear them do a song like "Dirt" can't wait to hear their "Crystal Ship" cover

  • Nice cover,

snowdog90210 go back and listen to your jonas bros cds, you big cream puff

  • Genialny cover!! <3 Opeth and AiC !!

  • sick cover, different style. its a dream come true. my 2 favorite bands in one!

  • this is in D standard tuning.

  • the original is half step down standard

  • Great sound brother!! I'm sure Layne is very proud! Check out my versions too... see ya

  • beautiful cover...

  • It wasnt as hardcore as alice in chains's version but still good.

  • Bleh, they gave it a good shot, but the guitar/vocals were really lacking, imo. Then again, i'm a bit biased, as I don't really care for opeth... leave the singing to jerry

  • It's a fine line to walk when you pay tribute to a great band like Alice and to a song like Would. I think Opeth did a perfect job, they really made it recognizable as Opeth but without stepping on any hardcore Alice fan's toes by overdoing it.

  • one of my favorite bands doing a cover of one of my favorite bands :D

  • Ace cover!!!!

  • best cover ever

  • shit yea been waiting to hear this for ages!!!!!

    love both these bands!

  • nice! its standard as opposed to half step down!

  • Opeth do all their stuff in standard, I think.

  • Saw a video with Åkerfeldt, in that they used an alternate tuning, open chord tuning.

  • dude, ghost reveries is an entire album in a tuning you havent ever heard of. If you have a guitar, tune it up in EAFDAD. Now that's one sad sounding chord. And they use a lot of drop D

  • Oh... the only song I knew was in drop D was Blackwater Park.

  • You mean tune it down.

    It's called Open D.

  • its nice. but kind of misses the point since they practicly made it sound the same

  • idk if you could ask for a more well made cover awesome work to opeth yet again

  • Not bad at all... I'm really not a fan of Opeth, but a huge fan of Alice, and I'm really pleasantly surprised to see that these guys didn't butcher my favorite song from Alice. They really did do a good job here. Kudos to Opeth.

  • Awesome cover. They made the song their own style. Opeth is the best band on the earth right now. \m/

  • Wow, I actually enjoyed the guitar solo on this cover more than on the original... impressive! (even though there's no matching Layne's voice). Nice.

  • Awesome cover, nice work Opeth!

  • This be awesome.

  • Brilliant.

  • This is a great cover

    Nice

  • hey who are these guys opeth?

  • 110 percent guitarded.

  • hahah shut up man. but ok i guess ill never find out cause im really too lazy to look and not interested enough to care. haha

  • 120%

    but srsly. look them up.

  • quite, quite good. Opeth never cease to amaze me.

  • bored with lsd?

  • I don't rwally like opeth at all, but this is a good cover, and they've made it fairly intyo their style!

  • progressive bands love this song

opeth and dream theater covered this song

  • I absolutely love this cover -- freaking awesome. I really enjoy the guitar work in this version. Call me what you will...but I like it just as much as the original...

  • 10 times better than the suicide silence cover of them bones.Opeth ftw

  • Suprisingly pleased. Didn't think they'd be able to pull off the vocals. I'd listen to it.

  • Christ, this is a great cover.

  • Opeth always awesome ^^

  • Music sounds great but he is damn well no Layne... Good cover tho

  • lol he is just as good as any muscian or band before him. Akerfeldt is a genius.

  • hahaha How can I even have a comeback for a guy with that username. lmao... I almost pissed myself and I was on the phone at work at a call centre lmao

  • Very good cover, only a band like Opeth would be able to do something like this

  • good job Opeth good cover

  • i love the effects on the main guitar riff, sounds really spacey

  • maybe this is the best cover of would but definitely lacks of emotion compared to the original version..

  • I am actually impressed by this cover. Well done.

  • mikael said that AiC inspired him, great that the band took their time and recorded a cover of my favorite AiC song ;--). nice gesture from åkerfeldt

  • I need mp3 for that, plz help, awesome cover, send link or somethin' like that, someone!

  • very good

  • Great version!!! Hands down.

  • Now i need to open my self. FUCKING GOOD COVER!!! 5/5

  • Mikael Akerfeld fucking rules! great cover. Great they recogzied AIC. Great to be a Seattlite and listen to this.

  • please guys i need the mp3 help anyone!!!

  • Of course the vocals are a bit more "subdued". Mikael is a death metal singer for crying out loud.

  • hell yeahhhhhhhhh!!!

  • i like this because they changed it a bit... it sounds nice

  • This is by far the best cover of this song. There's no denying,it's Opeth but they kept the soul of the song....me liiiikes it.

