The founder didn't create slavery, it was in America nearly two centuries before the Founders and has long been around before that time. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Jay noted that there had been few serious efforts to dismantle the institution of slavery prior to the Founders.

The majority of manumissions were made to blacks during the revolutionary war , sometimes sincerely but more often out of necessity. Afterwards the union basically sold out the majority of blacks. Southern plantation owners were able to tear families apart, rape women, brutalize and sometimes murder their slaves with little or no repercussions.

@ssjwes this surprises you? how do you think the slave trade started? Slavery was alive & well in Africa long before the Europeans arrived. All the slaves in America & Europe were bought from Africans in Africa. strong tribes would defeat weaker tribes in battle. the weaker tribe would be enslaved.
@ssjwes yeah... Native American societies in the South East area of the US (i think there were about 3-4 tribes down in that region that were able to assimilate to Euro-American society) owned slaves as well. Owning slaves was a sign of wealth, it meant you had land & capital.

To have pressed the issue of slavery in 1787 would have aborted the nation.

The founder didn't create slavery, it was in America nearly two centuries before the Founders and has long been around before that time. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Jay noted that there had been few serious efforts to dismantle the institution of slavery prior to the Founders.

It was a time period of conflicts between Southern ways and wants. There needed to be unison between the colonies to separate and become independent.
Benjamin Franklin and Benjamin Rush founded America's first antislavery society; John Jay was president of a similar society in New York.

The majority of manumissions were made to blacks during the revolutionary war , sometimes sincerely but more often out of necessity. Afterwards the union basically sold out the majority of blacks. Southern plantation owners were able to tear families apart, rape women, brutalize and sometimes murder their slaves with little or no repercussions.
it's good to teach about these people,but there's a reason blacks are portrayed as victims in early american history...because most of them were.

In politics, you often compromise and don't get everything you want right away. It's easy to sit here in our 21st century armchairs, distanced by history, passing judgment on those who lived in the constraints of the times. To have pressed the issue of slavery in 1787 would have aborted the nation.

I always saw the black men in the pictures with George Washington during the Revoluationary war. I always assumed they were just slaves. I never knew they played such a key role in the founding of this country. @ronmatthews There are obvious ways to reduce corruption; support a bill that promotoes an entirely federally funded campaign system, a measure which would close every lobbyists office in DC and allow representatives more time to work for the citizenry that hosting 1000.00 a plate fund raisers. It's that simple, but the GOP wont have anything to do with it [ a number of liberals have repeatedly proposed it].

Wow, the comments are interesting! The show is about factual information about our history that is not being taught. Say what you will about Beck and his anticts.... please stop and listen to the information... focus on that... research it and see for yourself if the INFORMATION is true and if it is relevant. David Barton is an extremely credible educator. We really need to get to where we can focus on information.

I hate to break it to you, but the big corporations support Obama AND regulations.
You see, they know that regulations eliminate their competition from the mom & pop businesses. The mom & Pops cannot afford the Regulations, but the big guys CAN. All the big guys need to do is get the Democrats to pass more regulations and wait for the little guys to go out of business. Then they can step in and grab MORE market share.

Last week or so you'll see my 2 comments where i described Beck LYING about Obama before the election(Hawaii Basketball) and please no one tell me that lies are ok during an election. Beck lied blatently, Rush lied blatently and i'm no liberal. It's just that unfortunately truth has become a casualty these days. Beck also lies thru ommision and inuendo and sarcasm. Real journalism does not rely on sarcasm but Beck does.

I am a world history teacher and you would not believe how in the public school system, most conservative teachers that I have ran into chose to either distort or deny most minorities their history. Now I am a Black conservative, and it is very hard to be so when so many conservatives also choose to be racist.

Let me guess, you get your "facts" about Beck from Media Matters and HuffPo, sources repeatedly proven to not only take things out of context but clearly do so purposefully to distort the truth. On MULTIPLE occasions, they've refused to publish audio/video and stuck to text because the audio proves it's a joke (laughing, etc.) or when they use audio, cut their "proof" of how dastardly Beck is right before/after a sentence proving their "proof" absurd.

@robi2000 Calling Pres. Obama a racist against Hawaiians sounds like a joke gone bad rather than a factual statement. I'd like to see the clip of that, including the comments before and after. Knowing how Beck likes to toss in sarcasm to add to absurdity of the meta-picture, these statements might not be what you present them to be.
