I do drive emergency vehicles.

The vehicles at the intersection were already aware of the EVs and stopped.

Yet thengineer or officer continues to needlessly blast his horn at them.

All this noise pollution for going through a GREEN signal. Laughable and ridiculous.

See the pickup with green signal remaining stopped for the fire apparatus? He also will suddenly pull into their path.

@robertgift and also, they were in the opposite lane, if you are referring to the green signal at the beginning. Most times, you can turn right on a red signal. So the fact of the right on red+going into the other lane=SIRENS

When people hear too many sirens they get tired of hearing them and some ignore them.

We already see the big red firetruck. No need to keep yelling that it is approaching.

@robertgift Agreed, but at same time, it can all come down to the "were the sirens on" in a court case. God forbid something should ever happen, that then entails a court case or investigation, but where i run, if those lights are on, those sirens better be going...however if it is 2 in the morning, no, not down the street, but like at an intersection? a quick (not full wind-up) of the Q and 1 or 2 horn blows and ur good

@twit101 Thank you. When approaching intersections where I cannot tell (see) if traffic is approaching, I have the siren blaring. But I STILL NEVER RELY ON IT being heard!!

If I can SEE that no traffic is approaching, I do not sound it. (Or if all traffic has stopped and is blocking other traffic, I instantly stop the blare by pressing the P.A. key on the microphone.)

We have map books that all stations make using Microsoft Visio and GIS data. Also it wasn't food on the stove it was a fire in a bedroom.

@ChathamFireDeptfan a lot of volunteer fire departments, like mine, cant afford gps systems. they have map books where the names of the streets are alphabetized and the maps are organized in different pages. these books have hydrant locations and allow you to see the best route for approach when you get on scene. they also have a book for the apartment complexes in the area (again with marked hydrant spots and best approach route). you end up knowing the streets like the back of your hand.