  • Good Cover... I like it's twist with a more flowing, ethereal feel compared to the original.

  • da best :)

  • Amazing!

  • Opeth - a pretty good band, especially their acoustic stuff and vocals, covering one of the sickest AiC songs made. What can go wrong? Nothing. This is one great cover.

  • i thought this was good. i mean not as good as the original, but that could be said about any cover. i don't think they wrecked it like a lot of people have been saying. they stayed true to the original but put their own twist on it, which i like.. i personally hate when a band tries to imitate the vocals on the song and can't pull it off.

  • Good lord, one of my favorite contemporary bands covering my absolute favorite grunge song. Beautiful.

  • They've done other covers too. Bridge of Sighs by Robin Trower is one.

    I love this band.

  • not bad not bad at all, sounds very similer with a little darker slower twist to it makes me like it just as good as the original all just depends on what mood im in to wich version to listen to. very very rairly can someone pull off AIC cover this well.

  • this is a great cover, the vocals could be a little more passionate, but its good

have they ever done any other covers?

  • so are you ;)

    welcome to metal ;)

i think they got pretty far... the original is indeed better i have to agree..

    But to compare this to

    'Funeral Portait'

its cool that they could get so far with there vocals enz.

  • it's an ok cover, but the vocalist doesn't quite have the passion behind him at like Layne did. It is more subdued.

  • I totally agree. It is well played and all. But Layne was on the edge because of deeper feeling behind the song. But the vocalist here sings it in his Safe-Mode, no edge and no feeling.

  • The vocals sound a bit like Layne's, not a bad cover i would say...

  • I liked it they did a really good job nmo(even kinda reminds me of AIC a little)but I gotta agree they should have did the Wooooouuuuulllldd part but other then that grate Job

  • just them missing the first vocal delivery of "Wooooouuuuulllldd" ruined this for me :(

  • Lol i thought the same time, it's like a must for this song, it always gives me chills and epic feeling. It's weird how much that one word can say ya know...

  • I liked this. Ending wasnt too great. And yeah it won't take the place of the original and so what? How pathetic it would be to hear Layne covering Opeth's The Grand Conjuration or anything. I think both singers are awesome in their genres.

  • Wow... one of my friends tried to get me into Opeth with this song. He just failed. They didn't even try to do something interesting with it, they just played it in a different key. Oh, and they slipped into the parallel major about halfway through the solo. Or it at least sounds like they did. Big mistake. This song is NOT uplifting.

  • i didn't like opeth and my friends too tried to get me into them but failed but then i heard burden (the single this is taken from) and now i do like them so maybe you should check that out

  • I'm not going to judge this by the original. I doubt Opeth would even place this in the same league as the original song.

That being said, I really like it. This is a faithful interpretation of the original. I'm just glad to hear AIC had such a diverse influence over so many artists.

  • whatever... i liked it.. we need more AiC covers. that should be prerequisite to signing a major label contract.. "have u covered and AiC tunes?"... no?... FAIL!!!!

  • Great job, um... adding an extra guitar riff? At least Dolly Parton's version of Stairway to Heaven" was original (and fyi, that was an abomination).

  • Sounds good but I like the layers AIC used, not predominant enough for me here. Everything else is close so why did they omit the vocal depth? The guitar around 2:45 is good as well.

  • it sounds pretty like the original.

  • nope

  • wow- not bad!! this was one of the better covers of this i've heard!

  • Sounds pretty good although I like the original one by Alice In Chains. What u think Thundermaned?

  • Yeah I like it. ^^

  • Burden was a great song, too.

  • My personal opinion I like Alice in Chains better but these guys do a great job I like the solo a lot more. Alice in Chains Wrote this for death of a friend and I felt more emotion in them for it.

    RIP Andy Wood

  • its cool, cause i always saw opeth as the alice in chains of death metal

  • the original is very good, but i believe that opeth did a much better job, akerfeltd is a truly gifted vocalist and he's gonna be one of the greats one day,im not saying that Alice in Chains didnt do a spectacular job writing it, but opeth took it, innovated it, and added a bit of their emotion to it, and honestly, its newer, they had a fundamental groundwork to go by, i knew it was going to be better before i even listened, but i didnt let thaat become a basis of my judgement

  • Stop sucking Akerfeltds dick.

You can't honestly say his voice suits this song more than Laynes.

Everytime I listen to this version I just crave those screaming vocals.

The sound is just way too cleanly produced as well, the album is DIRT dammit! Grunge did a great job at giving you amazing writing with dirty sound. This just sounds too CLEAN!

