The G71V isn't nearly as powerful as the Alieware m17x, however, you should look into the Asus W90Vp. It offers similar performance for a much lower price, yet has a better warranty.

Yes, the Asus G71G equipped with the 9800M GS is great for gaming. Will last a few good years before you'll need to upgrade.

As of today, the best gaming laptop is the Asus W90Vp. It's equipped with dual ATI HD4870 graphics cards, 6GB of ram, and either a 2.8 C2D or a Q9000 quad core processor. It can be upgraded to a QX9300, but that option is currently VERY expensive.
