The second theme is remarkably similar to L.van Beethoven's piano sonata no.8 in C minor, although it's not clear whether he was familiar with this piece before writing the Pathétique Sonata.
@SirSebastianWang he most likely was. remeber that bethoven was obbsesed whit mozart, or his father was anyway, and bethoven was actually going to go and learn of mozart, but he died only 2 weeks after he agreed to take him as an apprentice..
when I play this movement, i feel sooo sleepy along the process. This really show my lack of technic and perception of playing piano cuz I follow the piece when Vadim playing along, very enjoyable and relaxing instead of sleepy :) i need to go to great pains !!!!
Really the first three notes on that phrase are almost equal at the ones of the main melody of Beethoven's sonata, but for the rest of all there are no more similarities.
Wow. I was just about to say the same thing... except I didnt know the name of Beethoven'spiano sonata in c minor (no.8), I only knew it as "That Beethoven Song Billy Joel lifted from for his lame song 'This night'"
I like Chopin's effort about a million times better!
definately the second movement in there around 3:27.. it just doesnt resolve to the 5 chord like beethoven does in the pathetique

@SirSebastianWang well, mozart was dead when bethoven wrote pathetique sonata, so it is clearly where he got his inspiration

No. Voiko sen tuunteen paremmin ilmaista kuin sen Mozart aikanaan teki. Sävelkulussa kulkee joustavasti koko ihmisen tunne skaala. Kaunista

xxawdryxx 3 years ago
yes it does! this sonata is what inspired (in a way) Beethoven to write the pathetique! i know cause i had this piece for my ATCL exams =)

i was thinking the same thing. i think beethoven's pathetique sounds better though; more of a romantic touch in his.

@p00per69 I dunno why, but I thought about Pastoral (No.15 in D Major, Op.28), instead of Pathetique... First movement of course.