  • I don't think AIC is a "grunge" band. They were a hard rock band that just happened to come out of Seattle in the early 90's,and were lumped in with the rest because the music was darker than Poison and Warrant.

  • Regardless of if they are 'grunge' or 'metal' is irrelevant, the point I was making is the grittiness of their recording and production techniques, whether intentional or not it sounds fuckin awesome.

  • I see your point. Most of their best material was recorded live with very few over dubs, too.

  • AIC is grunge. Any grunge/AIC fan will tell you that. Also labeled as Alternative Rock, Alternative Metal, and Heavy Metal.

  • Grunge was just a label created by the media, anyway.Everything has to fit into a little box.I think AIC music would be well recieved during any period of music,I'm not sure you can say the same for alot of the other Seattle bands. And Cantrell is too good of a guitar player to be grunge :)

  • Very good point. Thumbs up to you sir!

  • I was expecting Mikael to do his death metal screaming. I was surprised that he was able to sound soo clean in this. I really like this cover.

  • that was fuckin outstandin, defo thumbs up from me!! AIC and Opeth rule. Happy birthday Layne Staley, RIP brother.

  • Not too sure if that's a cover. It's almost a remake. Almost.

  • This is giving respect.

  • I think Mikael's vocals are pretty good, and they definitely work great in Opeth. He just can't do what Layne does. It would be like trying to cover Tool, people are always going to be like " Blah blah, vocals aren't as good blah " but it's all good. Mikael just can't get power behind clean vocals like some other singers. I would almost have wanted him to death metal growl the chorus just to hear it, but I think it's great.

  • I agree, this is still pretty good and Opeth are a talented band as well, but theres just something about Laynes voice that makes it impossible to identically recreate.

  • guys stop using this video as an excuse to flame eachother with. just listen to the song, that's all, just listen. K? Just chill out.

  • as a fan of both bands... this is pretty great

  • Some of you need to get your heads out from your asses. Opeth are a fucking sick band, their discography is full of monumental, epic music. This is Opeth's interpretation of the song, if you don't like it; just fuck off! No one asked for it to sound exactly like the original, and what would be the fucking point of that?

  • Actually I said above average, not just average. And I do like it. I'm just sick of hearing people say that Mikael Akerfeldt is the greatest singer in metal. He can't even reach the range or emotion of Layne Staley. And Layne Staley isn't even in my top 20 of best metal singers.

Opeth is a great band. Mikael is a great musician. But there are many that equal or surpass them in many others' eyes, and you Opeth fans should know better than to be so fanatical. You sound like Slipknot fans.

  • Range has nothing to do with emotion, people can use their full range at their highest volume and people just think, "ooh emotional lolol mariah carey rulz!" and you obviously haven't listened to enough Opeth songs to know that.

Songs like "hours of wealth" have awesome vocal harmonies that sound more emotional than that of Staley's, and fuck, the ending solo is good! Granted, there are better singers than Akerfeldt, I just don't think it's right to put him down like you do.

  • Absolutely agree with emotion VS range. It's like this High Hopes cover of Pink Floyd by Nightwish, doesn't sound nearly as good even though the singer puts feeling into it (plus the music is downgraded pretty badly). Yet, when it comes to terms I do consider Staley's voice superior to Akerfeldt's. Best cover of an AIC song I've heard, though.

  • "Range has nothing to do with emotion"

Never said it did. I said he didn't have the range OR the emotion. Two different things.

"and you obviously haven't listened to enough Opeth songs"

I've heard all their songs. Like I said, I love Opeth.

I'm not putting the guy down, I'm just being honest. His voice works perfect for Opeth. But it's nothing spectacular.

  • Check out "Love?" by strapping young lad and then tell me devin has no chops........... the song is fuckin amazing...

  • uhhhhhh layne wasnt in a metal band...nor does he sing metal music sooo...

  • This cover, although good, shows the limitation of Mikael's clean voice. I like his voice, it's nice, but he's just an above average singer at best. Just like Opeth is an above average band at best.

Opeth probably has the worst and most annoying fanbase in metal, with the exception of maybe Dream Theater. Mikael is not the best singer in metal, or even close, especially when you have guys like Daniel Gildenlow, Devin Townsend, Warrel Dane, and Hansi Kursch to compete with.

  • Comment removed

  • most anyoing fanbase??? dude your up in the fucking night.. and if you can't respect devin townsend's vocal chops...... .. your fucking insane... and if you ever seen opeth live... you would shit yourself.. so FUCK OFF!!!!!

