  • what did he say at 2:26

they had bigger ...... ?? bigger what, trees !? i could not hear that.

  • @mjoraid ouh bigger strength increasing

  • 95% of lifters do not know what true failure i. if you can do the same reps in work set 2 you never hit it. so 95% of lifters train 1 rep short of it I have only realised myself recently

  • .unm.edu/~lkravitz/Article%20folder/trainfailure.html

    unm.edu/~lkravitz/Article%20folder/trainfailure.html:

"...bench press training 3 sessions per week for 6 weeks..."

"...elbow flexors...3 days per week for 6 weeks."

These study groups exercised the same muscle 3 days/week. This may be why going to failure on the same muscle group often/week is bad, but there are those of us who train 1 muscle only once per week, not 3 times/wk and may not result in a decrease in long term gains.

  • ncbi.nlm.nih.gov:

Problem with this experiment was that the sets & probably weights varied causing variations and inaccurate results and conclusions. More sets in non-failure group could result in higher intensity (rep x set x weight) which might have caused more gains and leveling the non-failure group to the higher gain to-failure group.

-no specific data or numbers to confirm or compare.

  • IMO training till failure should only be done if you have a spotter

  • You have a cool accent.

  • @crackakillah Thanks! :)

  • Snow - white gym.

  • i always consider training to failure "training until you fail to maintain good form". so if you can't maintain decent form, then you should obviously stop. like if you do dumbbell flyes and start bending your elbows too much, then you're done. personally, i don't train till failure until the last set of the last exercise for a body part. previous sets, i try to conserve my energy in order to squeeze out those 6 reps on the last set.

  • @michaelzwarszawy That is another good approach!

  • Interesting, where power lifters go against training to failure but it was found to increase strength, good vid.

  • @v1ct1m1z3d Thanks, v1ct1m1z3d!

  • I am afraid you will have to shovel snow to failure ...

  • @agustn I'm afraid you are right there - yesterday we had another two inches. Argh! :)

  • Good video Evil. I rarely train to failure now, I find it much easier to increase in volume and weight now that I stopped training to failure.

  • @0wenSlattery Yep. I really think it's just a special technique that, like the others, shouldn't be used all the time.

  • Go 1-3 reps from failure = best of both worlds ^^

  • Question about Traiing to failure. Wouldn't training to failure mean you have a hard time completing a full workout routine? If I train to failure on my pullups there's no way I can do my dumbbell routine properly.

  • @bludwork If the workout has a good structure and each major musle group is only once heavily put to task then it should work. If however it doesn't work for you, then either cut the going to failure a bit or have a good look at what muscles (including synergists) are involved in the exercises you do or both.

  • Hello! Im currently following Beginners workout, can do 25 normal push ups in fresh set and 6 pull ups with good form now. I start intermediate workout on January 10th when Christmas holidays end ( they havent started yet, but when they do, I keep doing push ups and pull ups 3 times a week for whole Christmas holidays ).

Question: Should I always do push ups to failure, or it slows down the effect?

  • @MarkusAir2000 If you have started a couple of months ago, you can safely go to failure with the push-ups and pull-ups. You just shouldn't do it year in, year out.

  • @Evilcyber

    Thanks!

I started weight lifting last year on October. I most likely overtrained but got stronger and bigger. I didnt have knowledge about bodybuilding these days, I thought that more is better, but thanks to these helpful videos by You and Scooby....I learnt A LOT out of them. :)

  • @MarkusAir2000 Great to hear, Markus! Keep it up, man! :)

  • Your videos are always of use, thanks again.

  • @JimboJ1981 Thanks Jimbo! :)

  • Nice place! Where do you reside?

  • @vietboi4lyf3 Germany :)

  • Hahaha. I kind of understood there'd me some snow. Try coming to Finland though. We've gotten even more snow than last year (and I can't remember the winter before the last one when we had as much snow).

You do seem to feel beginners should go to failure right? Is it because you feel it "activates" more muscle cells?

  • @JuhQman Yep, on the safer exercises a beginner should do, he can do all he can, because of the learning process.

More snow? Thank you, I had enough! ;)

  • Great info again man, thanks for the vid. =)

  • @antlp89 Thanks again, ant! :)

  • IMO this is the most confusing topic in bodybuilding. It seems like every side of the debate makes at least some logical sense.

Also I'm really jealous of the snow. I live in Arizona (U.S.) and it was over 26 degrees c today.

  • @titans091052 don't be jealous of the snow haha driving in it is the worst

  • @orochimaruisugly Oh yes!

  • @orochimaruisugly Once I dropped my headphones on the ground on my way to my front door. I kid you not, about 6 hours later the plastic on the ear peices had melted into the driveway. Snow I can handle though :)

  • @titans091052 LOL! Sorry to hear that, but I gotta admit, picturing that gave me a laugh ;)

  • @titans091052 As a former utah resident that has recently moved to AZ... I can honestly say that you are nuts for being jealous of snow. =p I will admit... it was to hot today. i actually had to turn on my AC again

  • @MrSquish22 I love the cold. I don't think I can go through another blast furnace summer here. Have you ever tried hiking or anything in the summer here? Even at 5 am it's still too hot!

  • @titans091052 I will go into hibernation and not leave my house during the summer for sure! outdoor activity that doesn't involve a pool or a lake is out of the question during the summer.

  • @MrSquish22 I can't stand that though! I just think about Camelback/superstition mountains, or the basketball court near my house and and end up really sad. I think I have a severe case or reverse seasonal depression from living in Arizona.

  • @titans091052 Perhaps the best would be something mellow in the middle :)

  • @titans091052 Well, the truth seems to be somewhere in the middle :)

  • @Evilcyber

On last Wednesday I had to walk a fair way from university home (downhill), because the roads were blocked. But it was more sliding than walking. And I resembled a snowman after a while.

  • @JediMasterMedi LMAO :)So after a while you probably looked like that snow monster from "Empire Strikes Back"! :)

  • @Evilcyber I'm a numbers kind of guy, and it bugs me to not have a quantifiable "right" amount :/

  • @titans091052 Well, weightlifting isn't that exact a science :/

  • @Evilcyber Which is my biggest qualm with lifting.

  • hello

  • @flabazoid hi

  • @flabazoid Well, hello! :)

  • As always, good video- bad turtleneck

  • Great information as always. That snow shoveling will get you some good muscles!

  • @FunnyHaHa312 I'm afraid I will develop some asymmetry; I always shovel from left to right! ;)

  • Oh boy... snow shoveling is a great workout lol. And thanks for the tips on training to failure. I actually do that all the time. I feel as though I am not working out hard enough if I do not push myself all the way. But if it could be counterproductive, maybe I should begin to do this less.

  • @Jamestown2010 Try it out! And if you'd like to shovel some snow, feel invited! ;)
