  • Ruined World from Chrono Trigger give even more lifeless atmosphere than this one

  • @djaysenpai Pretty hard to beat this one. Those frozen waves. Creepy.

  • This part of the game creeped the hell out of me

  • ;~; ghostly moments when crono, lucca and marle appears.

  • makes me think of the future world destroyed by lavos in chrono trigger

  • Oh what I could give to play through this game again, with no memory of it whatsoever....

    What a ride...

  • @RoyAndKimble dl epsxe and the iso o3o;; QwQ I had the urge to replay it, but am a million miles away from my ps1 and the game :x so thats what i did :3 hwahahwa.

  • such a beautiful haunting song

  • RIP Johnny.

  • Every time I hear this song, I imagine a frozen wasteland, filled with hopelessness and sorrow. Ice layers the surface as new new snow falls gently to this barren world, and I stand alone...... sad, yet beautiful......

  • never walk down an ally at night with this song on ur headphones it gave me the chills

  • this song couldnt be any more perfect for the setting.

  • you can say a thousand words and none of them would ever mass the intensity of this part of the game. Its horrifying but beautiful, demonic but awwing, so simple yet so complex.... it's one of the many climaxes of the game, but among all of them, this one hits home the hardest

  • Wow... hace muchos años que no escuchaba esta melodía... sigue causandome asombro y algo raro... muy buena melodía... SUPER!!!

  • I have played this game a million times. The Dead Sea STILL gives me chills.

  • You know what would have made this game better? A cast of Serge, Kid, Harle, and Guile (Magus with the original plotline they wrote) like they originally intended. Throw in Glenn too, I guess, but name him something else to avoid confusion. Ten thousand extra characters without any development did not need to be there. That was a really stupid trade-off that they're too late in admitting was a stupid trade-off.

  • @tuxedosponge:

The plot originally never had anything to do with CT and was thrown together hastily at the last minute so they could make money off of exploiting our nostalgia.

    Case in point:

Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, published by EA.

I'd highly recommend playing Chrono Trigger, then playing Crimson Echoes, then playing this game. It helps to blend the two together into an intricate and well-thought storyline instead of the mish-mash they left us with officially.

    Crimson Echoes <3

  • @jcdenton2k Not true (unless you're going for sarcasm). They plotted it out carefully, but had to cut a few things to keep their budget and timeline. There's quite a bit of information available online on the production and how they wanted to tie the games together in both idealistic and actual version. Chrono Compendium is a good source.

I've tried Crimson Echoes but gave up when the battles became exponentially more unbalanced as the game went on. If anyone puts out a save state, I'll try it.

  • @jcdenton2k In other words, they matured, dreamed big, and fell short in an almost fiasco-like fashion.

  • This game is incredible, the characters, the story, I love how everyone is entangled in this huge web of fate. Now I believe I will replay this. For the millionth time.

  • I thought the opening piano lick sounded familiar, but I had to dig around to find it: It's the motive used in the Sealed Door track from Chrono Trigger.

That music only popped up a couple of times in Chrono Trigger, but it's one of the more awesome tracks in an already awesome score.

  • I effing love this game.

I remember the first time I played this game, I borrowed it from a friend. I got stuck in the fight against Miguel. To this day, he gives me more difficulty than any other boss in the game.

It took me a few years to get past him, because by the time I got my ass handed to me by him a few times and finally beat him, I had to return the game to my friend.

Finally bought a copy for myself from another friend who wanted to sell his. Now he wants one again XD

  • i do we go from this to generic pop music and single hallway dungeons

  • It has the same sense of cathastrophy, as "Desolate World" from Chrono Trigger ost, simply breathtaking.

  • Square...what the hell happened to you guys?

  • What is the instrument I hear at 1:04-1:26? It comes right after the drum. Is it an xylophone or is it a woodwind instrument. Thanks to anyone who knows for sure.

  • The future that never existed .................deep and magical. love this song

  • 1:04 - 1:26 Dance Break!

