Sodium Acetate can be made by mixing sodium bicarbonate and vinegar. Not sure on the ratio. Think its 8 grams bicarb to 12 acetic acid I'm sure google will help
i can tell you this, if you did this in fifth grade, they would think you were a brainiac... unless they found out you searched online... like i did... looking for ideas...

You can avoid paying exorbitant prices for Sodium Acetate and dissolving it in water, or buying Sodium Acetate Trihydrate, which you just melt by making it yourself. All you need is Vinegar (Go for pickling vinegar if possible, more concentrated) and Baking Soda (NOT Baking POWDER!). You react baking soda slowly (So it doesn't overflow) with the vinegar until it stops bubbling. Now boil it until enough water has evaporated that it turns an amber color. Thumbs up so everyone can read this.
@MayaSoHot1 - These guys bought this, so that is a very low grade level. If you write out the reaction equation and do calculations with mols and the concentration of the vinegar to figure out how much vinegar and baking soda needs to be reacted to create a certain amount of sodium acetate (The stuff in the video), then calculate as to how much water needs to be boiled off, and you make it yourself (Teachers will know if you bought it), you can use it for Gr. 12 Chem and pull off a great mark.
@minecraftminer2012 - Dude, I make more money in a month then you make in a year, because I care about the calculations, so go blow that out your troll ass.
Hi! I need some help, i am doing this for my 8th grade science fair, and i need to know, how did you implement this into a project, did you do how the stuff reacts to certain things and at what speed, or what??? Please Respond, I REALLY NEED THE INFO FOR MY PROJECT!!!
(i ran out of space) takes only 15 minutes. One last thing, at the end of the video the person filming the video is shown and I am not sure whether this person is male or female, would the creators of this video be able to tell me the sex of this individual.
What you have there is not sodium acetate but rather sodium acetate anhydrite. Because I am not to sure about what you did at the start I do not know if you did this but when one combines sodium acetate anhydride with boiling water on the right ratio one gets sodium acetate. Further more, a faster and more efficient method of supercooling is to stick the mixture in a plastic container with an airtight lid then placing that in a larger container with water and ice. The supercooling effect then t
You can also make sodium acetate from baking soda and vinegar though. Lots of boiling is required though, and store-bought vinegar is junk because of all the sugar etc.
wer did yah learn very cool investigatory project huh?
our school also have this investigatory project,,,but this is the coolest than our investigatory project how to make an ink...and a biodiesel...sounds like huh?
what happens to the hot ice after? does it permanently remain a solid? does it break easily, becomes very hard, or just melts? i am very interested :)
@zeroa69 its and exothermic reaction and a chemical reaction which occur and the exothermic reaction makes it give off heat and the chemical reaction causes it to harden
@TYZZL26 ya i figured as much... i just didnt want to waste my time lookin it up...figred someone would give me the answer...so thanks...but it since its been chemicaly bonded together (sulfate and water) via the boiling wouldnt it exclude it from being ice? cause ice is technically water thats been brought to its freezing point and its molecules stop IE creating ice...in this situation its emiting heat and not truly frozen...? the chemicals just mearly mimick the frozen state?
