Tsk, tsk, gosh, Do they have to toll a HOT Lane? Well, you just put the Express Toll Lanes just to get more money for the new proposed bridge your building (hopefully, your bridge project won't end up in failure).
Gee Mr. Wizard, if moving commuters over to the HOV lane makes traffic better why don't we JUST LET PEOPLE USE THEM ALL THE TIME. Best thing we could do for traffic is just eliminate the damn HOV lanes.
I don't mind HOT lanes. They're just HOV lanes, except rich-ass single-commuters have the option to use the lane if they're running late or need to get to their destination faster. The SF Bay Area is also starting to use them. I-680 is going to finish up in a month, and CA-85 and CA-87 are supposed to have them installed by 2012.
There should be no tolls. Gary Locke said the 9 cent additional tax on gas that the voters approved was going to pay for the SR 520 bridge and the viaduct. This is B.S.

@FSXTheGreat a HOV lane like on 405 is for buses and carpools only. HOT lanes allows for single driver to use HOV lanes while paying a toll.

Using new and improved technology to milk the population. You won't see any of the politicians taking the bus....

HOT lanes decrease the mean commute time of all drivers but not the median which leads to a high standard deviation in commute times.