  • This music is one of the most mesmerizing pieces of gaming music I have ever heard. It probably goes right behind People Imprisoned by Fate. It fits the scenery so perfectly - a future that never was. Yet somehow, the music gave me an eerie solace that told me to stay there forever and become a part of this doomed but tranquil paradise that got lost in time...

  • This is my favorite song on the whole soundtrack.

  • I just... can't imagine how awesome would this game be if they made a remake

with today's graphics... It'd be too damn awesome. Everyone would think it's the best game ever, or at least the best rpg ever, Im completely sure of it.

  • @Witsarunemitea lol you've got a point there, but let's just fantasize :3

  • @Tsugandate people already know this is the best RPG ever ;)

  • One of the most awesome locations in video games. This song sends chills down my spine, its creepy and gives it a mysterious feel to the dead sea.

  • 2 people got lost in the dead sea

  • I remember this one....good stuff

  • Simply beautiful, just like every other song on the game's soundtrack.

  • @Proverbs31intraining actually make that 2 lol.

  • damn this theme felt like you were never going to make it back out.

  • This was an(the) enigma of the game I wanted to know about everything this game had to offer. They REALLY left things up in the air like that

  • In fact I'm emulating many old console games currently in my PC, most were better than current ones.

  • It's all about WAR games currently...developers have completely forgotten the good old RPGs, which made my infancy much happier.

So much obsession with war stuff... no more magic.

  • @tdmasta the fable series is very good and one of the few not completely consumed by war

  • @meannoyu

    Nice to hear that...

  • @tdmasta sarcasm?

  • @meannoyu

    Nope...

  • Boo for the dislike! Chrono Cross is a a masterpiece!

  • 1 DISLIKE!? WTF?!

  • I live up in Maine, where it's almost always cloudy around fall and winter. After reaching the Dead Sea and getting, maybe TOO immersed in the game, every time I went outside to take a break and I saw the sky was totally covered in clouds, I damn near soiled my jeans. Didn't help that we live close to the ocean too...

  • This is the part of the plot when I knew that CC wasnt only a good game, but the best RPG ever!

  • This song...it symbolizes what our world will one day be like if humanity continues it's stupid ways. A cold, desolate, and lifeless world.

  • @IidoTheFox You said everything lol

  • @IidoTheFox what do you mean "if"? It's already too late.

  • @batmanpronz You can change fate. I thought Serge had already taught you that.

  • @batmanpronz i agree most people today dont even seem human theyre very vain and greedy its pretty hard to see the positive when theres zero catalyst for change

  • @IidoTheFox with our tall skyscrapers crumbling as well as being our headstones

  • @IidoTheFox

So the song is channeling The Waste Land?

  • Reason why video games lack art these days is because they re too busy making the graphics look so realistic and it takes so much time to release...if they intend to spend time on every detail on games today with the present graphics. But developers are greedy these days and need money to live life so they have to release games fast or they can end up going bankrupt ...

Something is better than nothing is their motto these days i guess.

  • damn this tune sounds JUST like that song from chrono trigger...in the future...

  • @Ryuuusa that's because it is. owo

  • Listen to this music make remembered about Atlantis the lost continent ,after they sink into the sea..

  • I love the reference to Chrono Trigger's Sealed Door, even though Uematsu composed Sealed Door, Mitsuda is truly the man

  • The only thing that would make this any better is a playlist to all the songs :P

  • Shut the hell up, Bastard! Damn these people with their 'cool' words and swears. I wish you'd all go to hell! -Sorry for the bad words, but I get really pissed of some times-

  • the most beautifully haunting song in video game history...

  • this song is like saying the winds of change as come and time has changed

  • move on and make this damnd chrono 3 ,i have enough of action and fps game, jrpgs old style rules

  • Harp, piano, clarinet, xylophone, and then violin. This song is so, so very sick.

  • Dark mist swirles around, consuming the light. In the darkness is a pulsing evil. It grows stronger every second and will soon burst forth. A shimmering sadness spirals in and dissapears under the cruel waves of death. Thunderous crashings sound emit from the evil and knock every hope of of sight. All there is to do is wait.. A figure lurks behind the mass and conducks it to its will. The dark pulses further and converts the world to a pure orb of evil. There is no hope, just run,and hide..........

