@PAC0TAC0 well the block left alomst untouched since probably 1987... so i don't see anything "gm" about it. yes, gm used this same engine in opel/vauxahal etc.
saab used gm's crap like 2.2,1.9 tid and 2.8 petrol. maybe i've forgotten something...
@qazeder no its actually a gm based motor its not one of the older saab motors its based of the lsj used in the cobalts and its a varyant of that called the lk9. the motor in that car is actually a gm motor.
Ya they modified the car, they took out the ac compressor and heating unit. That's why there's so much space on the right side of the hood. Only problem is since the turbo on the 9-3 is front-mount, there's nothing to put over there without reseating the engine, which would change the weight distribution. Plus, at least on the auto, the transmission is located on the driver's (left) side, so it would be hard to seat a vertical-mounted 4 directly above it without sitting too high.
My dad had the opportunity to test drive that car, he is seen 2:40 in blue jacket (wow he has become a you tube star... xD ), and he says the car feels a bit week.
(It could be possible that I'm wrong about my dad's test drive, sorry if I am)
With ll due respect, the M3 is not an equivalent model to the 93 SS. The SS is in factory trim is a mild sport sedan. An M3 is aimed for more performance. Now compare the "3" series, not the M3, and your getting a lot closer. I don't know what mods you have done to the suspension, but with just a few things it will handle as if on rails. Good luck!
The suspension is stock at the moment, as is most of the car. The only changes I've made are a BSR stage 3, 3" turbo-back Magnaflow 14816, EBC ceramic pads & EBC grooved/dimpled discs & QuickShift Taipan II CAI. It desperately needs a new clutch as the stock can't cope with 420Nm of torque. It's incredibly difficult to get a paddle racing clutch for the 5spd though.
I'm working towards a Maptun S6, so I'll probably get a SPEC 4 paddle.
to bad for the bmws now because saab has xwd traction now (saabs special all wheel drive) that gives the car full traction at all times togeter with LSD. THis makes it even better in the curves then the germans!!!
LOL - You've fallen for the SAAB sales blurb! It's not an LSD, it's an eLSD (electronic... ie fake).
When driven normally, the XWD is 90% FWD / 10% RWD. When the XWD system detects a lack of grip at the front end... it shoves 10% more power to the rear. It's an absolutely hopeless electronic replacement for good, honest engineering. It's just a revised version of the Fiat Panda's 4x4 system (google "haldex")
Also,XWD's drivetrain loss means it needs 20% more power to be as quick as FWD
i know exactly what the XWD is, but saab now also uses LSD : it is used in the saab turbo x , a car i own and know very well that it handles like heaven in the curves, besides kickdowns which shoot u right into the sky!!!!!
Visionit2007 is quite right about it.. the LSD you were talking about it's actually stands for eLSD electronically controlled rear limited-slip differential which it transform the torque into the rear wheels. it is very usefull when you are driving in the snow or mountain where has alot of corners, but in the straight line.. it's completely useless.. apparently saab is not for drag racing
Lots of ppl dont realize how fast Saabs really are.

I have a 9-3SS with a BSR stage 3 kit and sure, it's powerful... but it's no BMW.
It's quicker than an M3 in a straight line, but show it a corner or a wet road and the M3 is a far superior car.
