Oh man, what a sweet poster. I remember having it in our gallery. Unfortunately I have been a victim of renting a movie because of the cover art (and because it is a favorite tiny sub-genre of mine) and the movie was HORRIBLE. It is in fact the movie I hate the most in the world.

I recall reading that this was actually shot as a zombie flick, though because of the success of ALIEN, they tinkered with it in post-production to make it an "alien" zombie - thus making an already crappy movie even worse. From what I remember, they simply reduced most of the zombie scenes to mere stills of the thing, with animated "lasers" coming of its eyes. Atrocious movie, haha.

Why do the zombie laser eyes cause that one cop to fly across the alley and into the building before blowing him up?

The zombie clearly missed on a couple shots - how? They're out of his eyes - just looking at the target should result in perfect aim, no?