  • @NewLifeLives ....... ill have what hes having

  • @NewLifeLives i skimmed one or two words. thats some gay shit.

  • How the hell did someone didn't like it!?!

  • There is just so emotion in this song. It honestly makes you think of doomsday, and the fear of being alone. The characters in the game even felt dead just looking around them. This song is just... Haunting.

  • Haha I'm young, but I like rpg's more then fps. I don't consider fall out and those games to be rpgs.... They're fps despite what people may say!!! :O Loved ff series chrono trigger and cross and also tales of series persona and much mroe o.o sorry for bad grammar didn't care about it whe nwriting this :D

  • i miss this game soo much :(

  • oh i remember now this song is from the ff with squal leonheart in it

  • this also from that ffx with the manicans and ghosts or was it this one i forgot

  • Heh, the moment it started playing I got the feeling that This... is a bad place and I am Not welcome.

  • oh wow what an amazing tune

  • someone mentioned this sounded like chrono triggers Sealed door or balthasars theme, indeedly it does, philthy track

  • 1:04 to 1:25 :D

Just passed Dead Sea . Gotta go to Eden Sea ...

  • I miss games like this.....

  • @SFXray Unfortunately game developers are more focused on quick cash ins than pieces of art such as these

  • 0:18 to 0:32 - best part

my head explodes every time I hear this

  • @CrazyMestre I dunno why.. but i laughed so hard xD... btw... That is the best part :D

  • @rinofang yeah. i dont know for sure, but it kind reminds me harry potter, or maybe a joker dancing in front of a king :P

    epic part is epic

  • My favorite song is this game,is perfect for the stage.

  • This song as eerie, dreadful, and makes you almost shiver. The scene when i saw heard this, a entire city, being destroyed and leveled but all of it frozen, at the eve of destruction. Makes you wonder right? How would a city look if a nuclear bomb hit and everything froze halfway through, man, scares me thinking about it. But this is one of my top 5 tracks that I love from this soundtrack.

  • @OmegaJoe7 I second

  • If you like this song, you'd probably like the Donnie Darko OST by Michael Andrews.

  • dam this is game is the only one i know is 100% perfect and 100% underrated

  • Chrono Cross also was a few games that included a character that could use a boomerang as a weapon .

  • This song is the perfect "What the hell" theme for the dead sea. Alright, so you've travelled around the country and it's a cute little tropical paradise. Enter the portal and nobody knows what's on the other side. What do you find? The dead sea, a massive hi-tech civilization being destroyed by an enormous tidal wave... Frozen in time at the point of impact. It was eerie walking around in there and I kept thinking "What the hell happened to this place?" for a long, long time.

  • @psychee1 word

  • @psychee1

Same thing... This and the moment with the Van Gogh painting-like place were "What the heck... !?" moments... but in a very good way (especially the Van Gogh painting... as I was sick when I played this part... I felt like I was on drugs or something... surreal moment)!

Sigh... I miss the Yasunori Mitsuda from a few years back... I played Soma Bringer recently and I hardly paid attention to his music. I was so sadden by this :(

  • @psychee1 ATLANTIS!

I think the Dead Sea represented a place that was so badly effected by Schala's electrical storm that the FATE computer was fried and it was frozen OUTSIDE of time. Therefore I think it would have the Black Omen effect like in Chrono Trigger. If you were to travel 10000 in the past of CC, the Dead Sea would be there. 10000 years in the future, it would still be there.

  • PERFECT!!

  • Holy shit, I forgot how amazing this song was. Like, fuck. Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo Uematsu are the greatest musicians/artists that have ever walked the earth.

  • I don't know why but this song makes me cry, makes me feel sad and unsettled or confused i don't know... I think in post apocalyptical scenes. btw a masterpiece

  • @wjofre1 i agree.. there is something about this song that, if thought about deeply, could make a grown man cry

  • This piece is awesome...but I wish the clarinet didn't sound so synthesized!!!!

