  • @Nazieskimo -Your comment is typical for a guy who doesn't know much about turbo engines. 5 speed with huge turbo has extreme lag!!! They are terrible to drive on the street! You would loose race to a moped! If you ever had truly fast turbo car you would know it. But its ok - when I was new at the turbo thing I was thinking like you to. And am sure there are out there fast 5 speeds but it is MUCH MORE difficult to make them truly fast - NOS and stuff... Good luck on the learning curve.

  • autos hit full boost and stays there until u let off. more consistant runs and little room for diriver error. So u can lie about missing a shift when the lil auto neon spanks you! ha ha

  • there is nothing wrong with the "3 speed" transmission, notice its a 3 speed not a 4 speed o/d. closer transmission gearing dude, its just as good if not better then a 5 speed, and when you build a motor like that who wants to pay for a clutch every year and not just that a stage 2 or 3 cost an insane amount of money.

  • @SubyImprza well i know V8's are a far cry from 4 bangers but check out how many 3-speed's are used in muscle cars and drag racing with V8's (chevy TH350,TH400) (Ford C4,C6) Chevy even has the 2 speed powerglide transmission which is very common at the drag strip.

  • @SaVageNineDeeTray Obviously never saw an 8 sec dedicated race car with an Auto-Glide Tranny. Not that this neon is 8 sec I realize that. But auto is just as practical in drag and auto sports as any standard transmission.

  • @SaVageNineDeeTray Its not your typical neon with bolt-ons. With a big turbo you would lose boost when shifting. Automatics dont drop boost. Not to mention with this much power the long gears of the 3-speed auto would do wonders for grip and acceleration.

  • there are engines making 700 hp with 10 psi. it all depends on setup. my goal was to run most power on pump gas. in order to achive that the engine has to take more boost to get to the high hp levels. your motor to make that hp HAS to run c16 race gas, meth or nos! mine runs 94 octane every day - to work and from work . it's all in the set up...

  • no, all was good. what U hear is full boost hiting hard. I floored it @ 31s and @ 35s it hit max boost. then the power made the tork converter to stall higher - there was the "slippage like" sound. good ear!

  • no you can go 37psi on pump gas you just have to pull a shit tonne of timing (thus killing power)

    i would be willing to bet a good tune and 25psi that car would make 50-100more whp

  • total timing was 26deg. this is low compression engine 6.5-1. was playing around with compressions to find the best match of compr, timing, boost, size of turbo - all of that on pump 94oct. decreasing boost and adding timing did not help. was loosing 10 hp per pound and pinging. I maxed the turbo(precision 67mm) with this compression @40psi. now I'm working on higher compression - 7.5-1

    perfect would be about 8.25:1 with a holset at 22-27psi and making 400+whp

    have you ever notice that all the big guys with stupidly fast cars have auto?

    shifting=loosing time. my first two cars were 5 speed. fun on the street but when you go to big turbo then auto trani comes as a combo lol. with high stall converter when she goes on boost, there is no shifting to brake up the filling of infinite exceleration. I just love it!!!

  • I agree, once you make a lot of torque (even on a boosted 4 cyl) an auto is so much better.

    I managed to drop a full second off the 1/4 when I switch from a 5 speed to a 3 speed with RMVB. That was back when I ran 6 psi. Now on 16 psi I'm running 12s and taking out some corvettes.