  • "and if you can't respect devin townsend's vocal chops"

Are you directing this at me?! I said nothing bad about Devin Townsend at all. I love his music and his voice and I think he just might be the greatest metal musician alive. I never said anything about his "chops" and neither did anyone else here that I can see.

  • I can agree with you there man and not enough people know about him.

  • And also I've seen Opeth live twice. And they were very good. But that doesn't change the fact that their fanbase is full of people that make me want to not like them.

  • Too true. I loved going to see them, but there were way too many people there that were moshing during the acoustic parts...

  • holy shit this is a good ass cover

p.s. all the people saying "why should i listen to this cover when i can listen to the original" just appreciate it for what it is. its a band trying to show tribute to alice in chains, a band that most likely influenced these guys in one way or another, so just appreciate music for what it is.

  • This is a phenomenal cover! They're not trying to sound exactly like AIC like everybody else that covers them does so that's refreshing and very well done!

  • I can't even begin 2 say how fucking sick and tired I am of dumbass people saying "y would i listen 2 this when i can listen 2 the original" or "layne sings this song much better than him" u guys have absolutely NO FUCKIN IDEA WHAT OPETH IS ABOUT!! Mikael Akerfeldt is, without a doubt, the MOST TALENTED ROCK MUSICIAN OUT THERE (PERIOD) He has so much respect 4 music and, well, he sure can make sum 2, his voice, lyrics, his music, OPETH is fuckin EPIC/GODLY...NOTHING COMES CLOSE, NOTHING.

  • nice coverrrr

  • Check out Phil Anselmo's live version w/ the band.

  • yeah your right.

  • No, you're not. Have a little variety in your life, bud.

Fuck, I love AIC, but some the fans are so fucking arrogant.

  • No...

  • No you're wrong, actually.

  • I think this cover is pretty good. Sounds very Opeth-like, which is a good thing since covering a song doesn't mean copying it.

  • i think this is a great cover. the absence of the "whoooo" at the beginning isnt a big deal its a cover and if anything its a sign of respect for not trying to copy and just do thier thing with the song. i also like how they extended the solo into the chorus riff. sounds awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • No "wooooo" in the beginning?

  • awesome, i never really liked AiC except for this song, and i really like Opeths version. respect for both opeth and aic!

  • Awesome cover. Layne would be proud.

    R.I.P. Layne

  • Opeth likes grunge :)

  • The bass is, well, weird, but cool, seems like underwater. Maybe louder? Whatever, the voice is actually pretty cool. And you don't expect him to sing like he does. It's, well, awesome, every honor given to AiC is awesome.

  • This is cover is very descent. But there is something i miss...... it is Laynes voice.

  • It's a cover ! i is not suposed to sound like layne

  • there is nothing Opeth can't do.

  • awesome, but too bad they didn't keep the extended instrumental and then jump into the third chorus. 4 minute Would would be even better.

  • That was beutiful in the darkest best way :).

  • So where can one get this song? The description says that it's from the Burden single, so I guess it's a B side? But who the hell actually buys singles any more? How can i slap this tune down on a custom CD? Help a brother out.

  • if you rape a goat i might be on a cd

  • Get a prog called Youtube to Ipod converter. Change the settings from video (MP4) to MP3. Go to this vid, copy the url, paste it in the program, hit download, then you'll have a weak quality mp3 copy of this song. They sound kinda weak like slightly better than cassette, but meh its better n nothin right

  • Man I really want this album...it has mellotron heart on it as well, which is really chill version of porcelian heart...damn...opeth owns no matter what they do...

  • fucking amazing.

  • Great cover. Not as good as the original, but very good nonetheless

If anybody thinks this cover sucks, I would like to direct you to Suicide Silence's cover of "Them Bones" or Cold's "Junkhead" cover. Now those are some of the worst covers ever done.

  • the only problem i had with SS's Them Bones cover was the vocals. musically, i think they nailed it.

i haven't heard the Junkhead cover though.

  • they dont do the best covers, jfac does a good matter of splatter and the black dahlia does a good paint it black though

  • Wow, very good cover by opeth. I mean nothing is compared to the original. I guess for the exception of missing the chorus the 3rd time,(which I think is the climax of the song, really showing the power of Staleys vocals) it was outstanding. And the fact that they did it in their own style is pretty cool.

Cant really say the same for Hetfields sad attempt

  • such agreat fukn song regardless..

  • amazing cover, of course nothing compares to the original.

  • holy shit!!!! this is fucking supreme!

  • 5 finger death punch LOL!