  • This is when you meet the ghosts of Crono....Marle....and Lucca, isn't it? ;.;

  • @Barbe Um... spoilers. I've played it through, but some people haven't.

  • 死海思い出す!!

    何か物悲しいBGMだから攻略しながら悲壮感感じながらプレイしてたわ

  • Sort of reminds me of FF 8's world map theme. Not by the actual music but the atmosphere it sets.

  • This sounds just like the start of the Balthazar's Theme in the original CT. You know, when you get the Epoch in 1999 AD?

  • Right!! It is clear that they have simply built upon it.

  • i remember when i first heard this, i spent time doin what i had to do to compare the two, it is what u think it is!

  • @Largueirus 2300 AD broseph smith

  • My favorite area of the game

  • sounds like a radiohead song.

  • Damn. Imagine the feeling you got when you first got to the Dead Sea. Alone... Lost... Confused.... This track fits so damn well. It's like all those emotions presented in musical format. GENIUS!!!

  • Well, "Devourer of Time" seems like a closure to me. Expanding it would just ruin the game. Serge and Kid get married, guys from trigger are already gone, lets leave it at that.

  • Well there is always the potential for more as long as time and dimensional travel exist. In fact that seems to be why the original Chrono crew are gone.

  • but who'd be the enemy? Lavos? he's dead, so is fate and lynx, maybe in a paralell universe, new heroes, new bad guys new everything? maybe.

  • That's a good question, there seems to be something big going on the main continent during the events of Cross so that is a decent spot. Also we know next to nothing about Lavos, there could be more of them out there, so that's always a possibility. Though I think a Chrono game needs a bit of Lavos in there somewhere.

  • The original Lavos was making Lavos Spawn, so that means... it itself must have come from somewhere.

  • Unless Lavos is the only one of it's species, which may be the case. I would really enjoy knowing more about Lavos if they ever make another chrono game. Or if they remade Cross. On another note there is that whole Assassin of Time angel that was being built up with Serge that ended up not going anywhere.

  • Maybe a new game would be about the rise of Porre and the fall of Guardia kingdom! and they must answer to this: what happened to Crono, Marle and Lucca before the Cross events?

  • maybe Serge would be the new enemy O_o

  • shrines.rpgclassics(dot) com/psx/cc/story(dot) shtml

scroll down, read, understand, and then reply.

  • This is a really good song.

  • I'll tell you one thing ... however the Chrono series finally closes, it's going be one of the most fondly remembered stories in gaming history.

  • one of my favorite parts in the game

  • sounds kinda like door song from Chrono Trigger. can't remeber the name tough.

  • its called sealed door btw haha

  • This part of the game was truely amazing to me. The broken Highway, the Flooded City and the Shopping Mall building was just amazing.

  • i couldnt agree more

what i would give for a game as amasing as chrono cross is..

    hmm..

im sure they will make another

  • Yeah, that Chrono Break or whatever is what called. You know at the end of the game where you see that message that says, "I'll find you. Even if I have to search the world over. I'm sure of it."? I'm pretty sure that's Magus from Chrono Trigger searching for Schala, or her clone at least. In Lucca's letter to Kid, it even says that Magus would be searching for her, so that's why there should be another game.

  • The one who says the "I'll find you" line is supossed to be Schala. She is looking for Serge.

  • Two things. First of all, Schala speaks Australian now and the message subtitles was normal English. Second of all, if you are right, then you just kind of ruined it for me. Magus is still searching for Schala you know.

  • Kid speaks with Australian accent, but Schala (As in the real, ORIGINAL Schala) has a neutral accent. The letter in the end of the game was written by Schala, and it says she will look for Serge, no matter the timeline, and that she will find him someday.

The game implies that they got separated after the ending, and that Schala (Now merged with Kid) is looking for Serge (Or a reincarnation of Serge, since Schala is seen in the future wandering around.

  • I guess...

Man, you totally ruined it, I thought Magus said that...

