  • Would not work vertically (as you approach the object / move away) only horizontally. I applaud the work though, as true 3D (e.g. that changes when the position of your eyes change) is the only way to get to past the uncanny valley or current tech

  • Throughout this entire demo I couldn't stop thinking 'Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope...'

  • Could it be the future of Skyping?

  • They should make it bigger so we can get inside.

  • Did i heard ps4?

  • Well speaking as a 3D holographic and quantum phase shift hyper dimensional expert in multi faceted higgs boson visualisation technology my expert opinion is that youtube comments is absolutely the best place to search for well considered expert opinion on any number of topics and it beats any of the drivel in text books or other rubbish learnt at stupid places like Universities. I would know nothing if it wasn't for the wisdom of the experts on youtube.

  • @NoahForksin haha

  • @NoahForksin I make POOPY!

  • @4thDimensionNC Why don't you go wax your chest.

  • As a 3D Visualisation Technician i'd just like to say AntiProtonBoy that your wrong, because 3D visualisation is in the public domain making everyone "qualified" to comment on this subject so unless your as "qualified" as me in this field, shut it and let the "qualified" ones do the criticising.

  • @TheTurnface

Do not confuse subjective options related to visual aesthetics, versus technical understanding of a subject. P.S. Playing computer games all day does not make you a "3D Visualisation Technician".

  • @AntiProtonBoy If you want me to send you a copy of my degree I will, gladly. However on the basis that you just seem to be another 'keyboard warrior' and you seem to feel threatened enough by someone to attempt to make them look and feel bad, then why are you even commenting?

  • @TheTurnface

Threatened? Hell no. I smell bullshit. That's all. Unlike you, I'm not compelled to prove myself, nor do I care to show-off a degree I worked hard for, because I don't have to. For someone who is *supposed* to be educated in the field, you articulate yourself like a typical 16-year old. Much the same way as other ignorant posters, who are happy to piss all over someone's research, dismiss it as "pointless", all the while not grasping the actual subject in question. That's all.

  • Relax Matey! Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm sure you have opinions on things you are not "qualified" to talk about...

How can one be "qualified" to offer an opinion? If that's the case, surely you are not "qualified" to offer an opinion on what is 'social acceptable'. Are you a Sociologist?

    Just chill out!

  • This is an interesting concept but is it a true Volumetric display? It looks as though this is a cylindrical screen using Parallax Barrier Technology to display a 3D image. Not really what I invision when i think of a "holograph"... cool tech demo if nothing else i guess.

  • My IQ literally drops every time I read comments such as the ones posted here. I'm willing to bet that not many you here are qualified to say anything remotely related to 3D graphics and visualisation technology, let alone criticise it.

  • @AntiProtonBoy it doesn't really drop, you just have a revelation about your own lack of technological intelligence. There is a difference, however if you would admit that and then continue to read the info garnered here, you could actually.....well probably not nevermind. Dont want to get your hopes up.

  • @i842much

What? Did my comment hit a nerve? My comment was solely aimed at individuals who automatically dismiss a concept as "pointless" and generally lack the foresight what these small evolutionary steps mean for the graphics industry.

  • this very display is pointless, yes, but it is a big step towards more advanced versions.

  • pointless..

  • Resolution of the screen looks really small, like a normal size screen divided into 360 little parts.

  • BEYOND SICK.

  • This is cute, but how is one supposed to say, display a TV show, sporting event, movie, etc., without the cameras being shown? This seems to only work with limited objects or computer generated constructs.

  • Sony says that it's the first 3D device that gives high quality 3D images in full color, and features interactive live motion, all in a small device. Obviously, they're trying to ignore the fact that Nintendo kicked their butt when they anounced the 3DS, or just try to forget about it completely.

  • This looked really nice in person :)

  • 3d room with a 3d siaplay atound the person is better than this....

  • I'm glad to see technology getting better and better :D

  • new way to do porno. lol

  • @sweetypie32111

yea I like 3d women dance front of me . bitchessssssssssssss!!!!!!

  • Not viable until the "Max Headroom pixelation effect" is solved. We are just getting used to our high definition screens. Not about to give that up for headaches using this thing. And what's the point of seeing the back of someone's head? It's like getting a bad seat at a concert. They need to think about this a lot more because it has a certain NEAT! factor, but quickly loses luster in practical application, just like M$'s stupid Kinect.

  • screen is too fucking small.!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sony back on top, Sony > Nintendo/Microsoft.

  • @RainStyle967 Orly? Have you heard of the 3DS?

  • @LocoLogo95 Piece of shit

  • @RainStyle967 You be trollin'. But in case you aren't, the 3DS and this use the exact same technology. Sony just made it so it's in a sylindrical shape, instead of flat.

  • @LocoLogo95 *cylindrical. sorry.

  • I knew this would come soon.

  • I got a feeling the next "playstation" will take advantage of this

  • so how does this work? I can see the pixels but do you really think that pixels will be suspended in mid air in the future?? The commuters definitely doesnt think so

  • This is just a prototype but the opportunities are endless. I can see it's use in marketing, teaching, meetings, security, consumer entertainment or even medical application.

  • But how practical is this? 3D animation, probably, but tho take 360 images of live action without seeing the other cameras??? doubtful. I can see this in an art gallery or maybe museum...but other than that, limited practical use!!!!

  • @d4ngrm0us it would take 10s of years before this would become commonplace in shopping centres and malls

  • Awesome!

  • loving it