Oh well, I heard rumors for another game coming out

  • Sorry, but just recently a Square-Enix rep said that they were pretty dissapointed with Chrono Trigger DS's sales, so that may kill the possibilities for a new game somewhat.

I'm also a big Chrono fan, and of course I would like to see a new game in the series (Set in the future? That would be freakin' awesome). But Square-Enix seems to have no interest on reviving the series. Have you checked the AMAZING fan project that Square-Enix shut down recently? It was called "Crimsom Echoes".

  • Comment removed

  • You're kidding me, right?

    I mean.

Chrono Trigger was a great success on its own WITHOUT the rehashing. If Square-Enix didn't focus so much on the rehashing, they might've seen Chrono Trigger ON ITS OWN from the SNES was great enough to have another go at it- Chrono Cross seems like it could do wonderfully on its own without trying to be a sequel. And if it were called anything else, I would've loved CC just as much.

  • As much as I would love Chrono Break to come to fruition, I am strongly against SquareEnix touching it. I love Squaresoft, but HATEHATEHATE SquareEnix.

  • While I don't "hate" Square-Enix, I agree in that the quality of their titles is far inferior to previous Squaresoft games.

Besides, wasn't the "Chrono team" bought by Nintendo? (Monolith Software). They are the same people who developed Xenogears and Xenosaga.

  • Good Good let hate flow through u ;D

  • kids today are more focused on the HALO's and GEARS OF WARS of the world to spend money on classic JRPGs...Chrono 3 should have come out before 2005 cuz now people just dont care for those types of games anymore....its really really sad cuz we all want closure on Schala / Magus....there's so much room to expand that story.

Magus and Schala pretty much carry both Chrono games on their backs, as far as story goes...and I just want some CLOSURE DAMNIT

  • Dude, you have nooo idea how much I've been thinking about how this story could close. I want an ending! Something proper, instead of pure ambiguity!

It's such a great story too! Or, both Chrono Trigger and Cross have great stories. And Magus is my favourite character, so...

  • believe me my friend, you are not the only one T.T

  • Comment removed

  • @Toinye I 100% agree with you here

  • @Toinye well actually im a pretty hardcore halo and gears of wars fan and i have to agree with you with everyone today not even paying attention to all of these epicly classic games. But i do have to say that chrono cross is the best game i have ever played in my life. completley dominates halo + gears of war + god of war all put together ;D

  • @Toinye Video games are strictly a business nowadays. Artistic beauty in video games is less common than ever before. What a shame and waste of talent.

  • @Toinye Old school gamers like us cannot understand the new ways of gamers.. They preffer to say "I will kill you mutha fukar" while we, gentlemens, preffer to says "I will knock you out" [FFI Garland's reference].

  • @Toinye Don't stereotype my generation.

  • @IPITYTHEFOOLZ It's true for most people though there are excepts though as you say.

  • @IPITYTHEFOOLZ Hun, the newer generaltion like only what is fed to them and there are two ways that happens: internet and television. Whatever is advertised and they see, they will want. it will appeal to them. Then they become so accustomed to this new, rapid paced gameplay and being told the story auditorily that going back to the RPG roots where you have to read and take things slow is poposterous to them. It's not exactly stereotyping because this is the way or the newer generation.

  • @Toinye I care about games like this, even though i've beat Halo 1, 2, 3, and Gears of War 2. But most people in my age group do just care Halo, CoD, Gears...

  • @Toinye Some point, I agree with you. But, Halo and Gears of War are not bad game, if is that what you mean. Actually, they are great games, with great history. But the you feel the emotion in a diferent way, in another perspective.

  • The picture at the end of the game is suppposed to be Schala and Serge together. It's all so convoluted... First time I saw it I wanted to believe it was Magus :'(

  • ooohhhhoo love the way this one sounds

  • Yeah, this music plays at the part where you see the destruction of a future that no longer exists frozen in time.

  • ooohhhoo sounds frightening ........messed up

  • It's totally bitching!

  • hell yea

  • awesome!!!
